It was early morning in the pridelands, the sun only just beginning to shake the night's cold out of the land, it's weak rays seeming lighter than those seen during the day. It was around this time every day that Vitashki woke up, stepping out of the den and off on her own for a bit. She often did so, showing a predisposition to solitude that neither of her parents seemed to display. She was an oddity, feeling different from her sister and brother, not having received the same green colouration as they had. Her colours were odd, some of them nothing like the ones her father had, especially the almost neon blue tracings across her cheek and back.
It was puzzling. If they didn't come from her mother or father, then from where? She had an idea but it was one too worrying to dwell on. But would her father lie?
There were a lot of mysteries that the blue female was preoccupied with, silly things that seemed to niggle at her. Like who it was her father became after sundown. She had spoken to him once or twice at night, only to find that gone was the frivolous and often irritating playfulness, replaced by a sarcastic and rather snappy nature. He had said things then that made her worry. Told her of a god, a dark blue lunatic who shared her colouration and even the blue markings whose origin she deliberated.
He was her grandfather.
She was related by blood to a god? A creature of legend? The thought made her grin. And here she was thinking she was inferior to her siblings when it was quite the opposite, she was blessed, blessed to look like her grandfather. She had heard how nasty he was, how he'd ruthlessly kill her on sight.
But that only made her want to meet him more, see the lion whose blood ran through her veins. As a cub, death didn't seem like the weighty danger it really should have.
It was for this reason she woke early every day, making her way down to the waterhole in some sort of vain hope he'd be there.

Jini was not really an adventurous cub, nor was he the type to go out looking for trouble. He wasn't the restless type like all the others in his family either, allowing him to stay in the same spot for hours upon end without doing anything in particular and holding a great contentment. He had been born into a family of hot-heads and yet he seemed to have no temper to speak of. He was an oddity as well, except for that Jini never thought of it that way. He never questioned why he was different.
Mosi had gone off again, as per usual, and he had crept off to the watering hole. He loved it here for there was always shade from the hot sun during the afternoon and interesting animals seem to flock to its banks. He could sit and watch creatures ranging from bright pink birds to huge gray mammoths. But most of all he enjoyed watching the small fish darting around under the water's surface. It was a small habit he had picked up as a cub and continued. Why not, when it was such a nice pass time?
Today he rested on a small rock, peering down at the water for any signs of the fish he liked to observe. However, there didn't seem to be any moving at this part of the watering hole at this hour. He felt a little put out, smiling sadly, but didn't move or complain. Instead he twisted to watch the morning sunlight.
He was completely unaware someone might come down here seeking nothing less then a god.

Vit made her way down to the waterhole at her usual easy pace, her strides less graceful than most cubs, her form not really lending itself to sleek movements. As she stepped down from the grassy banks to the water's edge, she looked around, brown eyes scanning frantically for that splash of blue that would signal the creature she sought.
But her heart sank as she saw nothing. Nothing other than a lion slightly older than her, looking into the waters. He wasn't exactly what she was looking for but at least he was another soul to talk to. After all she had come down here for solitude originally but dissapointment made her want to have someone to take her frustrations out on.
She made her way over to Jini, tail flicking.
"Hey. You. You haven't seen any big blue lions around here have you?"

Jini looked up, startled by the sudden company. He blinked his green eyes at her, sliding off his perch clumsily into the grass. Quickly he rolled over, shaking off stray grass stalks and leaves and pulling his head back into view. His ears flickered back and he offered a sheepish smile to her. "Ah...um...blue....lions...?" his voice faultered in confusion. He hadn't even heard of blue lions, let alone seen any. At least, not until she showed up.
He quickly collected himself, not wanting to be rude. Though his speech still seemed cluttered from being caught unawares, "Ah...well no! I'm very sorry...you're the first I've seen...I'm uh...I'm Jini! Who're you?" He hoped he didn't sound too silly, but he couldn't help it.
