What -
Hadrian gazed back, unsure of what Marc wanted - was trying to do. There was no hint in his expression, no words spoken - just contact. Physical body and gaze.
So he simply met that gaze with his own steady one, content with their bodies touching. For a short time he did that, no questions or comments from him, or moves to change anything.
Then, he offered a slight smile down to his lover. Whatever else - he had to admit, for all of Marc's faults, and all the problems they had...Hadrian loved him. There was just something about the man that drew him in, kept him fascinated and gave him warmth just by being around him.
Then he lowered his head, landing a soft kiss on those lips, and murmured his thoughts.
"...love you."

Marc sighed in response to his. He realxed, tension leaving his body and then, slowly, he wrapped his hands around that face, keeping it close, closer than maybe it should have been.
"Me too." he murmured, words lost as he claimed another kiss. He pulled him down, one leg wrapped around one of Hadrian's. Usually he liked to be on top, he was fine with this. It was... well. It was okay.
He just wanted to get closer.
He wanted to touch, taste, feel. He wanted to ignore the man who had walked in and tried to take everything away. He wanted to forget.
Except it was hard. And it must have shown, the feverish response, the heat, the tension, as if somehow, if they could both get past this point, Marc would be able to accept everything else.
Maybe it would work.

Hadrian rested with his head on Marc's chest, watching the clock. It was dark, but his eyes had adjusted well enough to see that it was very late...three in the morning.
So why was he still awake?
He was comfortable, had certainly expended energy - but...something was bothering him. He didn't know what, but it was something teasing at the edge of his mind, and he couldn't seem to figure out what it was. But it was keeping him awake.
Maybe it was because of earlier...but no, that couldn't be it.
Deciding to get something to drink, the mage carefully slid away from Marc - doing his best to keep from waking him. Even if he had to be up this late, there was no reason Marc had to be as well.
Stepping into the kitchen, he poured himself some water to drink. And, taking a sip of it, leaned against the counter; he kept the room dark, but if anyone had been able to see his expression, they likely would have said he was brooding. And in a way, he was.

He knew the moment Hadrian left because the weight suddenly disappeared from his chest. Actually, while he wasn't a very light sleeper, there was something about this night that meant he couldn't really fall asleep. Usually, doing what they did with this amount of heat would have been enough to have him sleep until the next morning. Until someone called, or something invasive. But tonight...
Well. That was different.
Getting up, he reached down for his trousers, something to put on, when he heard the movement behind him. Turning his head to the kitchen, it was too dark for him to see what Hadrian was doing, but enough for him to know the mage was there.
"Can't you sleep?" His voice was quiet, pitched as low as a whisper without the sly edges, and as he tugged on his trousers again, he sat there, hair rumpled and eyes dark.
"Hadrian." he leaned back on the sofa, closing his own eyes as he bought his hand to his hair. He remembered what Thorn had said. Having seen Hadrian have naked already? He remembered the heat that had pulsed through him, and how it had been so easy to turn it to lust.
"This... is too complicated."

"Getting some water."
Feeling a slight smile tug at his lips at hearing Marc speak, that smile faded as soon as the man continued.
And with the next few words, it was fear clutching at him rather then warmth. Marc couldn't be - he couldn't be doing what he thought was doing. Couldn't.
"Marc..." the worry in his voice, the bit of fear growing in it - obvious signs that he knew, or at least thought he did, where his lover was going with this.
But what could he say?
"It's...it's complicated, yes. But..."
It was worth it. To him, at least - but was it to Marc?
Turning, he stared over the counter at the shadowy sillhouette of the other man. His hand was clenched around the glass, as if trying to use it to keep Marc from speaking further - from saying what he dreaded.

"I can take it, I think." he got up, moved towards Hadrian but avoided body contact as he went for the fridge. He drank alot, because he had buisness at night, and parties to attend. But with Hadrian, he seemed to drink even more, as if somehow the alcohol would make sense.
"I don't like Thorn. He'll always be a problem between us."
And it was true. He knew his boss. That man wouldn't give up anything, not once he decided he wanted it. Marc wasn't prepared to lose his mage to a man who made more money and had more women then he did. (Insecurities, much?)
Ah, there it was. Whisky always made the world better.
"What do you want to do?"
About what? It was an easy statement, easier to say than "I want to" or "I can't". And it was easier to say this as he stood next to Hadrian, as if they were buddies discussing the next match, day, instead of the next few days.
"I like us."

