As told by Corli
Wandering around
7.28.2006

I miss the snow. That's the first thing that I think each morning when I wake up. How it sparkles in the sun, and the way you can make it into a ball and throw it at Vati. That's always fun too. And the color, all white. Better than yellow sand, but that's pretty cool sometimes. You just can't throw it.

I shouldn't bring the snow back, though. That's what Jayde told me. At least, not until Christmastime. Theres stuff that goes on around here that people can't do in the snow. I guess I understand...if you always lived on an island, you don't know that snow is much cooler than sand. Oh, well.

Dissapointed, but still too energetic to sleep any longer, I tossed the thin sheet off the bed and ran out of my room and into vati's room, just across the curtain.

"Vati, vati!" I called, climing into bed so I could shake his shoulders. "What are we doing today, vati?" I giggled a little as he rumbled in his sleep--he still sounded like a big cat sometimes, though he yells if I say so.

"What?" he said groggily.

"The sun is out," I said, a little impatiently. "You said I could do something today."

"Sure you can do something," he said, opening one eye at me like he usually does. "You can do whatever you want to. I am going to go back to sleep." The one eye closed; I knew when not to bother him any more.

I hadn't quite reached that point, yet.

"But vati," I whined, shaking his shoulders again. Funny how big his shoulders looked next to my hands! "It's so much more fun if you come!" The eye opened again and it leveled at me.

"It'll still be fun for me to do something when it's a decent hour of the day." I sighed, watching him roll over. That really was the sign that he was done. Now what was I gonna do? Sighing again, I fluttered my way back out of his room.

"And put some clothes on!" I heard bellowed from behind me.

Put some clothes on, Corli. It's too early to play, Corli. You can't bring back the snow, Corli. Do this, don't do that, wait for later for something else. Wasn't there anything I could do now?

A little dejectedly, I wandered through the house and then out of it, over the bridge to the girls' house. No doubt they would all be sleeping, still, too. Even Sabrina was asleep, and she at least didn't mind going wherever I wanted, though sometimes she tells me it isn't a good idea.

Just as I thought, everyone was asleep. Jayde was asleep, too, even though she was usually up as early as I was. This was so silly! I was the only one awake! Huffing a little, I finished climbing the stairs to the roof of the house to see if Dav was awake.

Before I got to the top, I could feel his rumbling snores in my feet. Not him, too! Frustrated, I fluttered back down the stairs, through the bedrooms, and to the bottom floor where Freya and Akhor were sleeping.

Now, this wasn't so bad. If Freya was sleeping, that meant I could go explore the woods. If Sabrina was sleeping, that meant I could go farther into the woods.

Maybe this wasn't so bad, after all!

No longer wanting everyone to wake, I silently exited the house into the morning sunshine. The last of the snow had finally melting, leaving the sand and its faint golden gleam. Well, I was off to the forest today; I wouldn't have to worry about the sand!

As fast as my little wings could carry me, I flew into the woods, ducking and weaving through the low hanging branches and vines. The earthy smell of it surrounded me, and the think leaves of the canopy blocked the harsh rays of sun from my pale skin. This was the great!

I think...

As told by Corli
Lost in the woods
a little later that day

I'd been wandering around the woods for some time when I finally plopped down in the dirt, exhausted. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea, after all. I didn't know where I was, and I was hungry, and tired of being out here in the woods. I wanted to go home.

Demons don't cry, I told myself firmly when I felt the aching in my throat and my eyes begin to water. It's silly. Ashamed of myself, I stood and ran down what could almost be what looked sorta like a path to try and leave my doubts and fears far behind me. I wouldn't cry, I wouldn't. Miss Aiko had called me Taiyoukai, and that didn't sound like something that would cry to me.

I ran and ran, I don't know for how long, but finally I stopped, feeling a little better if just as lost. But...what was that sound?

Looking all around me, I finally decided that the sound was running water. A cool drink of water sure sounded good right about then--even with the sun blocked out by the thick leaves, it was still real hot, wherever you went on the island.

Following my ears to a little brook, I flopped down on my knees beside it, scooping up just a little with my hands. Not so salty, I thought. It must come from the lagoon, and make a little pond somewhere. Here, though, it was just a little trickling brook, making happy gurgling sounds at me.

As I drak from the fresh water, something sparkly caught my eye. Sparkly like...snow. It was at the bottom of the stream, halfway hidden in the mud, but it was soooo pretty...

Carefully, I leaned a little farther out over the water to get a better look. It was a rock. More specifically, it was a perfectly round, white rock, that sparkled in what little sunlight managed to filter down to it. Just a little farther and I might be able to reach it...

I let out a small, EEP! as I tumbled into the water. It was refreshing, but I'd stirred up all of the stuff that was in it still, and I'd lost sight of the sparkly white rock! Frantically, I took a deep breath and plunged further into its cool depths in an attempt to locate my treasure.

The mud that I'd stirred up got in my eyes and burned them a little, but not nearly as much as my lungs burned from lack of air. I had to find it, though. A fait sparkle caught my eye, and I lunged for it before rising back to the surface, gasping for breath.

Success! I didn't know quite what it was, but I had it!

I stood, still waist deep in water, examining my treasure. It was perfectly round in shape, and such a soft white. I'd been mistaken, though--it didn't sparkle exactly like snow, but it was still pretty. Not a dull gold like sand, or the diamond-like sparkle of snow, but a simple gleam that was...what was the word Jayde liked to use? Elegant. Simple, yet beautiful. My treasure.

{Yeah, still continued.}

As told by Lyra, aka "Vati"
trying to sleep
a freaking reasonable hour, later that day.

"Have you seen Corli?" The small voice whispering in my ear managed to wake me. Did no one in this house need any sleep? I wondered idly. Of course, I knew the answer--not the ones that wanted to talk to me.

"No, Sabrina," I muttered, rolling over.

"He's not at the house." Her voice was a little worried, though that was nothing really new. It was always like that if Corli wasn't beside her or within seeing range.

"He's probably out playing in the water," I muttered again. Why wouldn't she just go away? I was sure that nothing was the matter, as was usually the case with the slightly jittery, worry wort of a creature.

