Hairy Priest Has anybody said they liked Peter Davison the best? Except for the fact that he wore a stick of celery all the time, his version was just so normal compared to the rest. The very first Dr. Who story I ever saw was Earthshock, so for the longest time Davison was the Doctor to me... and not knowing about regeneration beforehand, I was quite shocked when he morphed into Colin Baker. [Actually, my response at the time was something like "huh, why is the Doctor changing into that?!"] While I obviously liked Davison at the time, having seen all ten incarnations now, I'd be hard pressed to consider his rather bland portrayal as one of my top 3 favorites. But surely someone out there must be a Davison fan. And I'm rather curious as to what aspects of the Fifth Doctor they find most appealing. ... anyone? Davison is a good actor, but the Doctor is not one of his better roles. That wasn't his fault. The producer of the series in those days had a strange vision of Doctor Who thta was often at odds with the true nature of the series. He did much to improve the production values and the background music, but his legacy was a string of companions that few people liked, and a "more vulnerable" Doctor. It was a disastrous experiment in many ways. The 5th Doctor appealed mostly to the younger, newer fans. The 6th Doctor went in an even different direction that many fans rejected. Again, this wasn't Colin Baker's fault. This was the fault of a producer who wanted very much to remake Doctor Who in his own image, and during the 7th Doctor years, a sizable portion of the audience vanished. Again, not Sylvester McCoy's fault. All three of these Doctors were reflections of different facets of the Doctor's overall personality, as long-standing fans would recognize, and all of them had their strengths as well as weaknesses. But Peter Davison himself said he figured it was best to get out while the getting was good, and he was the only one I know of who ever said in public that he thought the Doctors from this era (Doctors 5, 6, 7 and part of 4) looked contrived and silly with their question marks and cute, gimmicky costumes. You will note that the 7th Doctor no longer had question marks on his clothes when he regenerated, and Doctor 8 never had them at all.

On the whole, Tom Baker was my favorite. But having seen only 9 Doctgors, I would rank my favorites more or less in this order:
1. Doctor #4 2. Doctor #8 3. Doctor #7 4. Doctor #9 5. Doctor #2 6. Doctor #3 7. Doctor #6 8. Doctor #5 9. Doctor #1

Wind-Whisper Davison is a good actor, but the Doctor is not one of his better roles. JNT definitely made some odd choices during his tenure as producer. The question marks on the Doctor's costume being one (the costume designer mentions on the Leisure Hive DVD that she wasn't overly thrilled about the idea when JNT asked for the ? marks on the 4th Doctor's new outfit). I probably would have liked the Colin Baker era better if he hadn't been wearing that disasterous coat. To a lesser extent, I have the same feeling about RTD's turn at the helm. While I like what he's done with the show overall, I wish they'd reduce the emphasis on the relationship between the Doctor and Rose, and focus a bit more on telling science fiction stories. And I could definitely do without silly stuff like belching garbage bins and farting aliens... neutral

My faves are prabably Tom Baker and David Tennant. I like Ten's personality, really hyper at one time and then suddenly all serious. whee
But I agree, the relationship between Rose/Doctor is really the central theme of the two recent series. And, what was with Renette/Doctor? NO! You cheating scum! scream It does seem like Ten likes his blondes...

peter... moffet? xD I thought it was Davison...
I go with the 5th, and the 1st. the 9th is the first I saw, but I don't like him too much. o: I would vote for the 10th, but all I've seen of him are clips online. ;_; The first doctor is pretty cool. I like their very first episodes, very interesting plots. But the 5th one is definetely the best!! He was young, spontaneos, and vulnerable, and I think that's what made him unique. x3
... heh... celery. <3

Favorite Doctor would have to be the dandy, flamboyant, big haired Jon Pertwee! I love that style so much! whee I guess I also really love Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell as he was the original... Tom Baker is okay I guess and I thought he was my favorite, just because he was the most known. The more I watch though, the more I feel he wasn't as good as people make out...

So far Christopher Eccleston is my favourite Doctor. His incarnation of teh Doc was the first one that I was familiar with.
I really need to purchase some of the older episodes on DVD, so I can see what the previous Doctors were like.
I do like David Tennant's Doctor, but he's more than a little self-obsessed, and shouts far too much.

I think I would have to say David Tennant. Only becuase I have only seen three sweatdrop But Paul McGann is a close second! Although the film was crap, he made a good Doctor.

I actually found McGann's Doctor rather irritating. I'm not entirely certain why but something about him just bugged me.
