I'm doing my highschool thesis on evangelion. My thesis statement is that the three pilots represent the superego, ego, and id of Freudian psychology, but I'm having a hard time finding examples. Please help!

Well... I dunno, we only briefly talked about this stuff in English... so you know waaaay more than I do... but Rei might be like a superego, kinda being helpful to everyone else and ignoring her own needs (not really remembering all the stuff that happened and having not finished reading/watching the series, doens't help me much either sweatdrop ) Yeah... I can't really think of anything, but good luck on the paper... it sounds really hard....

I would suggest focusing on the psycho-dynamics of life rather than Freud's three personality components. If you look at the psycho-dynamics (I don't remember them exactly but I think it was like freedom, death, something like that) they are portrayed very obviously throughout the show.
If you want to focus on the id, the ego, and the super-ego, there is many ways to look at it. All three of the main characters display the traits of the three components. Asuka is definitely the most compulsive and can easily be viewed as the id, the base instincts of a person. She is most definitely the energy of the group.
Rei is the superego of the group. Outside the hustle and bustle and passing on judgement to Shinji who would be the ego. Shinji as the ego must make the decisions and take the whole responsibility of the group. This is just one way of looking at it, and there are countless others, this is just what I could throw together without my old notes ^.^() Anyway, look for information on the four psychodynamics of life I think. Without my old notes I couldn't give oyu any further information on them, but it almost seemed as if Evangelion was completely focused around these four ideals. Anyway, good luck on your paper ^^

Frued? Wouldn't a prime example be Shinji's interest in Rei? The whole mother complex...
I'm sure there's heaps, i'm sorry i don't have the time to be of any help.
Good luck though!
