There's a guy named Andrew who's 26 years old and sick and tired of life. He has no girlfriend, no money, no job or anything. He only has his family, which he loathes. Anyway, his father dies suddenly of a heart attack. Andrew has to meet his whole family and relatives for the funeral. At the funeral all relatives as well as his family starts discussing what a failure Andrew is, and that's what makes Andrew snap. He jumps up on a table, screaming his frustration out at his relatives, ending with the phrase "...and if I could, I'd leave this place and NEVER come back!". This, of course, is the turnpoint of the story.

Andrew wakes up as from a bad dream in a egg-like slimy, green chamber. He hears the words "he's awake!" outside. He has waken up at an alien research center and finds out he's the last survivor of a savage human tribe they found. The aliens were surprised that he had learned their language so easily (english is an alien language). They had found him and drugged him down. All those 26 years had just been a long dream. They tell him that he really hadn't been asleep for more then a week. Now he has to live on this research center and try to adjust himself to the new environment, learn about how the REAL humans behave (he's an exception) and slowly regain the memories of how he lived before he was captured.
