More adventures with Dee

Procyon slipped out of her room, shutting the wooden door behind her carefully and as quietly as possible. She had been feeling restless all cooped up in her room, and had decided that it was time to have some fun. Walking quickly down the hallway, she sidled up next to Dionaea's door.

She knocked quickly on the door, and waited for an answer, hoping her friend would be there. Dionaea was the perfect exploring partner, and the two of them together had the skills of a perfect rogue. It was time to learn a bit more about the history and Fey of the Moon Court.

The flutter of wind and feet against stone made Dionaea jerk up from her book. Someone heavier than she'd heard previously was lurking outside her door. She could not tell who it was, for they made no vocalization. But still, just to be safe, the flytrap crept up to the door and whispered.

"Who is there?"

Hearing movement inside the room, Procyon was relieved to hear the whisper from Dionaea. Her ears twitched a bit as she listened, knowing that Dee was very cautious about people coming to her door.

"Dee, it's me, Procyon. Open up...I have an idea for you." Smiling to herself, Procyon could imagine Dionaea sitting in her room for hours, just listening to the sounds around her. She then wondered if Dionaea had grown up too...certainly she'd be a beautiful teenager.

Yes, yes, of course! Her wonderful friend Procyon! She had grown up so suddenly, had her raccoon friend done so as well? Opening the door, anxious to see Procyon again, Dionaea stepped out. Gasping at Procyon's beautiful growth, she congratulated the other Fey.

"Procyon, you grew too! You look fantastic!"

As the door opened to her, she hardly recognized the lovely young woman who was standing in front of her. Of course the hair was familiar, as well as the markings, and it dawned on her that it was in fact Dee.

"Well my lord, you sure have filled out! You're gorgeous!" She smiled at her friend, and opened her arms to hug her. Though it hadn't been too long, Procyon was amazed at how quickly they both had become teenagers. "I think this is quite improved over our kid appearances. At least now we can get around more easily. Can I come in?"

She motioned to the inside of the room, wanting to be somewhere a bit more secretive when she decided to reveal her ideas to Dionaea. She'd spent a long time thinking as of late, and was curious about the Court in which she was growing up. It was time to gather some information, and Dee was perfect to accompany her in this mission.

Dionaea gladly returned the hug. It was wonderful to see that her best friend in all the the Moon Court had been going through the same changes as she. Procyon would know exactly how it felt to suddenly grow and not know what was going on. But the sound of a plan made Dee want to conspire as well. "Please, Procyon, make yourself at home. What kind of a plan do you have?"

The venus flytrap Fey cleared off her bed, which was littered with books and assorted gifts her Kithain had given her. When it was clear, Dionaea motioned Procyon to sit.

Procyon felt even closer to Dee now that they were teens. She knew she could trust Dee with all her secrets, and her life for that matter. She would be the perfect companion for her adventures, but only if Dionaea agreed to such things. That part would probably take the most convincing.

"Thanks!" she said, crossing the room and sitting down on the now cleared bed. She couldn't help but glance at all of the objects that had been there before Dionaea had swept them away. "Looks like your kithain came recently," she giggled, taking a closer look at the objects. "Mine stops by to give me things sometimes too. She acutally has come through with something quite fabulous." She reached for the sheath that was now strapped to her calf, and pulled out the dagger that Sizzla had gotten made for her. It was perfect for Procyon: It had a leather-wrapped handle, with fur coming off of the crossguard. The blade was very sharp, and tribal markings had been carved into it in black.

"It's perfect isn't it? I absolutely love it. My kithain sure knows how to make a girl happy." She giggled a bit again, turning the blade over in her hand. After she'd gotten enough of looking at it (she did this often, ecstatic with the gift), she resheathed it, and scooted over on Dee's bed, sitting indian style facing her friend.

"Well, I've been thinking that we need to find out more about the Moon Court. I'm quite curious about our history and our feud with the Sun Court. We were trapped in the windows when we were very small, so I don't have much memory of what happened before...All I can recall is my time in the window..."

She looked Dionaea in the eye, as serious as she could be when typically she was a fairly bubbly girl. "Shall we find out more? Have you heard anything through the castle walls as of late? I never see anyone around...The castle seems so lonely."

Dionaea cast her eyes over the glorious dagger Procyon's kithain had given her. Indeed, it did seem quite perfect for Procyon. It even had a tuft of fur that matched Procyon's in every way. The gifts her Kithain had given her were not weapons, but useful nontheless.

"Yes, I agree. I would like to know more about our origins, as well as the source of our hatred towards the Sun Court. While I've been in my chambers, I did manage to discover that there are three more females and one or two males still in the castle. Far away, but they are there. Older than us, most of them are. Only one still has a hint of adolescence in her voice..."

That was all the information she could gather by herself. She's never tried sneaking around on her own. But with Procyon there, anything was possible. She gave a bright smile. "So, Procyon, when do we leave?"

"I'm ready whenever you are," Procyon smiled, excited about their potential adventure. "What kind of preparations do you think we may need to take? I'm just not sure of the people here...or what their intentions are. I feel suspicious for some reason, but maybe that's because I don't know anyone but you, 'Phiti and Pteryx."

Procyon thought about Dionaea's careful assessment of the others within the castle walls. "I think I'd like to meet them, and possibly ask them questions. Have any of the voices seemed more friendly than the others? Maybe we should start there...I'm not sure if I'm ready for any major confrontation..."

Standing up, Procyon stretched, still a bit weary from her long night's sleep. She was feeling energized and refreshed, and was ready for a bit of reconnisance.

"Shall we?" she turned to Dee, motioning for her to prepare as well. "We shall get a move on as soon as you're ready."

Dionaea stood and walked next to her partner in crime. Thinking about Pteryx and Mephiti, she wondered if they grew as well. Seems to odd that they had not seen anyone in such a long time.

"There is one voice I do not trust; one voice that filled me with fear. A female, older woman. I get the distinct feeling that she is not to be trusted, despite our being form the same court. But, regardless, meeting everyone sounds like a wonderful idea. Do you remember where the other chambers are, or should we sneak like we used to?"

Dionaea gave a short giggled, remembering her waddling days behind Procyon, so strong and graceful. And the candlesticks.

"Aah, could the woman be a traitor? Let's hope the Moon Court is strong and smart enough to know of this woman's intentions...We don't need anyone else causing trouble within the court. That could only lead to problems, and it seems that we need to be united...for something, though I'm not quite sure what. We need to find out more about the Sun Court and the tension between the two."

Pulling the wooden door open, Procyon stepped out into the hallway. "Well, we probably don't need to sneak around too much...We're out for information gathering, right? Maybe the sneaking around will come in handy if we hear something. But until then, let's just walk down the hallways and see what we can find. I've barely been out of my room, so I'm not quite sure where everyone and everything is."

Motioning for Dee to walk next to her, Procyon was ready to go...

Dionaea gladly followed Procyon down the hall. They'd make an unbeatable pair, she thought, what with a spy and a thief. She wasn't sure if the woman she had heard was a traitor or not. Perhaps she was just more...devoted to the Moon Court than the rest of them.

