Disclaimer: No, I don't own the manga (or anime, movie, ect) Death Note. this is only fiction. no one was harmed during the making of this fiction... except me, because I sat on a tack...
Death Note

“People, I’m glad you all could make it” The detective, L, spoke, his voice low so as not to arouse suspicion from only-god-knows-who with him. “You see, I have some very bad news..”
His retainer, known as Watari, spoke up after gaining the attention of the occupants of the room; Light, Misa and the other detectives assigned to the Kira case. “As you all know, the manga ‘Death Note’ is highly violent and is unsuitable for younger readers” the older man stopped so as to make certain that he wasn’t being ignored.
“And even though there is a age rating on the books, parents who are too stupid to check the reading material of their children and have allowed the purchase of these books, and are now blaming the bookstores for not warning them and for allowing these children to buy said books” Watari finished, looking around the room at the other occupants.
“Let me guess.. America?” Light drawled sarcastically.
“Light… are you psychic?” L asked, his eyes widening slightly, so much so that the others actually noticed..
“I wish I was..”
L cleared his throat before speaking, “The person responsible for this complaint happens to be a soccer mom, for your information.. If you were wondering, that is..”
“This isn’t fair! Isn’t there anything we can do?” Misa shouted.
“No, unfortunately.. Just because one soccer mom complains, that must mean that she has one million backers” L muttered, glaring at the floor.
The room fell silent as everyone pondered their situation, none of the detectives having any ideas surface at all.
Suddenly, Light broke the silence, asking L the fateful question.
“What was the soccer mom’s name again?”

[ I could see a soccer mom complaining about Loveless (with the shota undertones), Doll, Confidential confessions, Love hina....(<--All of which I like...haha)...but Death Note?!]

[ Why is violence looked down upon, but sexual things not paid attention to?]

OMG!! that is SOOOO funny!! and it ties to a hilarious story i have...
okay so here i am fawning over the new death note volume (it was a while ago) volume four had just come out in print at the nearest borders, and i was going to buy it.
okay so my mom is flipping through it, right? cuz she looked at the cover and it was misa, so she wanted to look through it. i said "okay," because i didn't think there was anything bad. and i thought she trusted me that much.
and she flips to the part where light is hugging misa (who's crying) and smiling evily. mom starts givin me this crap about how it's unfeministic and looking down on women, and i'm like "MOM! MISA'S A FLIPPIN DITZ, OKAY? SHE'S THE ONLY STUPID THING IN THIS F*&%$ING MANGA!" scream
so we walk out of the store, and in the car, i explain the entire plot of death note from the beginning to where i was (around volume 6 at that point) sweatdrop
and the next time we go to borders i ask "can i get death note?" and she says casually "sure."
i don't think she understood the plot that well, but she never complained about buying it for me blaugh

the guy in the comic-shop gave me a funny look the first time I bought a Death Note book... after all, there's my in my El Posho school-uniform looking all geeky and sweet buying a book about a mass-murderer..! But yeah, they all know me now and recommend all the new stuff when it comes in, whcih is quite nice...

Yeah, see, I have a story like that too.
Mrs. D. (a teacher): "Hey, Adrienne ((me)), I've heard a lot about this "manga" stuff that kids are reading. I'd like to learn more about it. Do you have any recommendations? I know you like it too."
Me: "Oh, there's this one manga I love - it's intelligent and just outright awesome."
Mrs. D. : "What's it called? Maybe I'll read it."
Me: "Dea-........Ummm..."
Mrs. D. : "What? What'd you say? I couldn't heare you."
Me: "...Ummm... *cough* Well, actually, I forgot, the book I love is a real book - it just has lots of cool pictures. Anyway, um, I can't recommend a good graphic novel series right now... Maybe I'll find one later...?"
Mrs. D. : "Okay..."
...Yeah, I was gonna say Death Note, but then I thought that maybe a series about a crazy serial killer who uses women, a choco-holic, a man with strange habits, a toy obsessed white haired kid, an object called a DEATH Note, with the police, guns, killings, shinigami, and bloody violence and shtuff like that wouldn't be so great in the eyes of a teacher...

And the teacher is the one who banned Gaia, MySpace, and NEOPETS (yes, NEOPETS) from our school... sweatdrop

While we're sharing stories, I shall sing of my sister. We had re-read volumes 2-8 of the series and, well, imagine my surprise when I come outside and discover my sister in full camo with a apple tied to a string that's sitting on the curb, hiding in our ditch.
Me: WTF are you doing?!
Sam: Gonna catch me a shinigami.
Me: ... What, you think Ryuk is gonna come here and think he's back in 'nam, there, Charlie?!
Sam: There's a death note hidden in candy mountain, Charlie... (Points paintball gun at me)
Me: Yeah, you don't wanna do that.
Imagine Dad's surprise- by the time he's home from work, our whole family has pitched a blanket tent in the ditch, some of us playing video games while sis, mom and I sing heartwarming songs about truth, justice, and the obliteration of all other life forms Kira.

Yeah, I told my dad the plot of Death Note and started a speech that went along the lines of, "it's desensitizing you to death!". confused Yeah... Also, on a random note, Neopets is also banned at my school. o.O Weird, no? But then, my school doesn't have school dances (for they're apparently too sexual), and they think That's So Raven is evil. rofl (Yes, I'm being serious!)
