If you haven't seen already, Gaia is letting us give our input on the current page design/layout, and they want feedback! The survey they point to isn't working for me, but I checked out the feedback thread and was going to answer and put comments, but you know more about it than I do due to your profession, and you can better explain the part about how there's too much white and your eyes need something to rest on or they'll get eye-strain. LOL!!
I saw that, actually and was giving them a few minutes to sort out whatever survey they are trying to point to... haven't been to the thread yet, but you'll be sure I'll visit!! Thank you for pointing this out to me!!
So.... does anyone else have any observations about the redesign that they'd like me to include in whatever post I compose??

I want the threads I've posted in to change color again so I know where I've been. Everything staying the same color is just so annoying.

I'd forgotten they'd changed that. Yeah, it would be great if they'd fix that. I personally would like different little icon images next to the text links at the top so that when Jade's trying to find her way to games and towns, I can tell her "click the dice!" or "click the world!" or something besides trying to get her to remember what the letter G looks like when I say "the one in the middle! The G! The G!!!"

I'll mention it, but I doubt they'll go for it, given their intended audience and the current navigation... it will make much of their nifty little button system obsolete, which will really tick off whichever designer came up with them wink . ::rubs hands together:: Although it won't help somebody who can't read yet, how about mouseover highlights on the submenus? And yes, the link color change thing is a BIG one they need to address (& *extremely* easy to "fix" since it *should* be a matter of swapping one group of hex code numbers out for another in the CSS definition file)... Other remaining sore spots with this design?? ::blows dust off the 'geek' and 'designer' mental dictionaries::

I want "themes" or "skins".
That way, I can choose what color site I want to hang around on.
I really think they may already have that in mind... or maybe it is just wishful thinking scream

Oh!
I have one BIG problem with Gaia since the new look.
When I get to the last bit that shoud be the end of the page,
(© Copyright 2006 Gaia Interactive. All Rights Reserved.)
I can still "Page Down" SIX PAGES.
So... if I use the "end" key to go to the bottom of the page, I have to "Page Up" SIX PAGES to see the last post.
I REALLY miss being able to go straight to the last post from the thread title.

now i have noticed about the visited links that inside of a thread they change color...but that doesnt help those of us who are looking for like polls that we havent been to yet...that is a main thing with me...if they do it for the inside..why not the outside confused
skins would be so awesome...anything to take some of this white away gonk

fyi: I've not forgotten about posting my/our various rants to the thread, but I've been so busy/distracted with kids (who are unusually cranky today & yesterday) and general lack of sleep, I've not had a chance to attempt composing what is likely to be a rather long, involved post. And, if I'm going to go through that effort, I feel like I need Gaia staff to take me seriously as a professional, so it needs to be coherent... instead of being just another babbling post like this is turning out to be!! sweatdrop
Perhaps if I can sit the kids down to lunch/movie... providing they'll stop fighting and aggravating each other for more than 2 minutes at a time... 3nodding
... just wanted to let you all know what was going on.

you could post your finished rant here before you send it off,
and if most Purkles agree with all the points,
it could be signed "Purkle Couch Guild"
If not.. maybe we could put one together to send from the couch?
Any one think it would be more "powerful" coming from the guild as opposed to individuals?

sweatdrop OK! I'm trying to compile my notes and the comments some of you have made into something vaguely coherent to put on that design feedback thread, but... wasn't there a thread here concerning the new design?? If so, I can't find it. Anybody?
I will post the rough draft here for any final suggesions/tweaks before posting it on the thread. It may actually mean a bit more to Gaia coming from an adult guild, at least one member of whom has worked in the design/development/usability field... it certainly can't hurt to post it that way. smile BTW- if anybody else has a "resume" of related experience in the technology field, please let me know - we can add it to the list of "specialties represented by the guild" kind of thing...
BIG Kudos to Gaia for even entertaining the thoughts and feedback of their customers (a very good thing!! yay!!), but I admit to not liking "working for free" for them ... ya know? Anyway.... off to write...

Poppetta i HATE HATE HATE the fact that they've taken my purple eyes away, Cupcake's previously golden eyes are now dull brown too crying horrible, nasty Gaia scream and yes, I agree completely! It seems the eye colors have all been muted or completely redone. I miss the gold eyes too!
