I recently heard about Martin Short's new "one-man show" which I put in quotations because it's got a full musical score (composed by Marc Shaiman, oooo) and..... lots of other people in it. Plus audience participation in a segment with Jiminy Glick. From what little bit I've heard, it's supposed to be a spoof about people who turn their tragic, tragic emo lives into one man shows. Ahh, I <3 Martin Short
My dad and I used to watch his TV show, and we got to meet him when he performed with the Phoenix Symphony (my dad plays the piano with them)
The only comp tickets were in the first row, so we were a bit pissed because you have to bend your head back to see well, but he ended up jumping off the stage practically on top of us a bunch of times and then stole my program once (he gave it back, of course)
And my dad did was kinda included in a few of his little shticks during the concert, since he's the piano player and pianos always seem to be inherently funny
And then we got to go backstage and meet him, which was cool
Anyway, I really want to see it, and it should be good
I watched a few clips on the website for it

That's so amazing! The only celebrity connections I have are in country/nashville pop music....and I'm sort of ashamed of those! xd
First row's better than last row balcony, though. It's inevitable you get stuck behind some inconsiderate tall person wearing a hat.
I love Martin Short's energy. He reminds me a lot of a younger Mandy Patinkin, only about THIS MUCH MORE ADHD. Not sure why. They strike me as similar.

I <3 Mandy Patinkin
'Specially in The Princess Bride
Butyeah, Martin Short is like... ten cups of coffee and an energy drink
xD
I also am connected through friends to Anthony Rapp, although I'm not sure if the friend is still in contact with him
Jeremy, a family friend who's in the business, once had acting coaching from Anthony Rapp when he did his own production of Rent (he was Mark)
So when I found out I was like *SQUEEFEST*
I don't have any other connections, though : P

Squeefest indeed! Anthony Rapp is one of my gay crushes!
I actually take it back, I have more connections than I thought I had, but very few in theatre.... Stan Bahorek and David Ayers both went to my high school, but I doubt they'd recognize me if they saw me. So, yeah. Not really connections, but nice people to be aquainted to. xp

Um... who are they? I'm not really familiar with non-theater celebrity people...

They're sorta minor Broadway stars, if that. Stan Bahorek's been touring with the Deaf West production of Big River as the voice of Tom Sawyer for....I dunno how many years. He just quit that, now I'm not sure what he's doing. David Ayers primiered Fyedka in the Fiddler on the Roof revival and played Fiyero opposite Shoshana Bean for a while. Last I heard of him though, he was back in Columbus, Ohio for surgery on his shoulder (too many dashing entrances, I guess) and was engaged to some girl whose name I can't remember, but she was in Cinderella, and rocked at ballet, I remember that much.

I saw this on Friday night and let me tell you:
Very, VERY funny.
But probably only if you happen to like Martin Short's brand of humor. It's got some dirty bits and "full frontal nudity" (not really, but that bit's sort of hard to explain).
I'll go into details later, I'm too tired right now. x_x