"I do hope we run into Mephiti or Pteryx again. I'd love to see them. Where do you think they could have gotten to? The castle cannot be that big..."

Procyon nodded, also curious as to the whereabouts of 'Phiti and Pteryx. "Perhaps they are in their chambers..." she pondered wondering which direction to go first. "Hey Dee, do you have any idea where the other Fey reside? We probably shouldn't to bursting through people's doors...It seems a bit rude." She giggled, picturing the scene in her mind. Procyon would pick the lock, and it wouldn't budge. So she'd throw her weight up against it, with Dee helping her out. As the door fell open, she could only see the pair falling into a heap on the ground. It was a funny thought, but she would rather not proceed like that.

"Where have you heard the voices coming from? Maybe we can track them down that way? I'd really like to meet some of the older Fey. Maybe they can give us some history of the Court. I would like to get as much information as possible...Being informed is a good thing."

The pair continued down the hall, Procyon's eyes darting back and forth, scanning the path and doorways for any signs of life. The castle was dark and dim, and it didn't seem like anyone lived here.

"I think we are going the correct way. Most of the voices came from this direction, though some were further away than others. You have such a good sense of direction, Procyon! I think Phiti's chambers were this way... I wonder how she's doing?" After a moment, she also thought of someone she'd like to meet - Mistress Nox. Her Kithain told her the story of her reawakening, and Mistress Nox was there to release her. Dionaea wondered where her chambers must be.

She took a few steps forward and asked Procyon as well. "Do you remember a woman named Nox, Procyon?"

"Good, well, then I suppose we'll keep going this way until you hear something. I'd have to say that my hearing isn't nearly as good as yours...I'm practically deaf compared to you!" Her voice echoed down the hallway, and she couldn't help but wonder if there were others around listening to them talk. Why didn't anyone come out and greet them? Were those of the Moon Court secretive? Were they unfriendly? Dee was certainly friendly, as well as 'Phiti. And Pteryx was nice too...She couldn't help but wonder what the others were like...

Nox. Why did that name ring a bell in her head? She couldn't quite recall the woman's face, but she could remember her long black hair. She was only a baby when she had met Nox, and Procyon sometimes felt it was difficult to remember her childhood. "Well, the name certainly is familiar. I believe my kithain also met the Majestrix when I was released from the window. The only thing I remember about her was her beautiful hair..." Procyon tried harder to put a face with the hair, but she couldn't. She imagined that the woman was very beautiful though, as she was the leader of the Moon Court from what Procyon understood.

Dionaea smiled. "I may hear better, but you have much better eyes, Procyon." The flytrap fey continued to follow Procyon down the corridor. She was listening, but nothing save for echoes came to her ears. Where was everyone? The silence was all but unnerving...

Dionaea had to be honest. "Procyon... do you sometimes wonder if... if we are alone in the castle? If what I have been hearing have been nothing but hallucinations?" She sometimes sat alone in her room, wondering if she was only hearing things.

Procyon smiled at Dee. "Yeah, I suppose you're right on that regard. I think it'd be nice to be able to hear better though. Maybe one day you can teach me your secrets." She giggled a bit, and continued down the stone hallway, hearing only the sound of their feet plodding along the ground.

"Hallucinations?" she asked, curious if this was really what Dee believed. "Do you really think we're here all alone? Surely Pteryx is around. I mean, we did meet her before. And of course 'Phiti has to be here somewhere. It's not like we imagined meeting them..." She thought about the potential of this for a minute, but shook her head. Procyon was a realist, and most of the time, she believed what she saw. The people she'd met seemed real enough. "Nah, I think they're real. It's just a matter of finding them."

They came to the end of the corridor, and it turned left, so Procyon decided to follow the path. After all, it was good to get out of her chambers. She had been curious about the castle, and this was as good a chance as any to explore the grounds. "Do you think we'll see any of the older Fey?"

"I hope we can meet older Fey. I have so many questions. Why are we here? What is our purpose? I know I heard older Fey somewhere in the castle, but it seems like they might be hiding from us or something..."

Walking along being Procyon, she wondered. Were they hiding? And where was the Mistress Nox? She was sure they were around here someplace. Even if they didn't find the older Fey soon, there was always the library. Or the outdoors, too. So there was something for the both of them to do...

"Where do you suppose everyone has gotten to?"

"I dunno Dee," Procyon replied, glancing down the hallway where they'd come from, wanting to see if they were being followed at all, or if there was some sign of life behind them. "It seems no one is interested in coming out at least. Maybe they're all recluse?"

Continuing to think about her desire to meet the older Fey, she scanned the dark halls for any sign of movement. Nothing. The halls were empty, and there were few adornments on the walls. "Maybe we should head outside and explore the grounds," she suggested, hoping Dee would be willing to go. "I've not been outside the castle walls at all. I think it would be good for my training to at least get a good idea of the lay of the land." Nodding her head resolutely, she headed for the staircase at the end of the hallway. "Are you coming with?" she asked as they reached the top of the stairs.

Procyon's Journal

Oh, how I have nothing to do! I haven't seen anyone for days, and though I know Dee is around, I'm sure she's attending to her thoughts, and listening for any strange happenings in the castle. I can't help but pace my room, and look out the windows. The forest below seems appealing, but dark...I'm not sure it would even be safe to go out into the woods. It's just that lately, I've been getting this feeling...as if I need to reclaim my freedom.

My Kithain brought me a beautiful dagger, and I've been practicing with it. I have crafted a target that I've hung on the wall...It's a nightshirt, stuffed with straw, and I throw the dagger at it, aiming for the place where one's heart would be. You never know what kind of creature you will encounter here, and though I mean no harm to those of my Court, I am a bit concerned about our rivals of the Sun. I do not know much about them, for the only people I know are those who are my own age. They know as much about the Sun Court as I do, which frankly, isn't very much. I feel the need to seek out more information, and I think that will be my next step.

Perhaps exploring the lower levels of the castle will allow me to bump into an older Fey...I rarely trek down there, but I think it may be for my own good...

I cannot wait for the end of winter. The cold wind leaks through the cracks in my chambers, and in the dead of night, when I am asleep and cozy under the furs of my bed, I can feel icy breezes playing in my hair. Perhaps I should leave the fire burning bright all night long, to prevent this. I would rather not become ill from poor insulation. And there is always the option of stuffing the visible cracks. That may actually be more effective.

I've been reading more as well, and my skills are becoming better. I can finally get through an entire page, which used to take me hours. It's amazing what can be found in books. I've never had much interest in the printed word, but I do appreciate what knowledge books offer. You can find out so many things from the printed word...Perhaps I shall take up reading as a hobby once I become more proficient in it. We shall see, I suppose.

Well, that is about all for me. I think I'll go out and explore now...Seems like an appealing adventure. I just wonder if Dee would like to come as well? Maybe this time, I'll go by myself...

