Hi everyone. I'm pretty new at this "photography" thing... So I would like to ask for help. Well, let's say that I have a crappy digital cam, but I think that I can get nice portaits. Now they are just too boring though. I have to take pics of myself, because no one could do it for me, and I always do the same expression, etc. So they look like the same, except the clothes and accessories are different. So what would you suggest for a newbie like me to get a little better, and get interesting and attractive portaits?
Thanks in advance.
(sorry if you can't understand my english that well...)

The Mighty Z-Rex Full body mirror, no flash. Thats my extent of knowledge. I was looking for something more "artistic", and in my concept an artist photo doesn't look good if you see the cam. But thankies! <3

I knew this chick who would take pictures with something (cloth or something) covering the camera, but this little hole so it would take an uninterupted picture but you couldn't see the camera.

Get your art teacher to help you at school or college, or use an auto-timer.
Try soft lights. Cover lights with paper tissue or towels to make it soft, but don't set anything alight.
Go out with friends around town and get shots like that?

Different angles, deep contrast, black and white, and props are my best suggestions. Experimenting with new angles and lighting may be hard to do on yourself so practice with still lifes. Fetish Fearie is great with this. You should look at her stuff for inspiration. Also, I adore black and white photos. There is something so honest about them. I love it. And if you are pretty set on using yourself as the subject, bring in props. Props can be anything; a chair, an umbrella, funky jewelry, a tree... anything.

(sorry if you can't understand my english that well...) Pictures are always best when they're taken when the person doesn't know it.
Go out with a friend one day, bring your camera along and just be creative.
