around my area...there are things called Crews...either you're in one, and you might be safe once and a while...or you're not in one, and get the crap beat out of you constantly...there are basically three main districts of my area where there are sub-crews in that district. there's newps, mesa, and highside.
once and a while, a disrtict will hold a tournament...kinda like underground fighting...your crew doesn't have to participate, but it's a good idea to. it's basically a tournament consisting of team based competitions, leading up to a one on one fight between the two best crews out of the district. last time, my crew had to go into a different district...into highside, and steal one of their crew's stashes of money...it was hard, but we did it. we won that tournament after getting past cm kings.
i guess this is somewhat extracurricular...