"He's not by the water, either." I knew that any other person/pet at the treehouse would have jumped on me by now, but Sabrina was far too shy for that. However, the fact that she hadn't gone away yet concerned me. First of all, I knew that it was unlikely that I would get back to sleep. Second, there might actually be something wrong. With some difficulty, I sat up and glared at her through sleep fogged eyes.

"Alright," I finally sighed, "when did you last see him?"

"I haven't seen him today," she replied, somewhat shakily. "He left before I woke." That would mean he'd probably left right after he'd asked me to 'do something' with him. Dammit! Flinging the sheets aside in a motion not unlike Corli's, I grabbed a pair of pants and dashed out the...curtain. I still was getting used to the fact that the 'woman of the household' apparently didn't believe in doors. Sabrina, wide eyed, followed me.

Rushing down the stairs and across the freaking rope bridge that she absolutely insisted that we have, instead of a normal, sturdy, wooden bridge, I burst into the downstairs room of the girls' house.

"Don't you know how to knock?" she asked primly, sipping tea at the table.

"How, exactly, am I supposed to knock on a curtain?" I asked her with a glare. "And I don't have time for your games right now. Corli's gone."

"Again?"

"Again." The mention that one of her babies was missing must have roused the sleeping kal'daka, for Freya opened her eyes and turned them magesticall on me. Eh, nothing new--magestically was the way she did everything.

"When was the last time he was seen?" she asked me in that calm, aloof voice.

"Early this morning."

"Then he could be anywhere!" The panic was from Jayde, of course. The rest of us realized that the island, even all of the islads put together, weren't very big. With Dav looking...

"Hwhat iss thhe problemm?" said the great, hulking brute from the doorway. For a long time now, he'd been too big to fit in the house, but that didn't stop him from peeking his head in every now and again.

"Corli's missing," we all said at the same time. He nodded; this really wasnt' anything new."

"Whhee shall go hllooking for him." He must have just woken up, with that slur in his speech. He didn't usually do it, but I imagined it was incredibly difficult speaking when you didn't have lips per se, and a tonge that was meant for properly making words.

I sat for a breif moment as they argued over what they were going to do about this mess before finally speaking again.

"You can sit and argue," I snapped, "but I'm just going to go look. If I find him, I'll let the dragon know and he can tell everyone else."

"oooh, he can make a fire signal in the sky, like you see in the movies!" I rolled my eyes at Jayde, not needing to turn back around and look to see the stars in her eyes.

"Whatever," I muttered, brushing the front...curtain...aside and stepping out on the front deck. With a little concentration, my wings emerged from the tattoos on my back and I was off.

{Keep going--its not likely to be too much longer.}

As told by Lyra
Flying around like an idiot
afternoon, that day.

The sun was high in the sky by this point, and I could just tell that my back was going to be doing its impersonation of a lobster tomorrow. This was just great. Dragged outta bed to go look for the missing demon...

Part of me wanted to say that he was, in fact, a demon and could probably take care of himself. But the rest of me told that part to shut up, because while he was a full demon, he was also a little boy who had probably been lost in the woods for several hours now. I cursed again at my carelessness.

He probably wouldn't have gotten of Lunis Isle, I thought, trying to think of something useful rather than just be generally irritated. And my wings are much bigger than his, so I've probably caught up with him by now. I looked and looked, but I still couldn't see anything.

Of course you can't see anything, genious, He's three feet tall and you're looking from higher than the tops of the tallest trees! I sighed heavily, realizing that I had a point. I would worry about the fact that I was talking to myself when I got back to the treehouse.

Not too far from where I was, I saw a little break in the trees that I hadn't seen before. It wans't very wide, but if I looked closely, I could see a small brook trickling through. That would probably be as good a place as any to fly through and look for Corli. I just hoped the gap was wide enough for my wings so I wouldn't have to get down and walk.

Wait, was that...? Flying in a little closer, I could see a patch of blue that wasn't the brook but Corli's thatch of teal hair. Luck, at last! For whatever reason, he looked up past the trees and into the sky, seeing my great blak wings against the sunlight. Smiling almost as bright, he waved frantically, one arm still by his stomach. Was he hurt?

The fear that notion evoked sent me flying down faster than I probably should have, so I stumbled just a little when I finally did land. Streightening, I sent Corli the look that said we would both pretend that didn't happen.

"Vati, vati!" he still hadn't moved his arm, but he rushed up and plowed into my midsection, something round and hard pushing up against my stomach.

"I'm so glad you're here I didn't mean to go that far into the woods but I can fly so fast now you should really see! and I found the stream and found a sparklie that looked like snow but wasn't snow and I fell in the brook and mud got all churned up and I found it and I'm a Taiyoukai!" All I could do was blink as the wave of chatter rushed over me and generally over my head.

"That's nice," I managed. Apparently, that was a good answer for he smiled again.

"Look!" Whatever he'd been babbling about must be in his hand--guess that's why he wasn't moving his arm. Babbling a little more, he showed me what had to be the biggest pearl in the history of the world. Holding it out like that instead of tucked close to him, it practically took both of his hands to hold it. But I had other things to worry about than how he found a pearl of the likes I'd never seen.

"That's nice," I repeated. "Very pretty. C'mon, Jayde wants to have a chat with you." He looked a little crestfallen at that; it seemed he knew that this "chat" was going to be about.

"We're going home?" the small tremor in his voice told me that, dispite his enthusiasm at his pearl, he really had been lost in the woods, wanting to go home even if it meant a little "chat."

"Yeah," I said, scooping him up in my arms, "We're going home."

So with that, Corli, me, and the pearl went back to the house. Dav shot up his huge ball of fire, and Jayde got to see her cenematic fire signal. Disaster averted.

{Took a while to introduce her, but there ya have it.}

As told by Jayde
At home
8.18.2006

I found him on the couch downstairs, much to my surprise. He usually was out and about, but instead he was settled inside quite nicely, with Sabrina sleeping at his feet.

"Whacha doing?" I asked him, peering over his shoulder. He started a little--obviously he hadn't heard me coming down the stairs, but he still showed me the pearl he held so gently in his hands.

"Talking to Kleio," was the simple response.

"Kleio? That's a nice name," I said with a soft smile. "Did you think of it?"

"No, it's just her name." I blinked a litte at that. He was looking up at me with those silver eyes, quite sincere, so I didn't quite know how to take it. Brushing a lock of white hair out of my own eyes, I peered over his shoulder at the pearl.

