i was considering gathering up my pittence and buying a new jazz cd...what do u guys recommend?...i just know right after i post this im gonna find another topic with the same question because i never look before i post...but maybe u've changed ur minds since when u posted in those smile im also welcoming some friendly non music conversation...seeing as how im really bored... mrgreen

Check out the band Jaga Jazzist. It's kinda like techno/hip-hop/fusion jazz. Interesting stuff for a ten piece group. Check out the album Livingroom Hush.

David Holland Big Band it won best jazz album at the Grammy's and is definately a great new album to have.

Jaco Pastorius's "The Birthday Concert." Its a live recording, very energetic, very tasty. I bought it on a whim and haven't regretted it yet.

David Holland Big Band it won best jazz album at the Grammy's and is definately a great new album to have.

wow, i've never heard of them! that sounds good. i recommend Kind of Blue by Miles Davis, Supernatural by Santana (which isn't really jazz, but if you want some sexy Latin music that makes you wanna dance...), or Blue Train by John Coltrane. one CD that's also not exactly jazz but i'm still crazy about is What is Hip? The Tower of Power Anthology, which is an awesome funk/soul/jazz album by my favorite band, Tower of Power.

Check out Galactic's Late For the Future. It's an awesome Jazz/funk/bluegrassy band and I'd also recommend some Tower of Power, and Stan Getz's stuff. If you're into metal or punk, try looking for some Jazzcore stuff. I don't know any non-local jazzcore bands off the top of my head though, sorry sweatdrop
