So, When I am bored somtimes I hang out in south pront and have fun with a social experiment that I like to perform. I get on my monk and equip his fire fist, than I occult impaction a poring or drops so it wont die, but will come after me. than I take a seat near the entrance to pront and wait to see what idiot will kill it. What kind of people would kill it, do you think? Low lvl/class noobish people or high lvl/class older palyers. To my suprise, neither. When a low class player hits it, I heal it and ask them to stop and tell them about KSing. They apologise on the gounds tha they did not know and stop. Older players almost never kill them (aside from the occasional jack-a**). The people that kill them the most are older players that are re-making a char. Low class people controlled by older players seem to be who are the biggest jerks. They are the ones that come up with excuses like "I didn't know it was a rule" and then continue to do it over and over again. Or the people who insist it isnt a rule.

Try this experiment yourself somtimes.

While they could claim you're holding up the spawn and so are in the wrong...honestly they are just being petty.

I have indirectly tried it. Numerous times but not for the same reasons.

In the day of HP parties you'd find an empty building, make some porings, and try to get a class change into an MVP. Someone stumbles into the building, and immediately kills the porings.

Have a DB party in some quiet corner? Someone stumbles in, shouts that db are free for all (which is true) and proceeds to slaughter them (or in one instance get slaughtered twisted ).

Got a PLANT db once. Was laughing with a party member how this plant is managing to consistantly hit my 260 flee, but never his 180. Someone walks past? An immediate need to kill the plant fills him and so he does so.

I'm not sure if it's a desire to ruin your fun, or a simple 'just because I can and I'm there' mentality, but either way, it's common.

Altho I do have a cute memory of one novice thinking I needed saving from a creamy that was fanning my thief. He never connected but was sweet that he tried. (He had died to one and thought if we ganged up on it we could slay this nasty butterfly biggrin ).

i don't see what's the point of getting angry at your porings being killed if you don't really need them.

i would've killed them if they were near the entrance and you were just "sitting around"

Which prompts the question of WHY?

It isn't for the exp... even to a novice a single poring isn't THAT much, and if you're above level 10 you don't even see the exp from one.

It isn't for the drops...closest porings have to a useful rare is their unripe apple later in cooking.

It isn't because there is nothing else on the map to kill...there is plenty on those types of maps, since even a lowly novice can cleave a poring in a few strikes, keeping the spawn up.

It isn't a risk of aggro, or a FFA summons of a dead branch giving you the right to attack.

It isn't the fun of making porings blow up...if it were you'd already be roaming the map smacking porings.

The only reason to do so would because he wishes for it to be alive and you want to take that away. Hence 'being a jerk'.

...unless I'm missing some other possible reason someone knowing the rules and past novicehood might have for KS'ing someone's tanked solitary poring.

I'm just trying to point out that the impersonallity of the internet brings out the inner jerk in some people.

I'd agree w/ that last statement, Delaio. It's similar to something my husband said when he worked in phone technical support. He found that people calling in to get their internet fixed would say things and in general be more mean and spiteful over the phone than they probably would be had they been discussing the subject in person.

ha! it seems i forgot to mention the "and if i was trying to leve up a new char" part... heh heh, cuz yeah, otherwise i'd have no reason to... xcept if i'm bored... nothing to do with jerkyness people... you guys are just too uptight about the rules...

It's not so much to do with the rules as much as it is the principle? One's reason for doing what they do with your monster or whatever could reflect on how much of a jerk they are. D:

I mean, would you care as much if someone attacked the thing and apologized? Not really. [At least, I wouldn't. xD] But if someone attacked the thing and said something to just be mean or just 'cause they could or something, then I'mma be guessing you'd be pretty cheesed off, huh?

If the person apologizes and doesnt do it again than I have no problem at all.

@KasumiAngel
It's due to the fact that there is no threat by insulting someone over the net. If someone does somthing jerkish to me in real life than they have to deal with me (6foot 2 170Lb. roofer). Even if they knew that it would be doubtful if somthing happened (I rarly fight) over the internet there is NO chance that they would have to deal with me in person so people feel more free to do whatever pleases them

If a high level character decides to provoke a poring and just goes afk for the hell of it. Doesn't that in return make you want to ask him, why? And how would you answer that? Because I can, or because there no rule saying I can't?

You do something stupid then its bound to attract some stupid people. If your bored go vend something and do something else. Common sense and it doesnt cost alot of time nor effort to make a vend slave.

As for whether I'd go kill the poring? No, I'd probably have left you and the poring all together. Heck I'd leave you alone even if it was a HO hitting on you for that matter. Why? As high lvl character I got better things to kill, as a nub I'd rather go and kill some popos(poporings) than a poring. Novice pots last enough to make a nub from scratch to first class anyway.

Nowhere had he said he was afk though. For all we know he could be chatting to those around him, in PM, in guild chat, party chat or what not.

Not seeing how it's stupid either. Sure it isn't something accredited at a university, something that will nominate him for a prize in science...but it also isn't something moronic.
