ther eis a flaw to your logic nights

the first is that... well to be blunt, Bioengineering is insanley expensive, especially gene sequencing.

think about it.... how much money does it take to engeneer something basic like corn, and how long does it take to adapt and engineer it into a functioning straing

now apply that R&D to something being altered in a way to do something other than it was originally intended to

the cost to develop it will be high, as will the production cost itself..... it will make the price increase for B-DVD look a lot more appealing

the price means that this sort of tech will not be feasable for mass production or market use for quite some time

X'D I was just showing it to people, its not like im support it or anything
just thought it was interesting
ah I see then.

I just wanted to point out that while this idea bears promise.... its cost is quite high in terms of development and production

plus you know about the whole "Holographic" disk tech that is in the works using dual beams (red adn blue)

by the time this is ready the holographic disk will be a more cost affective solution

I would imagine that this Protein Disk will be what comes in either in the generation following B-DVD or possably even the one after that
B DVD [Bio Engineered?] what is it?

no the article NiGHTS posted references a new kind of DVD that uses a bionegenered protein string to store information via a type of photosynthetic reaction

I was stating that the high cost of bioengineering and gene splicing would mean that Blue Ray was actually a more cost affective alternative by comparison

These still hold a thousand times more than blu-ray disks do. They could spend over 10 years on R&D with this technology finding ways to reduce cost and minimize errors... and it'll still be top-of-the-line material when it's first put into use.

Also note that video games aren't the only practical benefit of enhanced technology. Major corporations that want backups of all their work would kill to have every single file every one of their 50,000 employees has ever created to fit on a small bookshelf full of these disks. So they'd be more than willing to front the obscene cost associated with them. Which means the R&D team will confidently carry on their work knowing they'll profit from it.

That would be nice, yes. However, I know many corporations and datacenters would be asking one question: Are they reliable for long term storage ? Capacity will have to take a back seat if reliability comes first. (Which often does in the corporate world.)

Aye, that's a good point. But I'm under the impression 10 years is still long enough for them to handle both cost and reliability.
