It felt like it had taken much longer than expected to reach the Pridelands, not that Ujuzi was complaining, but by the time they got there she was certain that she was expecting pups, and she couldn't wait to find a place to make home and hide herself away from the rest of the group.
So, as soon as they'd arrived there she began her search, seeming to settle after much debate. She'd picked the base of a hill, grasses tall, lush and in ample supply to line the den with. The dip between hills hid them from immediate view, making the home more secure, and the proximity of the pack took care of any other safety issues.
It was going to be a large litter, she knew. She couldn't say exactly how many but she'd need to make sure to dig the den large enough. She was just grateful to Haiji for allowing her to take this chance in the first place, seeing as Haiji was the most dominant female in the pack, as alpha. It would certainly help their numbers.
It wasn't wasn't long after that, Ujuzi began tearing grass from the ground where she intended to put the entrance. There was little point in wasting good bedding if she just planned to dig it up anyway. Once she'd cleared a decent sized circle she reached up and out with her paws and began digging, breaking ground easily and keeping at it with dirt flying out behind her.

Haveo's ears perked as he heard the sound of dust and dirt flying into the air. The male blinked. What on earth?
Indigo eyes scanned the pack, noticing their second in command was missing. Was it her that was digging? Haveo quickly turned and went for the source of all the noise.
He was quickly met with dirt to his face. He bent his head low, coughing. He could feel tears coming from his eyes. If he knew someone was digging she shouldn't of gone in the path of flying dirth, of course. Slowly he choked out a, "Ujuzi?"

((It's open, ^ ^ and *fluffs DDB* I know you're still busy, but I wanted to let you know I'll be starting the birthing RP soon, tonight if I can. You're free to join, or not, since newborns might not be the most fun to RP.))

Ujuzi finally stopped her digging to turn, looking to Haveo in mild surprise. She didn't realize he was behind her.
"Oh, my apologies, Haveo. I didn't hear you coming."
The Mhenge pulled further away from her work and shook off her pelt, turning fully to face the hunter with a passive expression. She felt the urge to continue until the task was done, but her body also made it clear that she could stand to stop for a rest. This decided, the female settled onto her haunches, finally aware of how hot this work was.
"I trust the day finds you well?"

Haveo smiled to their Mhenge, comforted with having someone around him. He erased all thoughts of days gone by before they came. "It has. Though I'm curious to why you're working like this in such heat. And alone too." He himself was panting from the heat.
True, ultimately, the burrows would be more beneficial when it became warmer but still it would still be bad for her to get over worked and over heated. He reached a paw up to his ear and scratched furiously to get the dirt loose.

Ujuzi paused, glancing off to the side as if that direction held the answer that Haveo sought, but no voices or actions heraled such information. Instead it came in the form of words from the female herself, calm as any conversation about the most mundane of things as she looked back to him again.
"I'm not sure why, but I do have the urge to do this on my own. I want the den to be prepared by the time the pups come along, though, and I'm not sure yet how many there will be, so I need to make sure I have enough room to work with if it needs to expand later."

Pups? Haveo blinked dumbly. In fact he did so three times. But idly he accepted the fact. Well really it was more of a reason to do better with the hunt. More mouths to feed with less to work on with bringing down the prey. Indigo eyes flashed down towards her belly.
It would be nice to hear little barks of pups. Even if they would crawl, n**, bite, pounce and all sorts of other things to him. A reason to go beyound 100% his best.
he looked back towards Ujuzi and gave her a determined and happy smile. His wagging tail raised some dust as it moved. "I see. Our pack will be expanding quite a bit won't it?"

Ujuzi smiled a bit in return, genuine if not small. "Yes... and if the rumors passing through these lands are true, this will be the perfect place to get them onto their paws."
~Hopefully it will help unify the pack a little further, getting some team effort.~
Though she was a bit concerned about Dafina's reaction to the children. Some of them were bound to be male, and he seemed to definitely have some sort of prejudice towards males. She wasn't sure if that extended towards pups or not. She said nothing of it, however. Haveo had accepted responsibility for the other while the red and white male was on his trial period. Even if Dafina should act out, Ujuzi wouldn't be able to hold it against the gold and black male, she just hoped it wouldn't come to anything drastic.
"I hope that all of you will be alright with the titles of aunt and uncle," She chuckled softly, dipping down to settle onto her stomach, purple eyes roaming back up to Haveo's matching ones. "I'd imagine you'll all be good role models, I thank you in advance for your support, Haveo."

Haveo blinked and then slowly began to chuckle. "Well, I suppose I'll get use to it either way." Thoughts of children floated into his head. It would be...different...being called uncle...instead of saying it. A flashback to a mud caked male who would sniff then growl at him. It was different now though. He looked back at Ujuzi and nodded. "Of course Ujuzi. As you have been here for me, I will be there for you and your little ones. I swear that."

A slight whine of a yawn could be heard as Haiji strolled into view from her doze. But seeing Ujuzi and Haveo covered in dirt and near a deepening hole made her perk up. It was somewhat embarrassing to be seen so relaxed when others were hard at work.
She blinked at the hole before it finally dawned on her. Of course, she remembered from her puphood how her mother had shown her to use old burrows as dens, to keep safe from most dangers.
Looking up at the now known expecting mother she grinned. "Preparing Ujuzi? So you are expecting pups?"

"Thank you, Haveo," Ujuzi smiled faintly again, ears perking to lift atop her head as Haiji made her presence known. The mhenge turned her gaze in the direction of the alpha and offered something between a dry smirk and an amused grin. She was happy to see her friend in good spirits on the matter, glad that the pack in general seemed aimable about the idea, especially Kengee, though. She could recall his reaction very clearly.
((Even though we've yet to RP that, ^.^; *guilt*))
"Yes, Haiji, there are indeed new lives on the way."

Haveo bowed slightly as their alpha entered the scene. He enjoyed watching these two interact. They had such an understanding of each other. A very visible bond. He hoped that he'd have that some day.

Ujuzi's comfirmation only made Haiji smile more in both excitement and wonder. A litter of pups was on it's way! "This will be a great thing! Something to celebrate. Why, it'll be the Hamaji's first birthing since the pack's been reborn." The though made her tail wag and thump the ground in happiness. "The first pack litter in two generations."
She wandered over to touch noses with Haveo, a small contact in greeting. "And you Haveo? How are you? Excited at the prospect of little ones?" She smiled. "I hope you don't mind if I rely on you more with the hunting. Ujuzi will be unable to when the pups are born and we shall need to help provide for her, and them when they are ready for meat."
