All the little things add up, Myself I'd buy a cheap whip, then build myself something fast and cheap, like some early 30s big block powered hot rod.

The only car from the 1980s I like is the 1987 Buick GNX. Wheel stand, from the factory. And it looks damn nice. But good luck finding one, let alone affording it. Is that like a Buick Regal some kinda special. If it is, then yeah it does look nice. Yeah, the GNX was only made in 1987. It was the Buick Regal Grand National Turbo with some other modifications. Some aesthetic differences, a better turbo sytem, and highly improved suspension. Took the Regal Grand National from body-roll-galore to tight cornering-capable.

MOEs All the little things add up, Myself I'd buy a cheap whip, then build myself something fast and cheap, like some early 30s big block powered hot rod. Hah, yeah, that's kind of what I've been looking into doing. I have a 1977 Ford LTD with a 400 cubic inch in it. Rebuilt the engine and it can sure haul a** now, even in that three ton tank of a car. I am really interested in dropping it into something small, either making a '30s rat rod roadster or putting it in either a mustang II or one of the foxbodies.

Restoring or hot rodding some classic is likely to cost even more than adding stuff to my current car. I don't make near enough money to even live on my own let alone hot rod a classic car. Or even afford the gas for one of those.

Truinthil Restoring or hot rodding some classic is likely to cost even more than adding stuff to my current car. I don't make near enough money to even live on my own let alone hot rod a classic car. Or even afford the gas for one of those. I've known guys to build for under 1k Mageiltackhead myself I woulden't use the 400, it's limited on tuning I'd use a pontiac 440 or a caddy 500.

I've known guys to build for under 1k Mageiltackhead myself I woulden't use the 400, it's limited on tuning I'd use a pontiac 440 or a caddy 500. Personally I would want a Ford 460, I've found plenty of parts on it I could easily get it up to a 576CID pushing well over 1500 horsepower and similar torque numbers. The only reason I would use my 400 is because it's what I already have, and if you look around just a little bit you find that there really are tons of options, even for it. With how I have that engine operating now it would be well more than sufficient in a compact car.

Okay...I'm loving the input on the engines, but one problem. My Toyota Tercel is a very very compact car. Not sure I could get those engines in, unless they are smaller than what I'm thinking...
What I actually have in mind is perhaps sticking a Toyota Celica engine or as my friend has mentioned maybe a Mitsubishi Galant engine into my little Tercel.

Or you could go for a 300 straight six, there are a lot of options becoming available for that engine I just learned last night while my insomnia was kicking in. The best bet for a Tercel (if you are intent on keeping it) would probably be a Celica engine because it should be able to bolt right in, if I'm not mistaken, and that 2.2 has some good potential. Now, I'm not positive, but you may be able to fit a Supra engine in there, which would definitely be your best option for performance, if it's an option. The 2.8 and 3.0 are amazing little engines for cars of that size.

Well maybe you could see how much you'd get for your car and look to see what other cars you could afford, I've done this with all my cars and bikes. I'm not exactally the richest kid being working class and a student.

Problem with that is the fact that Supras are rear wheel driven while a Tercel is front wheel. So that rules out the Supra engine. As for selling my car and seeing what I could get in it's place? hah hah. I bought the car for 1700. It's not gonna get me much more than that unless I put a good deal of work into it and ask for more than I spent buying the car and upgrading it. Nah. I don't want anything super fancy really. For the most part I wont alter the appearance of my car, just the innards to get a bit more performance out of it. So in essence a sleeper, though it wont be capable of any fabulous speeds. Just so long as I can crank out a little bit extra ^_^ A celica engine should do nice. Now...Where to get my hands on one...