The Black Widow

Pacing up and down the length of her room tapping a finger against her cheek, Procyon was wearing dents in the stone floor of her chambers. She'd been feeling antsy, as if something should be happening...but nothing was. There were no sounds in the halls, and it had been days since she'd even seen her best friend Dee.

So, she decided that it was time to get out.

Tucking her dagger into the sheath she'd crafted from black leather, she buckled it around her thigh, now feeling prepared for anything. Perhaps she'd leave the castle for a bit, and go roaming around in the forests that she saw outside her window. A cool wind blew through the cracks in the stone walls, and she could feel chilly weather coming on. Throwing on a dark grey fur-trimmed hooded cloak, she slipped on a pair of black leather shoes, and tossed a small notebook and pen into her backpack, and called Dreary and Knit to follow her. She might need the help, she thought, picking up the pouch with the rest of her sprockets. Putting it in her pack as well, she stuffed in a light blanket and a flint and steel, just in case. She'd be able to find food in the woods, she thought, and she looked out her window once again to survey the scenery...

It was early afternoon, and there was plenty of daylight left to explore. She decided to stay relatively close to the castle today, and eventually move her way outward as she became more knowledgeable of her surroundings. There was no need to get lost immediately. Turning toward the door, she pulled it open, the hinges creaking as she pulled. Looking left down the hallway, then right, she saw what she usually saw when she poked her head out of her room: nothing.

Heading right and following the hall, she eventually came to a set of stairs, which she promptly followed down to the bottom floor. The hall continued and grew wider, leading to a grand hall. She had to stop to admire the place, as she'd never explored this part of the castle before. It was exhilirating to be out on her own, and she felt a sense of independence as she explored outside of her chambers.

Aranea shivered under the lined cloak, wondering not for the first time since she had left Feles's chambers exactly why it was she had left it. Oh right, she wanted to see if she could get an audience with Majestrix Nox. She walked under the lighted candles, moving from light pool to light pool, noting the lack of webs about the place. She could not wait until spring, this sluggish feeling would leave her and her many-legged friends would return.
As she walked through the large hall on the way to Nox's throne room she noticed another Fey walking around, a female who she didnt recall meeting. She sighed; well it would be rude not to say something and so she walked over to the Fey, clearing her throat as she approached.
'Greetings.' she said, her eyes moving over the..teenager she reckoned, and she tugged her cloak tighter to her body. Being social didnt mean she wanted to freeze to the spot.

Hearing footsteps approach, Procyon swiveled around to face an older Fey--a seductive looking woman with silver hair and bright red eyes. "Hello!" she answered in return, pulling her cloak closer around her. "I've never met you before! Excellent. I thought there were only four fey in the castle. I never see anyone roaming about the halls. It's good to know that there are more of us. I am Procyon," she said, giving a slight nod and bow.

'It's not often I venture from my lab,' Aranea said, reaching out to Procyon with one hand, her long nails flashing in the light. She ran her fingers through the Fey's hair.
'Aren't you the pretty one,' she said, moving away again.
'I am Aranea. Did you come to seek out our Majestrix?' she asked, curious as to why she would have wandered thus far without a purpose. Although she remembered as a child she had stumbled onto Nox but children were forgiven their curiosity.

Procyon was a bit taken aback at Aranea running her fingers through her hair. She wasn't used to such a touchy-feely fey. But she smiled instead of feeling awkward. After all, this woman was one of her own...How could she not appreciate the kind words and gestures?

"Thank you. I do appreciate the compliments," she said, her cheeks flushing a bit. "It is lovely to meet you Aranea." She shook her head. "Oh, no, I have not yet met the Majestrix...Well, I suppose I have once, when I was first released from my window. But I haven't seen her since then. Is that where you are going?"

"I was actually going to go exploring a bit. I rarely leave my chambers, and I've been feeling a bit pent-up inside these cold stone walls...I wanted to get a breath of fresh air, and perhaps explore the woods around the castle. Would that be unwise? I've never been far...Dee and I have really only explored the upper hallways and some of the rooms there. I just feel this urge to get out and about."

This Fey chattered too much, Aranea decided with a wince. Unless it was just a nervous state, but why would a Moon Court Fey be nervous in their own Castle?
'I was yes. But I don't think she is receiving today,' Aranea said.
'You may explore the woods. But I would not go too far...the woodlands are the boundary between our land and the Sun Court's location,' a frown passed across her elegant face.
'It is not wise for you to fall into their hands. There is much treachery at this time.'

Procyon could see Aranea's face twitch, and she wondered why...Was it her chatter that bothered her? Did she not greet her appropriately or something? She had always been a big talker, and nothing could stop it. "Aah, well good luck finding an audience with her. I hope to one day meet her, now that I'm older."

Listening to the spider-Fey's advice about the woods, she couldn't help but ask about the current status of the Moon and Sun Courts. "I'll be sure not to go too far. I'd rather not fall into the lap of the Sun Court. But I must admit, I don't know what is going on between the Courts. All I know is we are rivals. But why?"

It was a question she'd been wanting to ask since coming out of the window. But everyone she'd met had come out at about the same time, and they had no idea either. Perhaps this older Fey could shine some light on it for her...

'I'm sure I will speak to her soon,' Aranea said simply.
'There is much history between our two Court's,' Aranea spoke as she moved to a window, looking down and out onto the snow covered grounds.
'Their land should be ours...this is our rightful place and their goodness is a taint - they have no true passions and are weak things. They should be ended for their own good.' she hissed, scraping the stone with the nails of one hand.

Procyon looked a bit puzzled as Aranea gave the Cliff's Notes version of the struggles between the two Courts. Could it really be that the Sun Court was invading on their land?

"When did this all begin?" she asked, truly curious. "And why did we let them inhabit our land? Shouldn't we have fought back?"

And then, she couldn't help but ask: "Have you met any of these Sun Court Fey? Are they terribly unpleasant people?"

Shivering under her cloak, she thought it might be best to go somewhere warmer. "Are you in a hurry? We could find some place that is less chilly...If you're willing to talk to me some more. I feel so out of sorts about the relations between the Courts. And I barely know any of my own kind..."

'But we did; the curse that we all fell victim to was meant only for the Sun Court according to what little writings I have found of that time,' Aranea looked at Procyon.
'Yes they are. I have met several; including their so-called 'Queen'.' she said, tapped the stone sill with her nails now.
'They are weak-willed, and easily tricked.'
Aranea felt a shiver run through her again.
'I am not in a hurry to freeze to this wall,' she said dryly.
'If you wish to talk it best be somewhere warmer.'

"Yes, we should find somewhere warmer...I'm not too familiar with a lot of the castle. Maybe the library would be pleasant. That, or we could go to my chambers...I know that they are warm." She nodded to Aranea, pulling her cloak closer around her. She could only imagine how cold it was outside. But had she been running around the woods, she would be much warmer than she was standing here.