"Um, how do you know its a girl?" He shrugged a little--very much a little boy gesture. Seemed to say, "I dunno." He turned back around, settling the pearl back in his lap. Apparently Lyra had managed to get him to wear some clothes today, for he was wearing a pair of white shorts. Granted, that's all he was wearing, but it was a marked improvement from when he ran around the house in his birthday suit.

"What are you telling her?" I asked, craning my neck a little more. This time, he carefully put his shoulder in my way, and I huffed a little.

"We're just talking." Apparently that was all I was going to get today. So strange.

Sorry this is a little belated, I was hoping for some RP before I posted this in my journal but eh, que sera sera.

JaydeDragonfly
Jayde blinked down at the little demon who had come running up to her, pearl in hand.

"Jaydejaydejaydejayde! It's glowing!" Corli's excited chatter was broken only by his thrusting the pearl almost directly into her nose. After jerking her head back so it didn't, in fact, hit her in the face, the girl noticed that it was actually glowing. A faint green, actually.

"What did you do to it?" I asked, horrified.

"I didn't do anything!" he cried, pulling the jewel back and clutching it to his chest. "I didn't!" Though he was a demon, he was still an eight-year old first. That was his best defence to everything.

"Well...if you didn't do anything, then maybe we should...ask someone...?" Jayde blinked for a moment, looking left and right, eyes wide in complete confusion.

Rena Ichijouji

A faint gray glow and tugging feeling woke the Clarius out of her sleep. Mumbling, she rubbed her eyes with the back of a hand.
"Wha~...Ooh.." She realized the tugging was a core ready to emerge, and slowly pushed herself up in bed. She gently kicked her blankets off and stood. A long, sleepy yawn escaped, unwillingly, from deep inside, and she finally started walking towards the her door.
"Come on little core...hurry on up so I can go back to bed.." She slowly opened her door, only to be greeted by the darkness of the Clarius chamber, a few gems glimmering slightly from the moonlight outside.

JaydeDragonfly
"This way! This way!" Jayde was just now beginning to realize that children never said anything just once. It had to be at least twice, if not a million times. Just to make sure that everyone heard thim.

Which they had.

"Corli, it's late," she groaned, being tugged along by the hand. "Can't this at least wait until morning?" Apparently, he didn't even dignify this with an answer as he just continued to walk.

"And how do you know where you're going, anyway?" That time he did at least turn, holding Kleio close to him (as if that was any different from every other time). He was giving me that "are you an absolute moron, or what?" look.

"Nevermind," I muttered.

~KiraKaguya~
After finishing the cupcakes, Em decided to head back. Kira would be worried since it was already dark out. Lifting herself up from the stair, she headed for the tree which led back to her home.

With a short, brilliant shimmer, Em turned her attention to the hurrying group holding the glowing core in their arms. A small smile on her face, she yelled out, "Are you going to Etansel to see Crystal-san for the emergence ceremony? If so, I can lead you the way."

JaydeDragonfly
"An emergence ceremony?" Jayde said, blinking still more. "I...suppose so? And I'd really appreciate it?" As she spoke, she realized she was being incredibly rude, and it caused a faint pink stain across her cheeks.

"Ah, and my name's Jayde--I'm not usually so lost and confused." Mostly. "And this is Corli," she added, indicated the little blue-haired child at her side who was clutching the core even tighter, if that was possible.

~KiraKaguya~
Nodding with a smile on her face, Em introduced herself too, "My name is Emarude, but feel free to just call me 'Em'. As for your precious core there, just go through this tree," she pointed, "here. After that, keep following the stairs until you reach the top. There should be large chamber doors up top, and the person who'll guide you through the rest should be there. Her name is Crystal," she nodded, "In any case, I look forward to meeting your little Jumi soon, but I should really get going or else my family will worry."

With a wave, she was off.

JaydeDragonfly
"Um, nice to meet you?" Jayde said to her dissapearing form.

"Stairs!" chirped the little boy from beside her. Obviously, he had his mind already set. Though she was used to trees with the stairs on the outside, surely a tree with them on the inside wouldn't be so different?

Taking slow steps towards said tree, Jayde was going to gingerly step her way through it--after all, it was a tree. Maybe it was a tree that belonged to someone? Maybe she should knock...? But a quick, forceful shove from behind kept her from easing her way gignerly into anything. Perhaps not so gracefully, she fell forwards into the tree, the little boy following behind.

Righting herself as quickly as she could, Jayde stood and streightened her ruffled clothes and hair.

"Corli, you need to warn someone before you just..." But she stopped, because all around her was something...other than the inside of a tree. The stairs that she was looking for? And...

"Crystal?" she called. Sighing heavily, she climbed the stairs. More stairs...she thought. She should be in bed, not climbing stairs.

Rena Ichijouji
Crystal spotted the faint green glow of the core and sighed softly. "Phew..I thought for a bit that it was in the hands of someone bad.."

And with the core, came someone calling her name.."Ah, Yes, I am Crystal. Over here!" She waved her arms about, even though in the darkness, it was hard to spot her.

Her core, sensing the Pearl close, shone brightly, allowing them both to see around the chamber now.

JaydeDragonfly
It was dark at first, which had Jayde grumbling even more. But the sound of someone nearby, at the top of the stairs, lightened her mood a little.

"It's Crystal, Jayde! C'mon!" Of course, the eight year old had enough energy for both of them (thankfully) as he urged her forward. There were a few run-ins with, well, the wall as they went, but after a moment a strange new light made the hallway a little brighter.

"Coming," Jayde said weakly. She should really be used to all this stuff by now, but some things you couldn't really prepare for. Glowing pearls, stairs, walking into trees, stairs, and more glowy rocks. And stairs.

"Hi, Crystal," she said, smiling when she reached the girl. "I'm Jayde. And this is Corli." When she gestured to him, the little boy immidiately held the pearl up to the woman for closer inspection.

"It's glowing," he told her proudly.

Rena Ichijouji
Crystal nodded and smiled, "Nice to meet you..sorry I'm..uh..ye know, in pajamas..but it's late and I could feel the core." She looked over the Pearl and looked to Jayde for an ok.
"May I start? I'm sure you'd like to get back home soon.."

