When the call went out for all men to go below deck, Cerdik paused. He was of age to be considered a man, but would the Siren's song still affect him? He was unsure. When Adencia spoke of 'manly urges' Cerdik could say without a doubt he had not experienced any. He was an oddity in this situation. In the end, it was not the thought of Sirens that urged Cerdik below deck, but the coming fog, and the possibility of a storm. He hated leaving Aranai's side, but he could not very well handle the chill that was carried on the fog, or anything harsher than light rain. So he descended reluctantly, and found himself a hammock to lay in, focusing all his attention now on Felicia, and keeping her content and calm.

Adencia gave a loud peircing whistle and Ekko came flapping to her arm. Walking to the captain's quarters she placed him inside and closed the door. She didn't want him getting lost in the storm. By this time all men were below deck, even Isarelle though it wasn't Garren's hour, just as a safety precaution. It was almost completely silent with the exception of women's heave ho's as they pulled up the sails.

Soon the fog was so thick it was hard to see five feet in front of oneself. Kyna was at the back of the ship, readying to steer the ship through the storm. Adencia found Aranai as the rain began to pur down. "Be ready." she said.

Tanyeera had still been in the kitchen when the call had come for all men to get below deck, but as soon as she heard it, she left her station and made her way above deck, but not before tossing a tiny, multi-coloured ball that swirled and pulsed oddly, on to the kitchen floor. In its midst were smoky words that continuously changed font and colour, but whose message remained the same. "Have gone for a swim. Will be right back. Tanyeera." It would serve a dual purpose of informing the crew of her location should they seek her, and enabling her to find the ship after the storm had subsided.

As she emerged to the scent of brine and fog, she ran a mental check list of any reason she might be required to remain aboard the ship. Her duties? No, no one would be cooking in the midst of a storm. And she wasn't trained in seamanship so she'd be no use above deck anyway. Truly, there didn't seem to be anything for her to do on a ship during a storm... so she could indulge herself, this once, as much as she liked.

Ever since she had had to wall away her emotions, she had been increasingly feeling the stress. Just now, for this moment, it would be a relief to allow herself to be swept away by tide and lightning, to be other than herself, simply a conduit for the most basic, most elemental forces of nature. Not even Darkness could have her if she was not there to be had.

With just the faintest trace of a smile on her face, she stood by starboard and waited for the storm to begin so she could dive.

The bell calling the men below deck woke Thorn from his slumber in the riggings. The dense fog told him he should climb down to safety. Thorn slowly started to decend the rigging to the deck of the ship. By the time he reached to deck the men were all locked below. Tanyeera was perched on the side of the ship so Thorn approached her. "Why my I ask, are you posied to dive? Surely the currents will pull you under and cause you to drown?"

Adencia's voice cut through the tensity of the air as the rain began to slice the currents, each one falling with a small sizzle on Aranai's face and neck. She did not turn to look at the elf, her eyes were transfixed by the sights around her. A faint smile traced her lips.
"Ready?" her voice was almost breathless. "I think I was born for this storm, Adencia. I've never felt more alive!"
Now she turned her shifting orange eyes to the woman standing with her. The look was brimming with more than Aranai could explain. It was as if the storm was awakening an intensity in her soul... uprooting that old timidity and replacing it with something a little more tenacious.
"Have you ever seen such as this? A storm at sea, I mean?"

Adencia's gaze turned cold as she stared out into the water. She slowly nodded and blinked as rain water ran into her eyes. "Yes, I have. Too many storms . . . quite a few too many. And we've lost ten too many men, and I don't plan on losing any more."

"Man your stations! The winds are coming!" the shout rang out and all heard it over the pound of the rain.

And the winds did come. Like a sudden wall rushing at the ship, no breeze before and no warning, only the sharpest of eyes could see them ahead through the haze of rain and fog. A supernatural gale, like a white suqall, only not; an event brought on by the presence of a being disguised as the whistling of the wind for a short while. Sirens.

The swells of the sea became bigger, causing the ship to lurch and roll, turreted by the waves. "Keep in the troughs!" Adencia shouted briefly to Kyna at the aft stearing the ship. Soon the whisteling of the wind grew, but not in the shrieking way of any other winds, but into beautiful cooing and delicate voices.

"I'm resilient," Tanyeera replied. "And I won't be allowed to drown." Just then, the wind snaked aboard the ship like a viper striking prey, hard and fast so it churned the waves to a frenzy. She knew then, that it was time.

Sketching one last, polite bow in Thorn's direction, she dove overboard, the rhythmically pulsing song of the sea filling her ears and her mind far more completely than any siren's song could have.

As the sky roared and the ocean raged, Tanyeera was swept up in the elemental maelstrom, able only to know and revel in their might. She rode waves that rose many stories high, high enough to dwarf any puny little human ships, and she was with them too when they crashed with savage fury back on the ocean floor. As she swam and scythed through wave after wave, skipping and plunging, dancing and diving, frolicking with froth and lightning, her eyes were wild and fey as she whooped and laughed with child-like abandon, allowing herself, for once, to be truly free.