"It was only meant for the Sun Court? How is it that we were cursed as well? HOW un-fortunate. Did the Sun Fey have anything to do with it?" The last sentence that came from her mouth sounded so unlike the sweet, bubbly raccoon that most knew. They were sharp words, cutting words. If she had nails like Aranea's, she'd be scratching the windowsils with them too. If the Sun Court had some doing in the curse of her own Fey, she could hate them easily. After all, the curse had taken her mother from her, and had locked her within fragile panes of glass.

"Weak willed and easily tricked eh? Sounds like they should be easy to defeat. It would be a matter of gathering our resources...but then again, I have not met many of our own kind...I don't even know how many of us there are."

Aranea had no real urge to see this Fey's chambers;
'The library is fine,' she said, walking off, the cloak's hem skimming the ground as she went. She spoke as she went, not waiting to see if Procyon was following - just expecting her to.
'The curse originated from the Moon Court,' she went on.
'But as I said, it was only meant for the Sun Court. It would affect both Court's, but a cure was ready for us only.' Aranea sighed.
'But that did not happen. Our Court has been slower to emerge, for each of us relies on someone within our bloodline to escape the Curse. The Sun Court is weak itself, but has recently gained a few allies that are less so. One of which is the reason why I am trying to speak to Nox.'

Scampering behind Aranea, Procyon managed to stay close behind. She noticed that the woman paid no heed to her, and it interested her...Perhaps she just didn't care? Listening intently to what she was saying, she was disappointed to hear that the Moon Court had been the cause of the curse. That was the truly unfortunate part of the story.

"Ah, I see. Why is it that we weren't cured, if it was all a part of the plan?" Procyon's head tilted as if she were thinking about something. "Allies that are less weak than the Sun Court? Are there others besides those that reside in the two Courts?"

'What I've told you is all that I know of that time,' Aranea said as she walked down a narrow stone stairway, and onto another corridor. She cast glances into the ceiling corners as they went, looking for signs of arachnid life.
'There are two that are a mystery. One is the Oracle Spina, she was thought to be of the Moon Court but recent events have revealed she is not to be trusted. And a male by the name of Laniger who is possibly part of the Sun Court, but he seems to have a long past with Spina.'
Aranea frowned, as they walked to the library.

"Spina and Langier..." Procyon whispered their names, trying to commit them to memory. She didn't know when she'd come across either of them, but she found that the information might be important some day. "Well, if the two have a long past, perhaps they are working together against the Courts..." It was only a suspicion, as Procyon had no knowledge of either of them.

Following Aranea into the library, the raccoon stopped next the fireplace, hoping there was some way to get it lit. It would be much warmer if there was a roaring fire going. She bent down to pile some logs into the hearth, and looked around for something to get the fire going. "Any ideas on how to get this lit?" she asked the spider-Fey.

'No one knows their agenda,' Aranea said, watching Procyon's attempt to light the libraries fire. She ran a hand along the top of the fire, on the mantelpiece, finding flint, and locating a bundle of tinder which she scattered on the logs. She struck the flint stones together, with quick, hard movements and a spark flared, igniting the tinder. She blew on it, watching as it caught properly.
She stood back as the fire devoured the tinder hungrily, and started to slowly burn the thicker logs. She tugged her cloak back around herself from where it had fallen open, and took a seat near to the fire, watching the flames.

"Strange..." said Procyon as she watched Aranea work her magic on the fireplace. "Well, now that I know where the flint is, it should be easier to light next time." She smiled. Boy, had she made an a** of herself already.

Sitting down in the chair next to Aranea, she was glad to have warmth back in her again. It would have been awfully cold outside, and now, she was glad she hadn't gotten past the castle walls.

"Wintertime is miserable," she sighed, pulling her cloak around her more tightly. "So, I do have more questions about the Moon Court. I'm sorry if I am asking too much...This is just the first time I've had the opportunity to meet an older Fey, and I am infinitely curious about the Court. Do you know how many of us there are? And how old is everyone? I know of the Majestrix, but is there a King of the Moon Court somewhere?" She eyed the spider, trying to read her body language. She had no desire to come off as obnoxious, but she was quite curious about those who lived within the same walls that she did.

Aranea wrapped herself in the cloak, tight as she could, her bare feet dangling a hairs-width above the cold, stone floor.
'This season's end can not come quick enough for me,' she grumbled, her voice dull.
'If I can answer, you may ask,' Aranea said, her gaze flickering from Procyon to the flames of the fire.
'I know of a few others that have been released from the Curse. Pteryx, she was a child last time I saw her, Lupinus is an adult like myself, and Feles,' she said the last name and a smile curved her crimson lips.
'If there are any more hiding in the Castellum I have yet to meet them.' she closed her eyes, thinking a moment.
'A King? There was once I believe, but I dont know what fate befell him.'

"I've hardly been out of my chambers where it's nice and warm," Procyon said, smiling. "I barely noticed the change in weather. But now that I have, I can't wait until it's over."

She pulled her legs up into the chair, sitting indian-style. It was more comfortable for her that way...She wasn't as prim and proper as some of the other fey she knew. "Ah, I've met Pteryx. She was actually in the hallway right after I was released from the window. She seemed like a nice girl. She was quiet, but I suppose that was to be expected." The other names weren't familiar to her, but she engraved them in her memory. "Well, it's good to hear that there are others. I would like to meet them sometime. Do you ever gather together for anything, or is everyone lost in their own affairs?"

Procyon twisted a braid between her fingers absent-mindedly, and then gave the spider-fey a glance, on the lookout for shinies...And you never knew who would let you borrow something...

"Well, I've met a couple of fey myself, but they are all about my age. Dionaea is the flytrap fey, and she's my best friend these days...There's also Mephiti, but I see her very rarely. I think you're the fourth Fey I've ever met...besides the Majestrix of course."

She pondered the thought of a Moon Court King, curious how the balance of power would work out. Nox was a strong woman, and Procyon couldn't imagine her bowing down to anyone.

Aranea was becoming drowsy now, the combined warmth of the cloak and fire making her eyes feel a little heavy. She stirred in the chair, shifting so that a cooler air touched her skin which made her more alert.
'We gather when its necessary,' she said.
'If you seek the others out I'm sure you will find them. What do you do anyway?' she asked, looking sharply at Procyon.

The Spider's look caught Procyon by surprise. "What do you mean, what do I do?

Are you talking about in general? Or what my profession is?"

The Raccoon stopped, and then thought she realized what Aranea meant. She was a bit wary of telling the Spider about her pursuits, but she figured that it would be wise to trust those of her own Court.

"To be honest, I haven't done much since I've been reawakened. I like to explore, and learn as much as I can about the Courts. But I would say that my true calling is sleight of hand, theft and generally sneaky behavior..."

She nodded to the Spider, having given away her not-so-secret secrets. "And what is it that you do Aranea?"

'A thief then,' she stated.
'I hope your pursuits lie outside of this Court, I would hate to have to come to you if I suspected something of mine had gone missing,' her eyes glittered in the firelight, her tone even.
'Maybe you should get yourself an audience with the Majestrix, I am sure she would be eager to make use of your skills...it has gone most quiet in reagrds to the Sun Court's quarters lately.'
A hand emerged from the cloak and brushed fine strands of her hair away from her face.
'I am an alchemist.' she said, in reply to Procyon's last question.
'I seek to change, and alter...I also make powerful potions.'