JaydeDragonfly
Jayde nodded, pretending she didn't realize she was standing there in her beautiful blue striped pajamas.

"Yes, and yes," she said, not sure what to expect. Corli looked a little doubtful, but still held the pearl out should this new woman need it.

Rena Ichijouji
Crystal took the Pearl gently and laid it and it's pillow down at the feet of the two.
She then slowly kneeled, leaning over the coreand looking down at it. A small tear flowed from her eyes, down onto the core, causing the room to fill with green mist. It floated around for a bit before a child shaped figure sucked it all up and grinned up at her new parents.

User Image

"Good luck with her!" Crystal said as she stood, patting the young girl on the head gently. "And have a good evening!"
And with that, she made he way back to bed.

JaydeDragonfly
Jayde watched in awe, unaware that she was holding her breath. So this was an emergence ceremony. For once, the boy beside her was silent, also watching the event closely.

There was the breif moment where the room filled with mist, and they both exhaled.

"Oh, you're so pretty," Jayde breathed, kneeling down on the floor to gather the little girl in her arms. "Hey, baby." Corli looked over her shoulder and grinned from ear to ear. He'd told everyone that it was a girl! They'd believe him now.

When Jayde looked up, Crystal was dissapearing, but she still bid her good night as she stood, the green-haired girl in her arms.

"Lets go home, shall we little one?" Kleio looked up at her and smiled softly before she settled her tiny head on Jayde's shoulder.

"Time for bed." Apparently Corli had decided it was time for him to sleep, too. So grabbing the hand of the little demon boy and carrying the sleeping babe, Jayde made her way back home, happier, and somewhat wiser for the experience.

((and the moral of the story is....nothing that has anything to do with RP takes less than an hour and a half. whee ))

As told by Jayde
On the way home
10. 17. 2006

She was so beautiful, as she looked up at me with her wide eyes, her emerald hair shining even in the moonlight. And such a gift...

I didn't think I'd ever have a baby. Though Kleio slept in my arms, I bothered her enough to snuggle her close for just a moment at that thought. Sure, I'm young, but I live on an island where most of it's inhabitants think of me either as mother or as an estranged older sister. That doens't work very well for the idea of a child. Or, yano, any of that other stuff that goes with it. Like love.

Well, that's alright, I told myself. I didn't need a man for love. I could love in different ways, love like a mother loved a child, love the little girl in my arms like I loved and cared for all of those that lived with me.

Granted, I really wanted to strangle the one that was flying behind me, but that didn't mean I didn't love him.

"Can I hold her now?" Corli begged from somewhere around my shoulder. Since he's usually not even chest high, I knew he was flapping his little wings to keep up there, at a steady altitude. If I wasn't so irritated, I'd tell him I was proud of him.

"No, Corli," I told him on a sigh that I hoped didn't sound too frustrated. It wasn't his fault that I was tired, somewhat cranky, and slightly depressed. Dang it, having children wasn't supposed to do that, was it? Well, having children in a manner of speaking. Emerging them from rocks wasn't the usual way of things, but whatever worked.

"Why not? I won't drop her, I promise! I promise I won't!"

"I'm sure you wouldn't sweetheart," I said in the most soothing manner I could muster at the time. "But she might not be used to being out of her pearl yet. Plus she's very sleepy."

Alright, so the long and short of it was that I was being selfish. I had that right, every now and then. There were so few times that I could really think of myself in a house of twenty five, that I took the opportunities where I could. If it was walking across the friggin' island at two o'clock in the friggin morning, then so be it.

"She can sleep if I hold her!" he argued, still in his childish pleading voice.

"I'm afraid that if I move her, she'll wake. She also might wake up if we keep arguing." That worked. I'm not sure when it happened, but Corli had a strange attachment to the little Jumi. Ever since he found her in the stream by the house, seemingly abandoned, he'd taken her in.

That might be because he, himself was abandoned, but honestly none of us really knew about where Corli came from. Admittedly, I wans't sure anyone had asked, but he kept secrets like Fort Knox kept gold, which was both an admirable and irritating trait in one so young.

"I guess you're right," he admitted glumly, fluttering down to the ground to walk beside me. It was probably good that he didn't hold her anyway, for his own little shoulders drooped with fatigue.

"We're almost home," I told him, a real smile gracing my lips now. Home with Kleio. Once Lyra got over the shock of having a real, honest to goodness baby in the house, she was probably going to be the most spoiled of all of them.

Damen I wasn't so sure about, but I suppose you never know. Babies and small animals seemed to bring out the best in people.

I snuggled the little girl again as I stopped just at the edge of the sand.

"We're home, baby," I told her, eyes glassy.

"Home?" she said sleepily, eyes barely open.

"Home."

As told by Jayde
At home, a few days later
10.29.2006

"Alright, explain to me again how you managed to bring home another one." Lyra was thrilled, of course, and hadn't yet come to terms with the fact that I'd left the house with a pearl and returned home with a baby.

"It's not just another one," I told him, somewhat crossly as I adjusted the little girl on my hip, "Kleio is a baby. And I'll have you know, that you were the one that brought her home."

"This is where I'm having trouble understanding." A few weeks (months? Years? Time meant next to nothing around here) ago, Corli had run off, and when Lyra found him and brought him home, the little demon had a very large pearl with him. The baby on my hip was what resulted. I explained this to Lyra, again.

"No," he told me, more irritated than I had ben, "there is no possible way I could have helped the demon bring home another one of your pets! No way!"

"Vati, don't you like her?" Corli's little voice came up from beside the elder kath's elbow, and I saw Lyra swallowed hard. Corli was using his pitiful, hurt feelings voice, and that was the way to get just about anything from 'vati.'

"You don't like her? You wish you hadn't brought her home?" First and foremost, I hoped Kleio couldn't pick up on all of this, but by the way she was contentedly altrenating between tugging on my hair and chewing on it, I didn't think she did. I heard and saw Lyra swallow hard.

"Of course I like her," he choked out around his pride and his dislike for my bringing in more mouths to feed. As if he worked. "I was just...surprised to find out that the stone turned into a little girl."

Surprised my little toe. I coughed to hide my disbelief as I turned and walked into the kitchen. I"d have to go to the grocery store to get some baby food, or something, cause right now the closest thing I had was the peas I made the other night, and they weren't supposed to come out like mush so I didn't think that counted.

