Shouko was sitting on the edge of the community pool watching all the other fish that were passing by as she took notes on how Fuyumi reacted to each one's passing. It was funny to watch, some she would stare at with curiosity and others she would charge at, clunking her head into her tank, which was starting to become alittle small for her.
Shaking her head she smiled and waved a hand above the tank, drawing Fuyumi's attention. "Feedin' time." She murmured, dropping alittle fortified fish food inside.

"It's about TIME!" A high, echoing voice pierced the near silent area that was the community pool. The owner, a rather short nineteen-year-old, who most might mistake for a young teenager. Feet dressed in large, black boots took surprisingly agile, soft steps across the floor.
"Aeraen..." Eloise shook her head. "SHH. I'm right next to you- don't talk so loud." For a good while now, Aeraen, Eloise's one and only "bestest friend in the whole wide world", had been begging her to bring her along to the labs. When she had eel-sat a few weeks back, she wasn't allowed to let Yshe out into the Community Pool by herself. This was a rule set by Eloise hereself- Aeraen wasn't exactly the best at paying attention. "Look-" Eloise kneeled next to the pool. "-she should be somewhere around here..."
And she was! The slender, nearly two-foot long Yshe darted out from a rock crevice, one of her typical hiding places. She looked up hopefully at Eloise- perhaps she would be getting food? But no! There was no food- only some.. other girl, this one with short, silver-white hair. Nervous, the eel slunk back into her hiding place. She knew she recognized this other girl from.. somewhere... but her memory was hazy. What if it had been a bad memory?

" Greetings! " Shouko chirpped as she looked up from her clipboard at the two that had just entered. Tucking her ivory colored hair behind a ear she adjusted her hat and gave a small wave to them. " Look Fuyumi, people! "
Fuyumi was still blatantly starring at Shouko's hand. The hand usually meant food, bu the hand had no food....WHERE WAS HER FOOD!?

"Oh!" Aeraen gasped. She hadn't even noticed another person nearby, thus proving the "not paying attention" theory. "Hello..." She waved back at the woman with the clipboard. She might have dashed over to introduce herself properly, but Eloise was still kneeling over the side of the pool, staring down at Yshe. "Aww.. that's not very nice, Ellie.."
The girl groaned. She wasn't the most social person and had always tried not to attract to much attention. Unfortunately, this was near impossible with her friend, as she loved to get into everything. So, she stood up and made a small hand motion to Yshe- "follow me". Eloise led the eel closer to Shouko, and Aeraen followed happily.
Yshe wasn't thrilled with following the (empty) hand closer to the unfamiliar Tall One. Especially because, nearby, some mix of Tall One and Fish swam behind glass. Would it attack her? She didn't know. She had never met a "Tall Fish" before.

Fuyumi finally looked forward when she heard the tapping of feet againsat the concrete that surrounded the openigng of the Reef. More people....MORE PEOPLE. This was exciting! More people to gawk at her beautifully colored fins and things. Fuyumi scrambled to the surface of her tank and popped her head out, taking a deep breath from the surface air. It wasn't as thrilling as the watered air, but it would safice. "NYA." She squeaked, still not understanding the concept of 'greetings'.
"No, not 'NYA'. You say hello, Fuyumi." Shouko corrected, watching as the little halfling gave her a strange look as if to say 'This coming from the hand that did not feed me'.

And then, as one might have predicted, Aeraen did coo. She clasped her hands together and bit her bottom lip. She'd always had a soft spot for pretty/cute/fishy things. Part of the reason she so badly wanted to come visit the facilities. "NYA," she repeated with a laugh. "Hello- Fuyumi, I presume..?"
While her friend was busy oggling at the young fish girl's flowing tail and "oh so silley" greetings, Eloise was rolling her eyes and sighing. For being intelligent, Aeraen was a real idiot. "So.." she said softly, addressing Shouko. "She's like a mermaid, then?"
The Ocellated Moray let bubbles out of her mouth and retreated in surprise at the sudden motion coming from the Tall Fish. As of yet, the only thing it had done was make a noise of some sort. It was a loud noise- like the Tall Ones. Maybe it was really just a Tall One in disguise! Trying to trick all the unwitting Fish! Ahaha- well, it wasn't going to get her. She was ready for its tricks.

" Indeed. A Mini-mermaid. " Shouko smiled, patting the top of Fuyumi's head. As it would seem Fuyumi was only about a foot in length. If all went as predicted she'd only reach 4 feet at the end of growth, or at least, that's what was predicted. " There are other's about like her....Well, not totally like her. Fuyumi is the only one so far who is not a salt water variety fish. " Shouko commented as she noticed Yshe in the water, "Aren't you pretty. " She murmured, leaning over abit to get a better look.
Fuyumi was taking in the attention happily and nodded her head, pointing to herself. "Me Fumi~" She giggled, judging by her speech patterns she had the mental capacity of a child, a rather young child.

Aeraen smiled and then pointed to herself as well. "And I'm Aeraen. 'Air-en'." A lot of people had trouble saying it. The small fish girl would probably have even more trouble. "You have a very lovely tail, little lady."
"Oh.. more mini-mermaids.. Is that how the fish here are changing?" Usually, Eloise would have warned Shouko that Yshe might bite, but the eel seemed more relaxed lately, and generally responded well to compliments. She seemed to understand some simple words- and "pretty" was one of them.
Distracted from her watch of the Tall Fish, Yshe stared up at the strange Tall One. She could tell that she was being watched by the way the center parts of the Tall One's eyes looked back into hers. As much as her instincts warned her to hide from larger creatures, this one didn't seem to be a threat. In fact, none of the Tall Ones had tried to harm her yet. It seemed as though they were simply there to feed and care for her. Maybe they were her servants or something. If she weren't so sure that it was something like that, this though would have made her laugh.

" Yes." Shouko answered, sitting back and looking up at Eloise. " Even the Sea Turtle has begun to turn humanized. Apparently the Dr. wants the caretakers to gather information to make a hypothesis on how the creatures who live in the water behave.
" She thinks there's a chemical within the water surrounding the island that's causing the humanoid mutations. "
" Arry~ " Fuyumi giggled, splashing about her bright orange tail at the compliments. She was glad to be in contact with more people than Shouko, since Usually being with Shouko consisted of being taught the the TV screen.
" Fuyumi, darling. Come over here to the edge of the glass and see the eel. " Shouko murmured, looking over to the betta. " Perhaps a new friend for you. "

"Mm, 'Arry' indeed." Aeraen looked at the other two full-sized humans in the room, then back at Fuyumi. She skipped to the glass where the Betta's tank connected to the rest of the Community Pool- likely the glass that Shouko was referring to.
"Oh..." Eloise had heard that the fish were changing before. However, she hadn't been told that they were turning into.. mermaids. Or something. She thought it would just mean they might grow faster or larger or become more intelligent. It was difficult to imagine Yshe with human features. Especially a voice. The girl was sure she would hear a lot of begging for food. Ellie dipped a finger into the water and dragged it closer the the glass seperating the salt and fresh water.
Yshe knew this signal and reluctantly followed the finger closer to the glass. Reluctantly, because there was still a Tall Fish behind there. Goodness knew why there was something there seperating them, but the most likely explanation was that the other creature was dangerous. But, if that were the case, why would her "caregivers" put her in danger?