"Yes, I suppose you could say I was a thief..." she nodded in agreement, and then shook her head at the mention of stealing from those of her own Court. "I would never steal from my own kind," she said sharply. "I do know better than that..." Though the shiny silver candlesticks now resided on her own hearth instead of the one in the sitting room, she looked at them as borrowed, not stolen goods. "But if you ever are missing anything, I would be more than happy to help you find it. I'm quite good at hunting things down."

She tapped her fingers on the arm of the chair, and smiled at the thought of getting an audience with the Majestrix. "I would love more than anything to have an audience with Her Majesty. Helping the Moon Court is my desire, and anything she would have me do would make me quite happy. I could use some sort of reconissance work to help me hone my skills."

An alchemist? Interesting, the Racoon thought, pondering how skilled this woman was. "Well, your profession sounds fascinating. Have you always had an interest in potion-making? What are your favorite types of potions?"

'That's good then.'
Aranea regarded the teen thoughtfully. At least she had honour amongst her own kind, and for that answer, her opinion of Procyon rose a notch. She was after all, wary of trusting others from her Court implicitly after the whole Spina debacle.
'I have made many, but most are for practice. One of the most important things I made were to infiltrate the Sun Court and to steal a Kithain's child.'
Her crimson lips curved into a grin at that memory...that and the reminder of Feles in his little unicorn costume!

"But of course. I wish no treachery against those of this Court. In fact, I've come to like those I've met so far. I see no reason to take anything from any of them." She paused. "But, I'm in dire need of practice...and without taking from people here, I need to get out into the world, and take from those who I have less respect for...Do you think the Majestrix would give me a mission, even though I am only a teen?"

She was honestly curious, not really knowing how much Nox trusted those of her court. Would she give the Raccoon a chance to prove herself?

"How does one request a meeting with the Majestrix?"

And then, pondering Aranea's potion-making skills, Procyon couldn't help but venture further into the situation that brought one of the Sun Court into Umbra. She smiled at the Spider. "Really? You stole one of the Sun Court!? Amazing...You must have been quite sneaky and tactful to acquire one of their own. Did we gain anything from the situation? Some good information I hope..."

'The missions to steal the Kithains child used one of our number that was still a child himself at the time. Age means nothing if you have skills of importance.' Aranea watched the fire a moment.
'The capture of the child led to the capture of a member of the Sun Court..' she sighed.
'Unfortunately due to...other circumstances,' her tone as she conveyed this brooked no curiosity in to further details.
'We had to give our prisoner up before anything of great use could be got from her. I dumped her in the woods, and if she lives still I care not.' she smiled, standing.
'By persistence and being honoured, will you gain audience with our Majestrix.' Aranea gathered the cloak tight around her.
'And now I really must take my leave. I am getting too cold, and it affects my body more then most.'
She hated the weakness that the winter temperatures released in her but there was little to be done but retreat to the warmth of Feles's chambers.

"Aah..." Procyon said, nodding. "How unfortunate that nothing good came from all of your hard work. Though I'm sure finding and torturing one of the Sun Court was at least amusing for all involved..."

Standing with Aranea, Procyon gave her a slight bow, out of respect for the older Fey. "I shall be persistent, and look for opportunities to improve my skills within the court, and perhaps the Majestrix will grant me an audience. Thank you for talking with me. I feel much more knowledgeable now...I appreciate your kindness."

She turned toward the door, her cloak wrapping fully around her once again, and then, she turned back to Aranea and smiled. "It was a pleasure to meet you Aranea. Go, find warmth. I hope to see you again soon." With that, she walked through the doorway, and stealthily moved through the shadows, back to her chambers.

Thoughts on the Spider and the Sun Court

Walking back through the hallway, cloak wrapped tightly around her, Procyon thought back to her conversation with the Spider Fey, Aranea. At first, she had gotten the feeling that the woman did not like her...But she was glad that the older woman loosened up a bit once they got to talking. Procyon had no reason to make enemies within her own court. She felt that all of those of the Moon should be her close allies, regardless of their attitudes. She felt a bond with those of her blood, and though she might not feel the same way about some things that they did, she felt kinship with those of the Moon.

But there was one thing that caught Procyon's attention. Aranea had seemed calous and unfeeling...When the subject of the Sun Court kidnapping was brought to her attention, she seemed proud of the mission. Were those of the Moon Court--of her own Court--so cruel that they would enjoy the torture of others?

Procyon thought about this trait--it was the first time since being released from her window that she saw the cruelty of one of her own Court. All of the other Fey she'd met were kind, and not at all scary! But Aranea had seemed threatening, powerful. Procyon now had utmost respect for the Spider. She was one woman that the Raccoon would never cross. She knew better than that. The Spider Fey would be an excellent ally, she thought. As long as she didn't demand that Procyon kill any Sun courtiers, the Spider and teh Raccoon should get along.

Procyon had no reason to hate the Sun Court. She knew little about them, and even her own court had locked her within her stained glass tomb by pure accident. She had no reason to hate the Sun Court...though she supposed that the battle over land was important, she didn't think much of it. None of the Sun had wronged her, and until they did, she would resist the torture or murder of any Sun courtier, even thinking that she could learn something valuable from them.

She had reached the stairs by this point, and was about to head up them and back to her chambers, when she heard and felt the grumbling in her stomach. Food. Skipping around the staircase and back down the hallway, she neared the kitchen. She could feel warmth coming from the cozy room, and upon further inspection, she could hear voices...

The Tea Party of DOOOMMM! -- part one

Pteryx had been exploring the castle more and more lately, as she'd gotten more and more comfortable with the way she could function.

And then after one flight outside, Pteryx had discovered the kitchen. It had food, and drink, and a warmth that unfroze her from the frozen world outside.

She sat in the kitchen now at one of the benches, hair and skin still frosty and damp from her latest flight. And there in that comfortable dim warmth, Pteryx half-dozed off, with a cup of warmed milk and a slice of some type of cheese on a plate arranged on the bench in front of her.

Dionaea had been wandering the halls for what seemed like hours, only hearing the sound of her own footsteps to keep her company. The meeting with Melidora lifted her spirits, but she wanted more interaction. The smell of food tugged her in the direction of the kitchen. Once she stepped beyond the threshold, her stomach growled.

Embarassed, she tried to shake it off, instead catching a glimpse of what looked like... was that Pteryx? Passed out in some cheese? Or was she passed out at all? Hazarding to disturb her, Dionaea called out.

"Pteryx? Is that... you?"

Procyon was examining the halls after her visit with Aranea, looking for more signs of life. She hadn't been terribly successful...but then, she smelled it. FOOD! It seemed like it had been days since she'd eaten anything substantial, so she headed toward the kitchen, and the warmth that undoubtedly lay within.

Once she got to the door, she realized that there were others there...and they were all people she knew! Was that Pteryx, sleeping on a cheese tray? And there was Dee, standing almost directly in front of her.