"A-are you sure?" Corli's voice had gotten a little wavery there for a moment, but it was mostly still now as I'm sure he stared up at Lyra with his huge eyes.

"Of course I'm sure." I heard more than saw Lyra scoop the little boy up in his arms, as I knew he would do no such thing if I were around. Nevertheless, it made me smile.

"So you're going to take me and Kleio to the grocery store so we can get baby food and baby toys and all sorts of baby things that we're going to need for her because we don't haev anything because we've never had a baby before don't you think we're going to need a lot more stuff? I'm sure Jayde would like it cause she's been carrying Kleio around all day, I think sghe doesn't need diapers though cause that would suck cause I dont' know how to change diapers but I bet Jayde can!" Lyra emitted an audiable groan that sounded almost painful.

"I didn't say I'd do all that!" I chuckled and Kleio giggled and laughed, clapping her tiny hands together. Seemed she liked the idea, too, though it was doubtful she knew what kind of experience it was likely to be.

"You don't want to take us out anywhere, Vati?" Here it goes again...

As told by Lyra
In the grocery store
12.06.06

Big green eyes stared up at me from the shopping cart as I uncerimoniously stuffed the little jumi girl into the front. They hardly ever blinked, and when they did, it was slow and thoughtful. Like she was studying me.

"What?" I asked her, but of course she said nothing.

"Are you talking to Kleio, vati?" a little demon piped up from somewhere around my elbow. Usually when I said that, I was just talking about the fact that Corli's race was actually demon; this was not the case today.

"No," I huffed, beginning to push the cart through the store, trying to find all of the things on the masstive gocery list of death I'd been seant with. It was at least two pages long, and I had no idea where we would put all of it once I brought it home...but that wasn't my problem. I will have shopped for it, and that's that!

"It sure sounded like you were talking to her," Corli said with a cheesy grin. He loved the little girl, and was excited at the prospect that I was warming up to her. I didn't want to give him any ideas that that was actually happening.

I'm not a kid person. Never have been, never will be. But for the damndest reason, they flock to me like sheep to a shepard. Probably because they know it irritates me, but I suppose that's beside the point. Grabbing one of the items off the shelf and dumping it into the cart, I growled.

"I wasn't," I told the little demon. When I looked back at the cart, those emerald green eyes still stared at me. Every now and again, thoughout our little excursion, she would turn to grab at one of the things I put into the cart. Curious, but not bold enough to try and take it once it went over the edge.

And quiet. Unlike the little demon that still pestered me.

"Can we get that?"
"No."
"What about that?"
"No."
"Ooooh that thing looks good!"
"No! It's not on the list, and we only have enough money to get what's on the list."

Finally, a pause where I could catch my breath as I began filling the cart with vegitables.

"But--"
"No!"

And then the curious, quiet child that had been sitting in the front of the cart started to cry. The green eyes that had been studying me all afternoon went glassy and tears began to leak out the corners of them.

"Oh, look at what you did Vati!" Corli said, humphing and crossing his arms over his chest. (I will never, ever, in a million years admit that he learned that trick from me.)

"You gotta fix it now."

"Well, how do I fix it?"

"You scared her! You gotta tell her it's alright!" I looked back down at the sniffling child who was now beginning to whimper. When she saw that I was acknowledging her presense, two tiny hands held up to be.

"See? She wants you to pick her up now."

"I don't want to pick her up."

"She's going to cry more if you don't." And that was, in the end, the deciding factor. Reaching down inch at a time as if the little baby might really start to wail as if I made a wrong move, I circled her with my much bigger hands and lifted her up out of the cart.

We stared at each other for a minute like that. She looked a little less like she was going to explode in a mass of tears and screaming, but didn't look thrilled in any case. Corli giggled.

"That's not how you're supposed to hold her," he told me when he could manage around his laughter.

"I know that," I growled at him, and she freaking started to tear up again.

"No, I didn't mean that," I told her in the closest thing I could manage to a croon. Awkwardly at first and then a little more comfortably, I propped the child up on my hip where she clung to my clothes like a little monkey. Hey, maybe I could get the hang of this. This didn't seem so hard...

Green eyes that were clear again stared up at me.

"Vati?" she asked in her little girl voice.

"Yes, that's right!" Corli chirped. "That's vati!"

If she was going to start learning from him, it was going to be a tough ride.

Sorry, I know it's short and somewhat crappy but I've been falling behind. I also noted in the thread that you want us to make our own personalities for the little jumis, which is a little different than I'd thought. XD Yeah, anyway...And also, for whatever reason, the computer and Gaia are in cohoots to make sure I can't keep the pattern that I have set for the Journal entries. **le sigh**

As told by Riordan
At the treehouse
3.24.2007

"You really are a tiny child
with temperment that's meek and mild
human whole, no wing or hoof
So how did you get on the roof?"

Riordan looked down at the small green-haired child that had managed to make her way up onto the thatched roof of the treehouse. H eknew that if he called Lady Jayde, she'd no doubt have a few things to say to a certain kathenian "prince" that was supposed to be watching the little one today; he wasn't sur ehe wanted to get the sharp side of Lyra's tongue this morning, as much as he usually liked goading him.

"Vati?" she cooed, looking up at the lavender Audio.

"No little one, the one you call vati is downstairs sleeping
though around the horizon the sunlight is creeping
he must not know that small pixies rise with the light
to dance and play and chase off the night."

A furry smile crossed his muzzle when she giggled at him, throwing her head back and eyes sparkling like the mythical creature he'd compared her to. She spent most of her time with Jayde, Lyra and Corli so it was very likely Kleio hadn't heard his...lyrical way of speaking.

Hunching down to her level (which wasn't incredibly difficult as he was only three feet tall himself), Riordan smiled at the little Jumi. He'd never played babysitter for all the treehouse's numerous children, so perhaps this would be interesting.

"So tell me little Jumi, how do you play?
Do you sit and laze the day away?
Or do you wish to swim in the sea
where you can splash and play and swim with me?"

She giggled again and clapped her hands before holding them up to him expectantly. With another smile, Riordan gathered the precious bundle up in his arms and made his way back downstairs. No doubt that was a safer place for a child to play. Despite the large roof on the house, it was a very long fall.

