The Watch is a cooperative effort between the Gaian National Guard and the Gaian Police Department to defend Gaia's most active and influential sites. The brainchild of no one in particular, it starts as a temporary solution to the growing difficulties both agencies face in keeping Gaia safe.

The Watch, partly thanks to the GNG budget cutbacks, and partly thanks to the Gaian Government's classification of the organization as a temporary one, is a "low budget" operation. The Watch HQ is nothing more than a repurposed Fire Department Station with a gated off vehicle pool and runway, situated on the outskirts of Barton. This is fine however, because The Watch's duty is to patrol. All personnel of The Watch are expected to spend most of their time out in "the field", safeguarding their routes from situations like has occured in the Downtown Uprisings. A de-centralized "Watch Tower" (with which most Watch operatives never come in contact with) archives all reports sent to it, and deals with all the administrative details. The GPD and GNG Lieutenants have direct, live datafeeds to this Tower, and utilize the information to deploy their forces more effectively.

OOCly, The Watch, while formed as a temporary measure, will likely be recognized by the Gaian Government as a worthwhile endeavor and be made permanent during the course of the roleplay.

Application - The Watch will be going into other people's RPs, so we need to be sure that the people we send in have well conceived characters that fit our needs. Because of this, you need to submit a separate character only bio to The Watch, even if you're already accepted into the GNG. Use Mr. Highwind's Character Creation Thread to develop your bio.

Equipment, Powers, Accessories - The majority of The Watch's resources are shared: instead of a personal patrol car, you can grab the keys on your way out (if you've got vehicle pool access) to one of The Watch's pool of patrol cars. This is because The Watch has a budget. Only Lieutenants have the capability to bring along their personal vehicles and equipment...and even then they must follow certain guidelines on when they can use them.

High tech equipment, cyberizations, mecha, magical powers, mutant powers, and the like therefore need to be approved separately from the character. For these, We'd like to have the reason why the item is important to the character's integrity, if the accessory has the ability to be turned on/summoned/what-have-you in stages (This is a big plus in integrated-into-you accessories.), what the IC ramifications of allowing this accessory into The Watch are (Is the tech illegal? Is that holy spell going to attract the biggest demon with a sweet tooth in the area whenever it's cast? Will that electrical power totally mess up our hair whenever we walk by?), and whether there will be expensive maintenance (including ammo)/facilities needed.

EDIT: Post your bio submissions HERE 3nodding

Ongoing Event!
Downtown Uprise!
Here comes an old challenger!

Back before the Gaian Army joined with the ASDF and the Gaian Navy, the Gaian Army's purpose was simply to defend Gaian citizens from people who would threaten it. It wasn't just organizations, it was demons and mages, cyborgs and dark elves. When the Gaian Army joined with the ASDF and the Gaian Navy and formed the Gaian National Guard, the combned forces were enough to push back these powerful individuals from the protected territories.

...still, outside the Gaian Army's furthest outpost patrol ranges, these powerful beings still exist. 'Downtown Gaia', as these lawless places are called, are places where might still makes right, where gods and demons battle it out in taverns or in the streets. They have always resented the GNG, resented the taxes imposed upon them by the Gaian Government, and envied the 'Uptown Gaia' way of life: those Gaians who enjoy a life protected by the GNG and lead normal, happy lives.

It's been so long that Uptowners have forgotten how incredibly important the GNG is to their safety. They question why so much money needs to go to military bases that haven't seen combat in so many years. Couldn't that money go to schools, or to repair the occasional pothole in their freeways? What about just plain lessening their tax burden?

And ever so gradually, the politicians began listening. The Gaian Army and the ASDF are the first to feel the budget cuts, and the Downtowners are noticing.
