The Approval and Critique Thread
This thread is here for the GMs to help you better develop your character and give you ideas on what you need to do to make your character into a well-rounded, believeable character. We understand that most people don't want to make a boring character, but you aren't blockaded from making a unique character so long as they are somewhat grounded in reality. As mentioned in the 'Tips for Building a Solid Character' post in the readme thread, try not to be too anachronistic or ridiculous.
The island has a lot of unique characters, from a petulant horse breeder to a plucky Southern boy whose father was a medic in the American Civil War. There are all kinds of circumstances and reasons why your character is the way they are, why they chose to go to the island. They could have a criminal record of petty theft or be a dropout from the local medical school. They could have arrived under false pretenses such as a woman posing as a man, or they could have been shipwrecked and pulled off of a hunk of driftwood by Moreau's men on the way to the island.
Above all, these are normal people. They have strengths and weaknesses, personality flaws, and sometimes fairly lackluster or unimpressive lives. Rich folk and great, highly skilled scientists are likely not going to be drawn to Moreau's work, as the latter see Moreau as a source of ridicule and the former generally don't care for scientific endeavors. We do not want stereotypical "badass" characters wearing trench coats and covered in scars who carry a katana or characters that would be better suited for an anime. We do not want a rogue 21 year old samurai named Akira Yoshitakahara who can speak six different languages and has two enchanted blades. We do not want some European guy who can randomly speak Japanese and knows martial arts since access to Japan was limited to the Western world in that time period.
Before anybody can come to the island, they must be approved by the GMs. Gaining approval is fairly easy if you listen to what we have to say. This thread will help people get their ducks in a row, as it were, when it comes to building their character and making them more island-ready. The GMs are here to work with you and compromise as much as possible to put you on the road to making your character a reality.
This thread here is for questors to submit their character applications for approval and critique. That way, you will know if your character is island ready or not, and will be worked with individually to recieve advice and a nudge in the right direction. This will also save you the trouble of spending a lot of time during a flatsale event trying to figure out your character profile, thus giving you more time to respond to the second written prompt.
Staff will be giving you HONEST critiques. Chances are we will comment on everything, from appearance to personality to background. We will tell you what we like and dislike, what needs to be changed as opposed to what we'd like to see changed. We are going to try to be unbiased and not leave comments like "This is the best character ever." These critiques are not and never will be attacks on your character, as they are meant to be constructive and we are only trying to help.