She still hadn't indicated how and why she'd come to be there in the first place. Though she made burbly noises in his general direction, it didn't seem like she planned on giving away any of her secrets.

"Corli?" she asked, surprising him.

"Your friend is likely with the kathenian,
asking to go to Ms. Aikos again
if you'd like we can fetch the blue-haired one
and he can join us out in the sun."

Laughing and claping, Kleio almost timbled out of his arms in her enthusiasm. Carefully, he curled a paw around her wiggling form so she didn't do just that.

"Careful Kleio, that fall is a far one
Tumbling to the floor wouldn't be much fun."

The reprimand went all but unnoticed, but at least she seemed to calm down a little. Human children, or at least children that were very close to human, weren't like audio pups. At least when she was on the ground she didn't move as fast.

He'd never found a pup on the roof, though. Shaking his head ever so slightly, Riordan tepped down a few more stairs before turning to stand outside of one of the curtained off rooms.

"Vati, vati! It's been light out for ages, don't you think you could get up and play for a while it's so pretty outside I"ll just bet the waters really warm and the waves aren't too bad and you won't even have to ge tin the water you can stand up on the shore even though it isn't as much fun but it'll still be a lot of fun and we can take Kleio down to the beach and play in the water and maybe we'll find a seashell like we did last time wouldn't that be fun huh?"

"Corli!" the jumi chirped, happing again as she recognized the jumble of chatter.

"She's askin' for you," Riordan heard from somewhere inside. It sounded muffled, as if Lyra had tried pulling a pillow over his head to block out the stream of excited chatter. "Why don't you watch her for a minute? I'll be down in a little while. Yeah, a little while..." There was a little bit of rustling as Lyra buried himself deeper in the cave that was his bed and curled back up for a few more...hours...of blissful sleep.

With a longsuffering sigh, the little demon poked him one last time for good measure before turning to exit the room.

"Kleio has been looking for you
and we're wondering what to do
It sounds like you have lots of plans
of going out to work on your tan." Riordan grimaced when he heard the disgusted bellow from behind the curtain.

"Riordan it's to early for that couplet shi--"

"Time to go to the beach," the audio said, too rushed to make up a rhyme.

"You didn't rhyme that time," Corli whispered as if letting him know.

"Oh you're right, mercy me!
We failed to rhyme, didn't we?
But you yourself rhymed instead
Tinking of it off the top of your head!
'bout the one that I missed, please don't tell anyone
because then they'll know and it's just not as much fun.
It's our little secret, yours, Kleios and mine
But lets go to the beach and we'll have a grand time!"

And they did.

((Zomg, I know I should have been posting more journal entries, but I"ve been so busy (and so lazy, too >.>;; ). I've done couplets as pennance, lol))

((Eh, I get lazy. I don't feel like putting it in the same format, and gaia has given up on letting me put anything in the document setting anymore. But! Here's a journal entry anyway. xD))

"Lyra, why have you been inside every night before dark?" I'd known something was the matter for a while now, especially since he'd loved being outside at night as long as I'd known him. Since the past halloween, however, he'd been inside almost every night even before the sun finished setting in the sky.

"You're afraid of the dark," he said gruffly. "I don't want to leave you alone." That was pretty much the same answer I'd been getting for weeks now, even though I'd never been so blunt in asking him. Crossing my arms, I leaned against the stairway as I watched him hold Kleio. He'd gotten quite adept at it, despite my earlier fears that he was going to drop her on her head.

He'd actually done quite well by her, at least I thought. It probably helped that she followed Corli arond like (another) little puppy, fighting with Lyra and Sabrina for the little demons attention. Corli, in turn, followed Lyra around, so he practically had a little gaggle of children following him around everywhere. He grouched, but he didn't really mind.

I sighed heavily, trying to come back to the subject at hand.

"As many people are in here, I wont be alone." I hated to admit it, but he wasn't stretching the truth when he said I was afraid of the dark. I was always inside before he was, even now. "You don't have to worry about me." I crossed my feet at the ankles, showing that I wasn't going anywhere until he answered my question.

From somewhere behind him, Corli appeared, looking a little torn. He must know something, I thought, and not want to tell me. He thought of Lyra as his father and me as some sort of weird older sister thing, which was somewhat bothersome at time but whatever worked. He wouldn't tell me anything unless he thought it was alright with his Vati.

Said Vati looked down at Kleio, ruffling her hair.

"There's something wrong with the sky," he whispered, crawling over to where I was and sitting at my feet. "Since last halloween, there's something wrong with the sky." I frowned. That wasnt' the answer I was expecting.

"What's wrong with the sky?"

"There are no stars in it," he finally said, breaking what was a pregnant pause. Of course Corli wouldn't have known that, and my eyes jerked to where he sat, still playing with Kleio, not looking up. As if sensing the tension in the air, her giggling and cooing had stopped and she was looking between me and Lyra.

"How can it not have any stars in it?" I asked softly.

"It's the Elf king," corli whispered hoarsely. "He took them away from Vati because he wasn't afraid." I felt chills break out all over my body. The Erlkonig--the elf king. The german carnation of death had been known to stop by the treehouse to scare the hell out of us from time to time. The first time he'd come, he'd come looking for Corli.

None of us knew what had really happened the next time. I'd been out with Will, and lyra had gone to walk home on his own since Aiko had been otherwise occupied. He'd been gone quite a while.

To give him credit, he was practically the same as before...with that one small quirk. Now that I thought about it, he never spoke of the stories that the stars told, as he called them. Never informed us ignorant fools of how to read the sky, the history it held and the stories that were woven around those lights in the mystic blue. I swallowed hard.

"Don't," he said shortly, making Kleio jump. Without missing a beat, he smiled down at her and ruffled her hair, making her giggle again.

"I dont' need your pity," he said on a lighter note, though I knew how horrible it must be for him. His name, Lyra, even came from the stars themselves, and his breed of kathinian had always been closely tied to the stars. He'd been alive for over two hundred years now and he'd always had the stars to guide his way.

"Well, you won't get any," I told him on the same awkward light note, though both of us knew it was a lie. Bleeding heart as I was, there was no way I could not feel for him. I turned the corner from the stairways and moved into the kitchen to begin preparing dinner, chewing on my lip, not sure of what to do.