"Well hello ladies!" She said, walking up behind Dee and giving her a hug around the waist. "Nice to see you again!"

The castle's kitchen was one of the few places within it that Mephiti was comfortable with. She had been venturing there more often since the official start of the winter season, as her chamber's window was no longer sufficient to hang and dry fresh herbs from; the cold froze them, more often than not, and then they simply rotted. After the first few batches of decayed foliage, she learned that it was best to take them down to the kitchens and hang them over a fire. She had even started keeping a drying rack down there, just in case.

With cheeks red from the bitter cold, she wandered into the kitchens with a spring in her step, a bundle of what appeared to be weeds in her arms, and a sleeping creature nested in her tail. Her furred ears perked at the sound of unfamiliar voices, and her ever-present smile grew; company, how fortunate! "Hello?" she called, nudging the door open with a shoulder. Her wings buzzed her excitement as her eyes fell upon her two childhood playmates and the unknown, but far from unwelcome, teenager. "Proc? Dee? Wow, it's been forever!" she chirped.

Pteryx jerked awake, and half-panicked. She didn't like it when her sense failed her like that, she needed her hearing when she wasn't speaking!

But she managed to stop herself from leaping up in fright and bolting from the room as fast as her feet and wings could take her. She had to compose herself.

"Unless I look different to ten minutes ago, I'm sure it's still me. Who are you again? And... who are all of you?"

Pteryx had gotten the image of three in front of her. The totem details should have been obvious, but then there were a few other things on each. Namely... CURVES. They'd grown up, if they were the children she remembered.

Pteryx ignored the still panicked fluttering of her heart, and continued as she took in their new appearances, "Now that there's a few of us, would one of you like to heat up mulled wine?"

A detour had been made... Astra had started to head back to her own rooms, but the gnaw of hunger in her belly had made her change directions and head towards the kitchen. Before she'd even gotten within sight range, she'd heard voices. Slipping closer in silence, she listened carefully, but frowned again a moment later. These voices weren't secretive, nor were they hushed in plotting. They seemed almost joyful?

Well THAT was no fun. Pouting softly, Astra moved around the corner then, to see the ones that she'd been eavesdropping on. A raccoon girl... a skunk... one with pink hair... and one with the most vibrant orange curls she'd ever seen in her life. Well, that wasn't really saying a lot, but still, it WAS bright.

"I'm hungry," she announced, standing in the doorway with one hand on her hip. It wouldn't likely be as 'cute' when she grew older... but for the moment, the child couldn't carry off indignance with anything more than a childish huff.

Dionaea turned about in Procyon's grip to return the favor, finally seeing everyone again. And Pteryx had grow, Mephiti had grown too! After a good squeeze, Dionaea backed up to survey everyone. Looks like everyone was drawn to the kitchen. Evil got hungry just as much as anyone else did.

She cast a glance at confused bat teen. "I'm Dee, Pteryx. I was very little when you met me. Do you remember? And Procyon and Mephiti are here too!" It was very exciting to see everyone again, like a family reunion over a homecooked meal, minus the meal. Thus far. "I would like some wine. That sounds good to warm cold bones."

The appearance of someone younger than all four of them surprised the Flytrap. She had bright blue hair and an attitude. Never seen her before. "Who might you be?"

Procyon smiled as she looked around the kitchen to all of her friends who were now much older, and much more...filled out. It was good to see people she was familiar with again, and it gave her a warm feeling inside.

After releasing Dee, Procyon walked around the kitchen island, greeting Mephiti with almost the same enthusiasm. "So good to see you again 'Phiti! You're gorgeous! I've been in my own chambers so long, I barely recognize anyone!"

Turning to Pteryx, Procyon smiled, remembering the bat Fey. "I met you with my Kithain, right after I came out of the window. You're Pteryx, right? Good to see you again! Looks like you've been outside awhile. Good thing you're in front of the hearth. You wouldn't want to catch a cold."

It was then that she noticed a small girl, with light blue and silvery hair, her complexion bright and starry. She nodded along with Dee, curious as to who this little girl was. She'd never seen her before...And what was this? She was already huffing about? What was there to be upset about? This was a festive meeting. "Pour me a glass of wine too, will you Pteryx? Thank you!"

Looking over at Astra, she had to inquire about her. "Yes, I've never seen you before. Are you new to Umbra?"

They didn't know who she was?? How rude.

Astra pulled herself up to her full meager height and looked towards Dionaea directly. "My name is Astra," she said simply, crossing her arms over her chest. "Soon to be the finest bard this court has ever seen."

She paused for a moment to let that sink in, glancing to the four of them for a moment before giving each a critical look. "And who are you?"

Looking over the sour little girl once again, Procyon couldn't help but laugh. "I'm Procyon. And since we're discussing our professions, you may as well know that I am the thief of the Court..." She nodded, and looked at the Star Fey again, noticing that the girl was eyeing them with criticism.

She was a bit miffed by the little girl's look, and decided that such a little child shouldn't look down on her elders. "Lovely to meet you Astra. Since are such a fine bard, would you like to perform for us? What kind of bardic talents do you posess? I'd love to see your capabilities." She smirked, hoping she could see the magnificence of this haughty Fey's song and dance.

Another voice joined in the other three. This one sounded almost the same as it had last time she'd heard it, so Pteryx assumed that the shiny girl in the corner was still a child Astra.

"I won't catch a cold. I like it out there in winter, it's dark and quiet." She turned to look up at Dionaea, standing up. Pteryx felt a bit huffy herself now, first they give her a heart attack, and now she supposed to serve everyone else, like she was just the common cook?

Just because she had been in the kitchen first, didn't mean that she was their cook! It was too late to argue though, she'd already put it on the old wood-fueled stove. Pteryx just needed to tell them when it was done and get her own. They couldn't tell her to do things, just because they were older.

That, and she was a little jealous that they'd all filled out like they'd stuffed socks down their tops, and she still looked the same age as Astra. Pteryx could remember them, and they did NOT look like that last time she met them.

"I think it's warm enough for people to get a mug of it now. I'm Magestric Nox's advisor" Pteryx announced to whoever'd wanted some in the first place. It seemed warm to her fingertips that she held close to the edge. Pteryx shifted it off the heat and ladled some into her own mug. "But Astra, you have to have milk from the jug."

At least she was still older than Astra.

At the mention of performing, Astra's face lit up and she nearly became a whole different person. "Sure!" She darted into the room then, climbing up onto one of the stools and perching there. "I don't have any of my instruments with me, but I can sing. Would that be alright?" She hadn't really had a chance to sing for anyone yet, so this would be a welcome distraction from finding her brother.

Any other time, she'd have likely wondered if or how Pteryx knew her... but she'd already stated her name, so it never crossed her mind that the other had already met her. Instead of worrying about it, she lifted her chin proudly and began to sing, a softly lilting lullaby that she remembered her mother singing when she was younger. Her pitch was nearly perfect, and she soon lost herself in the song, forgetting that anyone at all was listening.

