Is it not obvious? Cloud was not born with it, because that would be silly, and there is not enough Hair Gel in the world to support it! There was a one of a kind Mystery Materia passed down Cloud's family for an eternity, and one day, someoen would be able to use this Materia. One day, Cloud, with his boring hair at 3 years old was poking his mothers cabinet of expensive stuff, important stuff, and Dinner plates that are never used, when the Materia, along with several plates, fell down, the Materia immediatley being absorbed into his head, and the plates breaking on the ground. When he woke up the following day, he had this Uber-cool hair. THE END.

I say he had an afro..then he stuck his head up and lawnmower, luckily he didn't get hurt when he was little.