"Vati didn't want you to know," came a small voice from beside me. It was Corli, who had apparently left Lyra to his own devices with the little one. "He didnt' want you to worry. He knew that you had enough to worry about." With a grave nod of such a small head, he left me alone with my thoughts again. I stopped by the sink, propping my hands up on the counter. What was I supposed to do? My instict was, like it was with all of my adoptees, to give him a hug and tell him everything was alright, but that wasn't really true, was it?

~~~~~~~~
It was some hours later when Corli came into the kitchen again as I was cleaning up after dinner. It hadn't been much, but then, I'm not much of a cook. This time, he had Kleio with him in an awkward immitation of Lyra propping her up on his hip. Gently, I gathered her up from him and into my arms, where she nestled in the crook of my shoulder comfortably. It was just about bedtime in the peanut gallery.
"Where's Vati?" I asked, using his term for Lyra.
"He's on the roof," he told me, wide eyed. My own eyes getting a little wide, I just watched him for a minute. Lyra? was up on the roof? It was long past sunset as late in the season as it was. How could he stand to be up there...in the darkness?
"Maybe we should let him alone for alittle while," I said gently. "I think it's about time for bed anyway."
"Vati?" came a little voice from my shoulder and I stifled a groan.
"No, baby, vati's upstairs. You'll see him in the morning."
"Vati?" she asked again, seeming to come a little bit more awake with every time she had to ask again. Not wanting to completely rouse her from her half asleep state, I glanced up the stairs and chewed my lip a little. Maybe he needed company anyway? God, I hoped so.
"We'll go say hi to Vati and then go beddie-bye," I crooned into her ear, smoothing a little of her green hair back from her face. Seemed like she was almost all the way back asleep now. I sighed, knowing if we really didn't see Vati she'd be back awake. Carefully, I plodded up the stairs and pushed open the hatch that led to the roof.
"Lyra?" I called, somewhat hesitantly.
"What?" was the gruff response. If I looked carefully into the darknes, I could see his figure laying on his back, looking up at the sky. The only thing was...were his eyes closed? I couldn't tell at this distance.
"Kleio wanted to say goodnight," I said, a little softer. He turned his head in our direction, opening his eyes (guess they had been closed) to see the light leaking from around the door to the main building.
"C'mon up then, I guess," he said on a sigh. I knew he'd relent a little when I told him one of his 'children' had wanted to come up. Though I was a little hesitant to leave the bright downstairs, I carefully crawled up onto the thatched roof and moved to sit beside him. Corli, thoughtful of my weird parinoia, left it open for me so it wouldn't be completely black.
The little jumi began to move in my arms until she finally got free and moved to cuddle up with Lyra.
"See stars?" she said on a huge yawn, making me grimace. Children knew no bias, but they also knew no tact. I heard Lyra heave a ragged sigh as he closed his eyes once more. I thought maybe he'd just let her fall asleep cuddled up with him until finally he pointed up at the sky.
"You see that one?" he said, pointing directly up to Orion, though his eyes were closed. Both she and Corli nodded, excited. "That's the Orion constilation. Do you know what that is?"
I felt tears form in my eyes and my throat go tight as I watched him give them a stargazing lesson with his eyes closed. Oh, he still could tell where any of them where, anywhere, any time of the year--he'd had plenty of practice. The longer he talked, the stronger his voice got, smooth and entrancing so much that even I was entranced by the stories of brave heros of old.
I glanced over at the kath and saw something sparkling in the dim light still gowling from the door in the roof.
"I think that's all for tonight,' he said, his story finished. Corli and Kleio were both asleep now, not complainign when I gently gathered both of them carefully into my arms. Silently I made my way back into the house, seeing Lyra roll over onto his side just as I closed the door.
I wondered what he was thinking, though I had a feeling I already knew.
((A little pointless with no real ending, but whatevah.))
PostPosted: Sun Apr 22, 2007 2:24 pm
I yawned and stretched, preparing myself for another day. The little one beside me was already stirring, ready to get up and out of bed. I didn't know how someone so small had such a boundless supply of energy, but I guess that's because she slept more than anything else.
"Time to get up?" she said in a small voice, emerald eyes as wide as saucers as she sat an inch from my face.
"Time to get up," I told her with a small sigh. I sat up and rubbed my eyes as she babbled delightedly. She was speaking much better now (though with all of the talking around the house, I wasn't entirely surprised), but she still had moments of slipping back into her own little baby language. It kind of reminded me of Corli when he was younger.
Somewhat groggily, I stepped out of the bed and helped her onto the floor where she'd play with my pajamas for a while as I got dressed for the day. I always thought it was the bright colors on it that amused her so, as there really wasn't anything else really to play with in the room. I frowned a little. She really didn't have that many toys, did she?
I paused and looked around the room. It was mostly all of my things, with a few bags and piles of baby and toddler things I'd collected. There were a few books that I could read to her, and a few toys that I'd been told helped children develop active minds, but nothing for her just to play with. I felt a little ashamed of myself.
Looking down at her, still fiddling with my pajamas, I thought it was a good thing she was so patient with all of us. None of us had really raised a human child before, for all the animals that were running around the islands. Perhaps I should ask Aiko for a little assistance with all of this, if I could ever get in touch with her.
"I think we're going to go out today," I cooed down at her, bending over to gather the little girl up in my arms. I carefully plopped her down on the bed and dressed her in one of the sand colored sundresses I'd picked out for her while I'd been out the other day. Though it made her kind of look like a palm tree with all that green hair, she still looked cute. How could she not?
"Ready to go?" I asked her, bending down to her level and smiling at her.
"Ready!" she chirped back at me with a smile. Kleio didn't wait for someone to pick her up anymore--rather, she walked, climbed ran or jumped wherever she wanted to go. Despite her sweet demeanor, she was developing something of a stubborn streak.
Personally, I blamed Lyra, but whatever. Better that than her picking up any habits from Damen. He hadn't been at the treehouse much, though, so I didn't worry too much.
With a careful eye (or two) I watched her crawl down the stairs to bother the animals that were still curled up on the floor in front of the door where the breeze blew through the night. Riordan and the kittens didn't usually mind too much at her waking them, so I moved into the kitchen to start preparing breakfast.