The Tea Party of DOOOMMMM! -- part two

Amazed at the change in the little girl, Procyon's eyes widened as she watched Astra climb atop the wobbly stool, ready to perform for the room. She could tell that this Fey loved attention, and realized that she cherished her time in the spotlight.

"Well, I'm sure it'll be lovely, even without your instruments," she said, heading to the kettle to pour herself a glass of wine. Once she'd filled her cup, she sat down on the nearest stool to watch Astra's performance.

The wine warmed her, and she smiled as she watched Astra sing. Her voice was crisp and beautiful, and the song brought a shiver to her spine. Once it was over, Procyon clapped heartily for the little girl. "That was excellent! Did you make that song up yourself? It is truly haunting, but lovely just the same."

Astra beamed at the praise, her smile shining on her face as she turned to Procyon. "I didn't make it up, no," she answered, folding her hands primly in her lap. "My mother sang it to my brother and I to help us sleep. I remember it because it was the one song we heard every day. I know a bunch more, too, but I'm out of practice..." She sighed then, looking down at her hands. "I just came out of my window... and I can't find my brother, either."

"Well, you certainly sound like you've been practicing...But then again, I'm not a good judge of pitch and tone...I'm defintely not a singer, though occasionally I'll sing to myself. You, on the other hand, are defintely a pro. It was a lovely song."

Procyon was coming to like Astra, even though her first impressions of the Fey weren't very pleasant. Though she had been indignant at first, the child seemed to be warming up. Perhaps it was the praise that brightened her spirits...

"You just came out of your window? Well, welcome home again! Isn't it good to be able to stretch your legs? It was one of the things I really missed about being trapped...I get antsy quickly." Procyon noticed the slight despair in Astra, and had to ask about her brother, even though it might hit a nerve. "When was the last time you saw him? Maybe if you know what his totem is, we can look around and see if his window is still around...If not, he could be roaming the halls right now! You never know...Always have hope Astra. All of the Moon Court will eventually be released, and I'm sure your brother will be here too."

Astra sighed softly, pulling her knees up to her chest and resting her chin on them as her arms wrapped around her legs. "I don't know," she murmured, shrugging softly. "His name is Melidora... he's a bird fey. I don't remember what the name of the bird it, but it sounded like he was royalty." Pale blue eyes flicked towards the raccoon. "I wish I'd stayed in the window if he's not here. It doesn't feel right when I'm by myself."

That much was true... she hated being alone, and Melidora had always been there. Now that he was gone, it was like there was something always nagging at the back of her mind, reminding her that she was alone. "He sings too... his songs make people angry sometimes, and he likes to make up songs about people." A faint smile quirked across her face then, as she remembered some of the more vicous barbs he'd come up with when they were younger. "Most times, they didn't like it. But it was SO funny!"

Mephiti blushed and stammered a thank-you at the praise, awkwardly hugging her old friend. She smiled at the trio--quartet, as Astra entered--before her inherent shyness kicked in. The skunk fey moved to place her plants on the counter, moving towards a fireplace placed close to the back of the room that was likely used to roast meat over; she only assumed as such, as she never used it for that. She smiled at the future bard's song as she got the fire going and hung her day's work over the fire to dry.

After wiping her hands on a fairly clean dishrag, she returned to the group, just in time to hear that the wine was ready. Smiling warmly at Pteryx, she retrieved mugs from the cabinet, one for each of the group save the bat, and ladled some into one for herself. "Thank you for heating the wine. I hope you don't mind our intrusion--the kitchen just seems like the place to be today."

Dionaea thought quietly. So she was Astra, Melidora's sister! They'd been looking for one another. Dionaea silently thanked Pteryx for the wine, her mind churning over this new information. If they had been looking for one another, best to let them know.

"Astra," she said quietly as a moment of silence, "Melidora is here. And looking for you. I met him briefly in the hallways a few days ago. He would like to know that you are alive and well, I think. He told me of you and your wonderful songs, though he sings beautifully as well."

She found an open bench and sat down, wondering what it would have been like to have a sister or brother. Procyon was about the closest she had to family.

Astra stopped dead at that... and if she'd had something in her hands, she would have likely dropped it with how fast she turned to look at Dionaea. "You've seen him??" she asked, slipping from the stool and nearly running over to the older girl. "Where did you see him? Is he okay? He's really looking for me??" The questions came out in a rush, the girl's excitement bubbling up to the surface as she nearly bounced on her feet in front of Dionaea. "Is he well? Are mother and father here too?"

Dionaea was happy to see that her remarks hadn't angered the child that now bounced in front of her. Good thing she had met Melidora previously! She remembered most everything from his and her conversation, since it had been the first meeting she'd had in too long.

"He is quite well, actually, and yes, he was wondering if you were about too. He did say he was looking for mother and father, but hadn't seen or heard of them, and neither have I. His chambers were relatively near mine, if memory serves." She was glad she could be of help, but something told her that Melidora may not be as happy to see his younger sister as his sister was to see him.

No matter. Melidora did want see her again, she was sure. Family was supposed to be important, after all.

Pteryx, lulled by the warmth of the wine and the room, and the sweetness of the child's voice, fell back into the half-asleep trance she'd had earlier. She couldn't help it. Pteryx, as jealous of them as she was, still felt comfortable enough around these girls.

And there was something calming about hearing the old songs once more. It had been a very long time since the songs of the Moon Court had been sung.

The clapping snapped her out of it again. Pteryx smiled for the first time. "The song is very soothing when you sing it. Like how I remember it was sung before the curse."

As she spoke, Pteryx carefully sliced some of the bread and cheese for Astra, put them on a plate, and slid them towards the child. "It's the best I can do for you. But there's butter somewhere, and there's jam somewhere as well."

For someone who'd just been huffy about being asked to pour wine, Pteryx had been pretty good about giving Astra food...

"Thank you," Astra replied, nibbling on a bit of the food, even though she seemed VERY distracted now. Her brother was here... he'd been seen, he WAS freed from the curse! It wasn't too terribly long before Astra just couldn't keep herself still any longer and pushed the half full plate back onto the table. "Thank you for the food," she said, curtseying politely to the four of them. "But I have to go and find Meli. If he's here, he's got to be looking for me too!" With that, the girl darted off, disappearing from the kitchen once more.

Taking a swig of her wine, Procyon watched the delight on Astra's face when Dee mentioned that she'd seen him. She was glad to see the girl happy, and at that moment, she wished her mother were still around...or at least trapped in a window somewhere. That would at least give her hope of seeing her again some day. But that wasn't the case. At least she could be happy to Astra and her brother reunite. "Good luck Astra!" she shouted to the girl as she ran off down the hallway, feet pattering across the stone cobbles. "Nice to meet you!"

Turning back to the three teen Fey, she chuckled. "I'll bet she's really excited," she said. "It would be nice to have another family member here. What's he like Dee? You said you met him?" Curious about the male members of the Moon Court, Procyon wanted the details...She couldn't help but be curious about those of the opposite gender. After all, she didn't even know any of the men of the Moon Court.