Marc was going to give him a heart attack one of these days.
And Hadrian would certainly hope Thorn had more women then Marc. Because Marc had better not have any women.
With a few words, all the tension drained out of his body once more. Damned if Marc didn't scare him right then, and he shot his lover a slightly grumpy glance that went unnoticed in the dark. Was that neccessary, scaring him like that?
But with a quiet sigh, he let go of that and answered.
"You scared me for a moment, there..." Spoken softly, he tilted his head in the direction of the other man, "...I like us, too. I don't want that change for anything."
But...well, things could get better. But they couldn't get better by not being a couple, that was what Hadrian thought.

With whisky bottle in hand, he leaned across until his head touched the other man's shoulder. It was not such a familiar body, yet. Marc didn't know every inch of that flesh, but he knew enough to want to hold on to it for a while longer. No matter what that big shot man did or tried to do.
"I mean." he grinned. "We're amazing in bed."
Alright. It wasn't the most important point. But it was very, very high on the list. And besides, what was he going to go without Hadrian? He'd be...
well.
Lonely.
"But it's too hard."
It was true.
Taking another sip and feeling the heat in his throat, he nodded, agreeing to whatever it was he wanted to agree with. "Hadrian." he said, seriously. "We need to make things more official."
See? Alcohol always gave you the right answers.

Hadrian couldn't hold back the surprised, but amused laugh at Marc's comment. It was true - but he honestly hadn't expected to hear that right then.
And as Marc rested his head on his shoulder, it was almost with an unconcious gesture that he slid out his arm to wrap around the other man.
Official?
"What do you mean by official?"
Blinking at Marc, he honestly was puzzled. By 'official', he got a mental image of card type things being sent to people, stating that they were together. But that was...well, strange.
So what did his lover mean?
Though...it was hard, yes. And he didn't know how to make it easier...but maybe - maybe Marc knew something that would.

It was comfortable, like this. They had problems, and while Marc wasn't used to having problems, this was his first relationship with a man like Hadrian. Someone so awkward with certain aspects of life, and so easy to fluster. Rubbing his fingers down the small of Hadrian's back in a nervous gesture, he smirked.
"I'll meet your friends, and have them fall in love with me. And you can meet my friends. And, I know your work is here, and my apartment isn't big enough for the both of us... but you can move some stuff into mine. And to my other house." his eyes were gleaming with amusement.
Later perhaps, the more official thing.
But he wasn't too prepared to deal with Thorn on that issue yet. And he wanted to wait. He'd never asked so bluntly, before. But he didn't want to wait, to chance the other man from ruining things even more.

Peering through the dark at his lover, Hadrian felt a smile creep up on his face. This...sounded good. He hadn't been expecting it, honestly - but Marc was right. That would make it seem more official, and...
Well, he'd still have his flat if they had an argument and he wanted to sleep elsewhere for the night. There were bound to be future arguments after all, both of them were too stubborn to not have them.
"I think I would like that. Though truthfully, my friends are not a particularly high number; the other mages, and I believe one of the younger guardians."
Natalie - he wasn't quite sure if she counted as a friend just yet, but they were on the track to friendship.
He really needed to be more social. It was sad when the only people he spent any time with were his lover, someone who was trying to get him in bed, his workmates, and one friend.

Marc smiled. Taking a swig of the whisky, he moved around so that he was standing in front of the mage, legs just slightly apart. "So, it's a deal, then?" he asked, smiling slightlly. It was too dark for him to see Hadrian's face clearly from this position, but it didn't matter. Light would have ruined the moment. Moving away to react, would have ruined the moment.
Lifting the bottle to his lips again, he held a touch worth of it in his mouth, and leaned in for another kiss. See? They were so good at this.
A part of Marc's mind couldn't believe what he had just done. Another tried to justify that it wasn't anything. It was hardly worth agonizing over. But it was something, and while it wouldn't solve everything, Marc freverently hoped it would.
That it would solve, everything.

Whatever the two of them may wish, it likely would not be the cure for all their problems. But - Hadrian hoped - it would help. They couldn't as easily hide away from each other when arguing, after all...
And he hardly ever spent the night alone in his apartment anymore anyway.
"Deal." Murmured with warmth, Hadrian met Marc's lips with his own.
He could taste the alcohol...briefly, the green eyed man wondered if it was possible to become intoxicated off of his lover, then dismissed it as fanciful. If it was anyone else, that taste may have bothered to him; but it was Marc.
It just seemed right, somehow.