Soon called in by the smell of bacon and pancakes, Corli bounded into the main house, shortly followed by a kath that was even more groggy than I was.
"Why the hell do you all insist on getting up so early?" he griped, pulling a chair up at the round table I'd gotten what seemed like forever ago. The chair groaned a little bit as he flopped into it and rested his elbows on the table.
"Watch your mouth," I told him, more out of habit than anything. He'd quit saying the really aweful words in front of the children and usually sticked to the basics now. Luckily, the kids seemed to be more amused by my fussing at him than apt to pick up the words for themselves.
"I insist on getting up early becasue, for some people, there's a lot to get done. Moreso for some than others," I said with a pointed look in his general direction.
"I dont want to hear it woman," he told me, waving a finger in my direction as I sat a plate down in front of him on the table. "Imagine how much money you'd spend if you actually got a babysitter for all the little brats you had running around here!" It was an old argument.
"Well, I wouldn't be saving very much today, as I'm taking Kleio out to the mainland today. She and I have a little bit of shopping to do." I heard another groan come from him and thought if I hadn't already set the plate down in front of him, Lyra probably would have flopped his head down on the table.
"Oh, your'e going to go buy stuff?" Corli chirped from my elbow, taking the plate that I handed to him. "Are you going to bring me back something?"
"Maybe if you're good for vati today," I informed him, as if he were ever anything different for his Vati. Already wanting to start on the being good thing, Corli ran to put his plate beside Lyras and fetch everyones drink. He was a good little demon, ironically.
"Anyway, we'll be heading out after breakfast." Turning to face the livingroom I called, "Kleio, breakfast is ready!" I heard her miming the doublets that Riordan was prone to as she made her way into the kitchen on legs that got sturdier as the days went buy. In a move that was much liek Corlis, she pushed her plate next to his and climbed up on the chair to sit next to him.
Ah, mealtimes. The only time when the house was reasonably quiet. It didn't last long as Corli wolfed down his food and rushed to take his plate to the sink.
"Kleio," I warned, "you need to at least finish your eggs before you follow after Corli." There was a little bit of fussing, but she did as she was told, leaving her own plate on the table as she tried to bound after the little blue-haired boy.
"Corli!" she called, wandering after him.
"That just leaves you here with Corli today," I said, turning to Lyra. "Think you can handle it?" He said nothing, only rolled his eyes at me. Standing, I took mine and Kleios plate to the sink where Lyra would probably wash them later. I chuckled to myself when I thought of how well trained I'd gotten him. When he'd first come to the treehouse, all he did was lay around all day, but I guess he learned that if he didn't want to cook his own meals he'd have to do a little work around here.
"Have a good day," I called back at him.
"You too, sweetie," he said sarcastically. For all that we acted like a married couple, it couldn't be farther from it. When Lyra first followed me home, he'd been a...well, a very large cat with bat wings. It would be weird for us to be anything but friends. Laughing, I found Kleio and managed to pry her away from Corli long enoguh to convince her to come shopping with me.
"You might bring home a couple of toys," I told her with a smile. She tilted her head at me and blinked her green eyes as if wondering, what kind of toy would I bring home? There are so many fuzzy ones here to play with! But I didn't think the cats felt quite the same way.
"C'mon, Dav is gonna give us a ride to the mainland."
"Go for a ride?"
"Yes, we're going to go for a ride."
Though the little girl was fearful of getting up on the large dragon at first, Dav's natural affinity for children helped with that. Honestly, I shouldn't have been worried--everyone generally thought of him as a (very, very, very) large dog anyway; Kleio would be no different. She giggled softly, wide eyes looking up as she softly touched the dragons nose.
"Gentle," she said with a wide grin, showing a couple of the new teeth she'd gotten.
"That's with the kitties," I told her with a small smile. "Though I'm sure Dav appreciates it, too." We'd had to have the 'gentle' conversation about petting the cats not too long ago, and she was now applying it to a dragon. Well...maybe I'd been mistaken. Maybe she'd think of Dav as a cat.
"Are you ready to go for a ride?"
"Go for ride?" she parroted, as she was apt to do. Wide green eyes looked up at me and smiled; she was so sweet and mild-mannered; so different from, oh, everyone else here at the treehouse. It was kind of nice, actually.
"Yes, we're going for a ride." After a moments hesitation, Dav helped me clamber onto his back and hold on tight as he flew over to mainland Gambino (such as it is). As usual, the great dragon parked himself on the outskirts of town so not to bother anyone who had never seen a dragon before, not that there was likely to be such a person here on Gaia.
We ambled about the shops a bit and I watched Kleio, trying to really get to know her personality outside of the house. She was usually glued to Corli, and his somewhat boyant (ie, loud and sometimes obnoxious) personality easily overwhelmed her quiet one. But it was there, and it was blossoming as she grew. As if she knew I was thinking about her, she looked up at me and smiled.
At the toy store, her eyes turned into wide green saucers as she looked around at all of the sparklie things. Personally, I looked for the ones that she could irritate Lyra with, but that probably wasn't the best plan, and certainly wasn't the idea for the time being.
Again, I watched carefully as she moved through the isles with both painstaking care to detail and a short attention span...a combination that only a child can truly pull off. After a while, though, she got in the habit of carrying around a little stuffed rabbit. The poor little thing looked like it had been dragged around the store by dozens of children just like her, and then left in a heap of returned toys somewhere, and yet no matter how hard I tried to convince her to get a nicer one, she just shook her head.
"Ma'am, are you sure you want that one?" the clerk asked me, looking down at the ratty toy. Kleio, slightly defensive by this point, clung to her little gray rabbit and shook her head at me. I could tell she was getting tired, and this was certainly not the time or place to start something over a little rabbit.
'Yes, it seems to be the one she's settled on," I said, admitting defeat. The good thing was that at least the woman gave me a discount--and asked that I not tell anyone that I got it at this particular toy store. It really was quite pathetic looking, but Kleio seemed to like it well enough.
"Time to go home?" she asked sleepily as I picked her up and put her on my hip, heading out to the direction of the parked dragon.
"Yes, its time to go home."
((>.>;; yes, I know it's terribly lame, but I'm in a bit of a funk with this particular journal, and I'm trying desperately to actually RP Kleio and not someone else. So there.))
