It just doesn't seem like much of a hoot to have discussions about a subject that everyone agrees with you about.....

Xander LeMagre Actually not every agrees with each other completely. Just check out my Phi and String Theory thread. Agreed (irony, I know). Still, we're both a lot more reasonable than the creationist camps, I would think. So there's no major feud, and the real possibility of resolution. And an occasional intellectual debate keeps everybody sharp, as long as we keep it mature (rare on gaia, some days).

I actually find that general discussion and debate to be better than the feuds that break out with creationists. It's more calm, and you can focus more on facts and logic. Feuds with creationists tend to get a little too heated, and you're more likely to make a mistake and say something stupid. Not that creationists coming in here and trying to bust our chops is a bad thing. Gives us something to react to as a whole. Plus it's fun fightning back xd .

I'm actually a christian (baptist) but the reason I'm here is cause I'm what we like to call "open minded" and find people's reasons for their beliefs interesting. In other words, I'm sick of people saying "I'm so and so cause I am and you're stupid."
This is why we look for intelligent life in space, cause there obviously isn't much here on earth.

Sure, I believe in evolution and all that jazz, but it takes little to no research to argue the other side...

Heh. I followed a link in someone's sig here, mostly because I took offense to being called stupid. I mean, sure, you're entitled to believe in evolution, but I don't call you stupid cause I think you're wrong. I just say I think you're wrong and try to explain as much as you'll let me, why I think that.
You wanna debate? Bring it. I'll do my best to counter your mighty intellect with my puny mind.
*grin*

Evolution logically will occur wherever offspring exist that are similar to, but not the same as, their parents. For example, if there is a harsh winter, 10% of a population might survive. Descendants of this 10% will resemble that 10%, and so are more likely to survive, on average, a harsh winter. Over time, this builds up until two individuals with the same ancestor no longer resemble eachother. This has been observed to occur and lead to the divergence of species; for example, here..

I just joined, and the boards are about to get interesting - I can't resist a good debate. Like she said, I'll try to counter as best as my small, unknowing mind can.
