_x_haruko-chan_x_ bakahito I go to college in Japan but I did it a rather sneaky way whee I highly recommend going to do a study abroad. I went here in high school too and I did get a chance to live with a host family which was so much better than the student dorms! Make sure you get opinions from a lot of people regarding study abroad programs because some schools have better language programs than others. Try to find one that suits your tastes and that most people have a positive opinion about. I believe SFSU has a list of universities over there in different areas that you can choose from. If possible I want to go back to a university in Kyushu or as close to there as I can get. The rest of Japan was nice but Kyushu is home heart Bakahito where are you currently staying and where did you stay in High School? And are they nice places? What do you think of the university life? I know I have a few years but I just want to get a feel for what it will be like. I loved going to High School in Japan but don't know if it will be the same...ya know? I am in a small school in Hyogo now but since my pilot program is being cut it looks like i will be going home soon (not bad really since its expensive here) because my mom is threatening to disinherit me rolleyes If you like actually have an academic career, anything outside of the big 6 super hard to get into State Universities aren't worth it. Japanese college is generally a massive joke (its called the "four year vaction" for a reason). I lived in Nagoya for high school and enjoyed that around the end of my stay but I was about ready to pull out my hair for most of it, to be totally honest. And I should throw in a word of warning to anyone trying for a study abroad scholarship. Since the Jpn governtment is fitting over p of the multi-billion dollar bill to move the US Marines from Okinawa to Gwam, government scholarships are being cut way, way back. Just an FYI.

Since the Jpn governtment is fitting over p of the multi-billion dollar bill to move the US Marines from Okinawa to Gwam, government scholarships are being cut way, way back. Just an FYI. You just gave me the confirmation of what i thought, thank you! (about Japanese university). I also feel the same way (I guess); I love Japan, but it really doesn't feel home. I easily get homesick and everything is too expensive here. I guess that if my boyfriend wasn't Japanese, I wouldn't stay here for such a long time, and come here just once a year... I don't know how to describe this feeling. So I booked my flight back, I'm going tomorrow, and part of me is completely happy to do so. I'll finally be in France! Back to where I can eat 3 crepes in a row without people thinking I'm strange... The other part of me, though, is in the most depressed mood... But that has nothing to do with Japan itself, it's just that I'm not going to see my boyfriend for 4 months... Oh, today it's been 61 years since the Nagasaki bombing. Koizumi made a nice speech on TV, but I could concentrate only about his hairstyle. It's so funky xd

To tell the truth, I took the shinkansen only once last year, from Tokyo to Shizuoka. My experience lasted less than 2 hours, so I don't have much to say about it xd But it was really fast. Distances in Japan feel like shorter to me, I don't know why! I took the bus from Tokyo to Nagoya though, and it was very nice too. 6 hours, and I didn't notice that time passed. They are both good in a way, to me; Shinkansen is fast and clean, but expensive The bus is clean and not that fast, but much cheaper It all depends on the importance you give to the duration of the travel!

Well, I'm back. I had such a good trip! biggrin I'd kind of forgotten how much I love/miss Tokyo until I went back. Such a happening place - Nara feels like the middle of nowhere in comparison. sweatdrop If anyone wants to blitz through some photos, then you can check out my pictures with accompanying commentary for: Tokyo/Comiket - I apologize for the lack of pictures here. I didn't have time to go over to the cosplay area, and you aren't allowed to take pictures inside the convention center. MiyajimaHiroshimaAnd of course, my Comiket spoils - Haha, this talks more about Comiket than the Comiket photo page does. o_o; And yes, the shinkansen is awesome, but now I am rather poor because of it. sweatdrop Well, I was in a bit of a rush... Anyway, I don't think I'll be doing any more long-distance travelling for quite some time, but that is okay because I finally bought myself Pop'n Music 12, and that will keep me entertained for a while yet.

....I liked the Hikari >.> while my group was in Japan we got the 7 day rail pass the government offers for foreigners and we got to ride shinkansen and all JR lines and the like for only 230 american dollars for the 7 days...it was so cheap! We totally lucked out. We weren't allowed to ride the Nozomi though. But a friend of mine and I accidently got onto a Nozomi train in Kyoto and rode to Osaka without anyone knowing the better. I didn't see to big of a differenece between Nozomi and Hikari...unless your traveling from like Kyushu to Tokyo. Really long distances. Because of the less amount of stops. Are the different speeds? I couldn't tell.

I couldn't tell. Nozomi supposedly goes faster, but it definitely has less stops. I didn't like the Hikari because it was a long ride and very crammed. Nozomi was always fairly empty except once during my commute to Tokyo. Unfortunately I didn't have a foreigner pass, so I had to pay everytime I rode (but from what I've heard it excludes Nozomi anyways..) Rindi: I recognize those places in your Hiroshima pictures, in the one of the interns walking, were in you in a Hiroshima neighborhood? smile スーゲホウジャロウゥ!!

I'm bringing this topic back to life because I have more things to talk about!
I am sorry for talking so much about my personal life... Well, through my trips to Japan,I have had in my life 4 Japanese boyfriends. 2 of them recently proposed to me (I'm only 17, but they are 7 years older than me). My actual boyfriend actually lives in Nagoya (as you probably know) and he seems to seriously want me to move there... (I didn't say "yes", but I said we could move in together when I turn 19 because my uni allows me to study in Japan for one year)<--off topic sweatdrop
Well so I wish to talk about all the people on this forum who gave up part of or their whole life to live in Japan.
How did it feel like? Please talk about it! Personal stories, emotions, general facts....