After a time, Cerdik began to snooze in the gently rocking hammock. Felicia slept upon his stomach. The nap was short-lived.

Without warning, the ship was rocked, and the hammock swung wildly. Unaware at first, what was going on, Cerdik simply clung to Felicia and the hammock firmly. The mouse squealed, and quickly relocated. Her chosen safe haven was Cerdik's satchel. It wasn't safe for long.

On the fifth swing, the momentum rolled Cerdik out of the hammock, yet he clung to it even then. He swung twice before his grip gave way, and he fell. He was caught in the hammock beneath his own, and was grateful. His mood quickly changed when the hammock swung, flipped, and dumped him face-first onto the floor. Striking the wood shoved splinters into his lip and chin, and he bit his tongue hard enough to draw blood.

Then the ship rolled, and he began to slide. His first instinct was to grope for the hammock. He grabbed hold just in time, and smiled; it was a small victory in a minor struggle. The sound of metal scraping wood caught his attention and he looked up. The change in slope was turning all sorts of loose items into legitimate health hazards. The ironbound chest sliding toward Cerdik's face was a prime example.

With all the strength he could muster into his shaking arms, Cerdik hoisted himself into the hammock. The chest slid by and chafed his lower back, but otherwise left the young mage untouched. He let out a shaky sigh and rested. It seemed the lower hammocks would be the safest places for now.

Sanquin

Name:
Esmeralda Sanguinious

Age:
looks 16, forgot to keep count in real years.

Curse:
Her curse came with a disadvantage, but also an advantage. The disadvantage being that she constantly craves for souls, and the ability to take them through any kind of wound simply by touching it long enough. She doesn't need them to survive though. The Advantage however, is that her sight was sharpened to what a normal human could only dream of. She can still clearly see in the distance for a good three miles, and hit something from a few hundred feet like it was only ten feet. Lastly, she hasn't aged since she got the curse.

Weapon(s):
A crossbow especially designed for long range. It can accurately reach distances up to three hundred feet, especially custom made for her. It takes a while to load though, so she generally puts all her efford in a single arrow.

Appearance: Note: Not my own image

History:
Esmeralda was thought to be a crossbow sniper from the moment she was born. Every day she'd practice for several hours, perfecting her stance and aim as much as she could. Once she finally achieved her certificate as true crossbow sniper she couldn't have been happier. But this was only a short time of happiness. The countess in her city had forbidden any kind of ranged combat to be thought to anyone as she was afraid of silent assassins. So the countess arranged for a curse to be put on the girl. The curse scared the people around Esmeralda. At first they tried to accept her, but eventually she left on her own will. For the sake of the lives of all the townsfolk, she abandoned them and started to travel around, looking for jobs here and there but never staying long at one place. She was too afraid someone would get injured by her addiction as she called it. Every now and then she was able to take the soul of someone she had to assassinate, but that only rarely happened.

Strengths:
Supreme vision, better than anyone else in the entire land probably. Adept at shooting her crossbow.

Weaknesses:
Her constant craving for souls makes her hesitate any time
she has to kill a human or human-like being. The wounds make the craving only worse. Can't do anything except maybe dodge a few hits in melee.

Quirks:
Talks to her bow like it's a living being. Also hates it when people call her anything but her full name, Esmeralda.

((Okay, so I know I want to keep this going, especially for Sanquin becuase it's unfortunate for someone to join and everything come to a complete stop. What does everyone else want to do? things don't move too well ._. ))

Adencia leapt up into the rigging and helped the crew tie up the sails. One came loose and the elf was there in seconds to pull it up. Kyna had her own battles to fight as she struggled against the pull of the tides on the ships to keep it afloat. But this wasn't the only trouble they would be dealt . . .

The Sirens were now visible, water forms of women; they seemed solid and stood out among the waves but they were a part of the water. And they were striking the ship.

"Kyna!" Adencia shouted, "What do we do?! They're trying to sink us!"

"WHAT?!" Kyna exclaimed, "That's never happened before!"

"It seems they've gotten desperate!"

Kyna's face was livid through the rain and the fog. She seemed in deep contemplation with herself. "Faight back!" she shouted eventually.

"Uhm, not to sound stupid or anything...but how do you hit something that's made out of water ?" Came a voice from behind. Esmeralda was sitting against the post that held the main sail. She wasn't bothered by these dangerous winds and sirens. If it was their time, it was their time. Nothing to change about it. Although it was a bit troubling that her hair kept being blown in her face.

"So...any plans ? Or should Kyle just launch arrows at it hoping it'll work ?" One hand already went to her bow, seemingly stroking the handle as if it was a pet. The girl was eager for some action as the journey with the ship so far had been quite boring up until now for her standards.

Adencia looked back at Esmerelda and pulled her wet hair away from her eyes, tying it back. "You fight water with water!" she called over the roar of the waves and the thunder. "Follow me if you want to help! the rest of the crew is going to have a hard enough time just keeping the ship afloat. Sirens are alive just as sny other creature. They may have different properties about them, but they're not indestructable!"

