Wow, Melee FC6 was a blast. I fufilled my quota of not being the worst player there. In fact, My friend and I were both really close to making it into the second round of the singles tournament!

But there was a lot of ownage to be seen at the scene.

I was asked to type up a deely about it for my friend to put on his website, so I think I'll just coy and paste it right here.

Melee FC6: 229 Enthusiasts, One Church
By Phillip Leffel

June 13 through 15, three days that will forever be remembered in the hearts of my companion and I.

It all started on Wed., July 12th at 1:37. We had just picked up Jim Mohler and started on our would-be 10 hour drive to South Bend, IN. At around 7:00, we stop in a town called Davenport and check in to our hotel. We then walk over the The Shed and eat a bunch of ribs (I had more than Jim).

The next morning at six, we wake up and get ready for the day and are out on the road again before eight o-clock. We arrive in South Bend at approximately 12:53 and wait in a line for roughly 20 minutes and get signed in. We go back out and grab our stuff, saying good bye to my parents and enter our three-day haven.

As we wait for everything to start, we rummage up some matches against some fairly good guys. When the team tournament starts at 3:30, we get beat by all 5 of the other teams in our pool. Needless to say, we got to walk around and watch the other matches being played after that.

Supper arrives and we are near the front of the line. After finishing our pizza, we are able to find an open TV and do some one on one until the team tournament starts up again.

At about nine, the regional crew battles (each crew consisting of 10 people) start and we stand in the mass of a crowd and witness the destruction of the Midwest (which we weren’t a part of) get destroyed by the East Coast.

A couple more matches like that commence, being shown on the big screen TV screens high up on a wall of the gymnasium for all to see. There was some serious ownage going on there.

We go to sleep around 2 in the morning and I wake up at 10 with the wake-up call. I go down and get my breakfast (doughnuts) and head back up to the balcony and wait for Jim to wake up.

After everyone has eaten, the regular crew battles start (these crews only had on average, 5 people). Jim and I were able to watch a lot of these because we didn’t have enough people for a crew.

After a late lunch, the singles tourney starts. I get put in the third round of pools and Jim gets put in the fourth (Yay! We got to watch each other’s matches!). My pool had six people in it, but I could only beat one of the people in it, making my record 1-4. Jim’s had seven and he beat two people, making him 2-4.

Unfortunately, only the top 4 from each pool advanced. Needless to say, we were disappointed, so we tried to find some other guys to play and get our minds off of it.

A Super Smash Bros. for N64 tournament was held that night for the first 32 people to enter and pay a dollar towards the prize money. Jim and I both got in and advanced to the second round. Well, my opponent didn’t show up for the first round, so I got a by...

That went late into the night and Jim started to get delusional and I had a hard time figuring him out. But when he lost the second round match, he went to sleep, and I did the same shortly afterwards.

The next morning, We watch the finals of the crew tournament and the team tournament. The team matches were amazing. There was a surplus of ownagification. We were happy.

Some more of the singles tournament was played out until there were only 32 players left. We played some random matches and then we had to get going, because we wanted to get back to our hotel at a reasonable time, and my parents were there to pick us up. We said our final goodbyes (to a french guy that totally owned us earlier that day) and left.

We got back to Davenport and got the EXACT same room that we stayed at on Wednesday night. We woke up about seven and got on the road about nine. We got back to town about 3:30 and finally went our seperate ways again.