Dionaea waved to Astra as she left, hoping the reunion was something Melidora would enjoy as much as Astra would. She sighed, hoping for the best. She thanked Pyeryx for the wine and turned back to Procyon, sipping quietly at the warm wine. It felt good to have that warmth radiate from her center.

"Melidora is a wonderfully talented singer. He sings about death and anger and war. Something like our theme song, I suppose. I like him very much. It was good to not only meet someone new, but to meet someone with the ability to sing. It was comforting..."

She trailed off, thinking about the haunting melodies Melidora produced. She wondered where he was at that moment. "Procyon, have you met anyone else from our Court?"

"I'm curious about his songs now...You've piqued my interest," he Raccoon Fey said, running a finger along the rim of her cup. "Our theme song, you say? I'd have to hear it again, and I'm sure it'd come right back to me," she said, her brow furrowed in thought. She couldn't remember the song...it was only a slight memory at the back of her mind.

Turning back to Dee, and her question, Procyon perked at the thought of telling her friend all about Aranea and their meeting. "As a matter of fact, I have met another of our Court that I had never seen before." She gave a dramatic pause, just for effect, and continued. "Her name is Aranea...She is the Spider Fey. A Black Widow at that." Her lips curled into a smile. "She is the Court alchemist, and I believe she is quite powerful...At least that's what it seemed like..."

Pteryx listened to all the talking, sipping the wine and letting the warmth send tingles through her cold body. She'd met Aranea a long time ago, when Pteryx had snuck down to look at the Sun Court woman.

She shifted on the stool, stretching out her limbs from their set positions. Pteryx was feeling drowsy again. She wanted to start walking or moving soon.

Waiting for a pause in conversation, Pteryx casusally asked, "Has no one else noticed that our Court is desperatly in short supply of something?" She wasn't interested. Not at all. But, even if she was, it was a fact.

The women in the Court couldn't share lovers, after all. That would result in a lot of bloodshed.

Dionaea's interest perked. She thought she had heard more voices than she had seen people. "Aranea? A spider alchemist? That sounds very good, especially since she is our ally. The Sun Court wouldn't know what hit them, I think." She smiled and sipped her cup, liking the way the warmth radiated through her body.

To Pteryx's question, Dionaea nodded. "There's only one man I know of, and he is but a child. Why do you think so many of the Moon Court is female? Not that it's a bad thing, mind you, but..." She wasn't about to finish that thought, at least not out loud. Being female, we all have our urges now and then.

Mephiti frowned, lost in thought, occasionally taking idle sips of her wine. Her furred ears perked at the mention of the Court's alchemist, and again at Pteryx's question. "Perhaps it is a part of the curse?" she offered. She had never met any of the men of the Moon Court either, come to think of it.

"Yes, she would be an excellent ally," Procyon replied, her face flushed from the wine. "She is quite intimidating..."

Pausing, she stopped to think about what Aranea had said about the men of the Court. "Well ladies, it seems there are more men about than just Melidora. Aranea told me of others...I believe there's Lupinus, and Corvus at least. She didn't mention their totems, or anything else about them, for that matter. But she did say that they had not been seen in a long time. I wonder where they could have gone?"

Though Procyon had never had contact with a male Fey (at least not since she'd been released from her window) she was curious about them. Could it be that being with a male would be fulfilling in some way? "Do you all know much about these men of which we speak? I don't seem to be very informed about the ways of the opposite gender..." She giggled girlishly, her serious tone thrown off quickly.

Procyon's Journal

I have been so fortunate this day!

Not only did I get to meet an older Fey, Aranea the Spider, but I got to see my old friends and even meet a new Fey, Astra the Star.

I spoke with Aranea for quite awhile, and she seems a force to be reckoned with. I know that I will never anger her, as she has alchemical knowledge that could sabotage anyone who tried to cross her. At first I was unsure that she liked me, but I believe we have made acquaintence, and I don't think she dislikes me any more. She suggested that I find a time to meet with the Majestrix, and perhaps she could give me a mission to go on. I'm curious to see what the Majestrix would have me do for her. Though I am still a teenager, I think I could succeed on a mission for Nox. I would like to make her proud of me, but I doubt she even knows I exist. I wonder how one gets an audience with her? Next time I wander outside of my chambers, I will try to find Pteryx, who says she is the advisor to the Majestix. Perhaps she will know how to gain an audience with Her Majesty.

After meeting with Aranea, I got hungry, and headed to the kitchen to find some food. And who did I see there already? Well, Pteryx was practically falling asleep by the fire, cold from a night of flying outside. Dee was there too, looking as radiant as ever. I also got to see dear Mephiti again, and it looked as if she was preparing healing herbs in the kitchen before our arrival. I didn't get a chance to talk to her as much as I would have liked, but I know 'Phiti is more quiet than the rest of us. Just having her presence was comforting.

And then there was Astra, the little girl who seemed to shine as brightly as the stars of her totem. She came barging into the kitchen with an attitude that I did not appreciate at all. At first she was haughty and self-centered...but things quickly changed. Once we got her singing, she seemed to turn into a different person. Perhaps it was the praise that we gave her, but she became much more pleasant to be around. She was asking about her brother, saying that she missed him desperately. The funny thing was, Dee had met him not long before. I believe they said his name was Melidora, or something of that nature. He is a bard too, from what I understand. As quickly as she arrived, Astra ran off to find him, and I hope that their reuniting is pleasant. I would like to meet this Meli some day. I hear his songs are haunting and wonderful. Dee seems to admire them, and that makes me curious of his talents.

Well, I just thought I'd write to fill in all of the pieces of what I've been doing as of late. It's so good to get out of my quarters and see people again. I will have to do it more often. I feel a change in the weather is coming, and hopefully spring will come soon. I look forward to being able to go outside and roam the forests, looking for adventure...

Finally...Spring has Sprung!

The Raccoon crept down the hallway, moving as silently as her feet would allow her. She'd seen the changes in the weather over the past few weeks, and she'd finally decided that today would be the day to roam outside around the castle.

After all, she'd spent very little time in the out-of-doors since she'd been released from her stained glass tomb. There was only a fleeting moment that she'd stepped foot outside, but she'd quickly retreated, back to the warmth of her quarters. She didn't like the winter. At all.

Heading through the kitchen, she went down the back steps, which curved around to ground level, leading her to a door that would take her around the back of Umbra. As she pushed the door open, her wings fluttered a bit in the fresh spring breeze, and she inhaled deeply, breathing into lungs previously filled with musty castle air.

Boy, was it good to be outside! The sun was shining, and the trees had begun to sprout leaves--though the Moon Court's trees weren't nearly as impressive as those nurtured by the Sun Court, Procyon liked the knotted dark wood that the Moon Court forest consisted of. Even the trees looked dark and ominous, and Procyon knew most of the Sun Court didn't dare to venture into their forest.

Though she'd gotten used to walking on two feet, the Raccoon was ready to jump right back into her old habits, crouching almost instantly on all fours and bounding off into the woods, looking and listening to everything around her.