The elf ran for the bow of the ship, avoiding the crew and slipping on the slick surface of the deck. She didn't wait for Esmerelda, unsure if she was following. "Watch them!" she called to anyone who might be listening, "The Sirens will be consistent, they always are. Watch for their attacks and predict."

Divine Shadows

PostPosted: Tue Jan 15, 2008 8:36 pm

Gaian Username: Divine Shadows

Name: Vincent Cray or ‘Zero Cray’

Age: 27

Curse: Vincent has the curse known as the ‘Frozen Touch’ and it prevents him from touching any living creature or risk freezing it solid from the inside out. In order to keep his curse from accidentally killing someone when he bumps into them, he must wear white gloves with negation seals on the backs that prevent such a thing from happening and hold his full power at bay. The curse gives him the power manipulate ice based attacks by controlling the water particles in the air and can use it at his free will, but if he takes off the gloves, the temperature in the surrounding area’s temperature will drop to 0 degrees K causing everything in sight will freeze solid. The ice he makes is stronger than steel and does not melt or break with ease. He can also slightly freeze all the water particles in the air to create a thick mist. Lastly he can survive in extremely freezing climates with out so much as a shiver, and can also survive in blazing heat by cooling down his internal body temp.

Weapon(s): Vincent uses a Niya Bow that he keeps on his back, but he doesn’t have a quiver. He also uses a Scottish Claymore, which he keeps strapped to his left hip and is well trained in its deadly uses. He can use his powers to coat his bow and sword in vicious ice crystals, and he can create deadly ice arrows from the surrounding water partials in the air, which is why he never bothered to buy a quiver or arrows.

Appearance: Vincent stands at around 5’ 11” and weighs around 193 lbs. He has the build of a well-built fighter, but has a slim body that gives him his agility and speed. His skin is pale white like the snow he controls, but has a slight tan to it. His hair is completely white not gray, but pure white, and is set in a semi spiky fashion. The color of his eyes are a soft blue that almost fade into his iris, because they are so light Vincent wears a long blue and white cloak that is open at the front to reveal a blue under shirt with two intersecting perpendicular lines. He wears white pants with blue strips racing vertically on the sides. On his feet he wears a set of white shoes. He carries a silver round locket around his neck that is beautifully decorated. He also wears a set of white gloves, and on the back is a negation seal embroidered in blue and on his right ring finger he keeps a ring; his family crest a blue and silver lion. He carries a Niya Bow on his back and a 4’ 7” Scottish Claymore on his left hip.

History: Vincent was a member of the House of Cray, his noble family. When he was a child Vincent was sheltered inside the manor for fear that enemies may try and kidnap him, so he learn little of the outside world, and what he did learn was from out dated text books. He was how ever taught how to fight with a sword and a bow. Over the years Vincent became a skilled fighter and marksman with the help of the finest tutors available, but he lacked the one thing that defined a Cray, great magical ability. When a Cray’s ability showed itself they were given a title based upon their magical skill, but since Vincent had none, his brothers gave him the title of ‘Zero Cray’ a title that stuck even with his parents. One day, Vincent was sick of being tormented by his older brothers, and pleaded with his father to take him with him on his journey to the capitol. At first the lord declined, but after hours of begging and pleading he gave in and let the boy come along with him this one time. Vincent was terribly excited to see what it was like outside of the manor, he watched as the frosty scenery passed by, it was late winter and their were still patches of snow on the ground. He watched happily as his breath hung in the air. Then the carriage stop and his father in frustration leaned out the window and called to the driver, this was the moment that still had Vincent waking up in a cold sweat. When his father leaned out to see what the commotion was a crossbow bolt hit him in the chest and he feel limply from the carriage. Stunned Vincent sat frozen with fear, immobilized. He started to make his way over to his dying father, when he reached him, the lord pulled Vincent in close and handed him the Family crest and a pair of white gloves that the lord wore all the time. Then the Lord fell still and a brilliant white flash illuminated the area as the curse was passed from father to son. Vincent started to fell very cold, but it was not from the cold winter day, or his fathers passing. It was a cold that came from inside, Vincent had been cursed with the ‘Frozen Touch’ a secret passed down from generation to generation. The men who had attacked now began to rush the area, but the moment they got close they all turned to frozen statues. In horror Vincent fled not knowing what he had become. In a terrible turn of events, Vincent was thought to be the one who had kill the Lord and is now banished from his lands.

Strengths: Vincent is a strong agile young man with noble blood ties that tend to play in his favor. He also has strong ice magic that is unmatched by any mortal human.

Weaknesses: If the air is to dry Vincent’s attacks tend to become weaker and if he is submerged in water he can’t use his power without risk of freezing himself along with it. He also tends to have bad nightmares that cause him to lose focus.

Quirks: Vincent is also a master of hand-to-hand combat, so even if he loses his weapon, he’s still not defenseless. Vincent also has a vapor trail that flows constantly from his mouth even when it’s hot out side.

((yeah I know really fricken long, no need to point))
