It was quiet nod that answered Marc's question. Yes, he would walk with the other...

And he had a feeling Haki would booby trap his landing if he didn't try to make up with Marc. Or she'd just waylay him at various positions, and fix herself around his legs.

As they began walking, the mage kept his eyes on the ground for a few moments, before raising them as he spoke.

If he was going to say this, then he had to say it now.

"I...I want to apologize. My views have not changed, but I should have kept my temper."

And Hadrian wasn't just apologizing for that. Wordlessly, not even telling Marc of it, he was apologizing for what had happened later that evening.

Just, possibly right after, Marc blurted out.

((And holy crap I'm going to have fun twisting Hadrain around. XD))

"I almost called the police." they walked, and Marc didn't care where. Partially he was following Hadrian. Partially, he let his feet do what his mind didn't have the space for. "You didn't come here, you didn't come home. I thought something happened to you. That you were... hurt." he swallowed, letting the words rush out. "But I didn't. Because I didn't think you'd want the attention, fi you were okay."

Then, then he let Hadrian's words process, and he swallowed. He laughed. He had been given the time to think about this, after all. "I was so ******** worried. And then I heard you were here. That... you weren't hurt. You hadn't been kidnapped and..."

He stopped, then. He didn't look up. He didn't want to. How pathetic, how cowardly.

Without even realizing it, Hadrian had walked with Marc into the gardens; normally, he didn't come here. But he was just a mite bit distracted, so he didn't pay any attention.

At hearing Marc's words, the guilt that Hadrian had been feeling just intensified.

He hadn't thought that his lover would - well, would be so worried.

Stopping as well, he turned to face Marc...noting, with a bit of shock, that the other man for once was looking at the ground. That...well, that was usually what Hadrian was doing when they made up.

"I'm a mage, Marc. I can defend myself..."

From direct attacks, anyway. Sneak attacks and manipulation worked very well.

"But...I'm sorry for making you worry. I wasn't really thinking that night, at all."

Sorry.

Sorry sorry sorry.

"Can you? From what? A bullet? A gang of men? Of women? Of children?" he looked up. "I know you're a _mage_ Hadrian. But I don't know anything else. I know of mages whose powers are limited to growing greens. I don't know what you can and cannot do!"

He stopped. Swallowed. Sorry?

"I'm sorry too." he said quietly. "For taking your words the wrong way. For attacking." he stopped, looking up. Cowardly. Cowardly. "I don't like the thought of you not liking a part of me."

A part that he probably wouldn't stop being. It made him, after all. But he didn't want to say that. He didn't know how to say that.

Hadrian didn't like it that there was a part of Marc he didn't like, either. But...well, he was beginning to think that the part wasn't going to change; it was Marc.

"I...well, I'll just have to deal with it. It's just one part of you, after all...I love you. So I can handle little bits I don't like."

And at the comment prior to that - it had never occurred to Hadrian that while he might not know things about Marc, Marc didn't know some important things about him as well. Like the extent of his magic.

"And...I should have shown you some of what I can do, rather then just assuming you knew.

There was that word again, and Marc visibly softened. "I do too." he said quietly, somberly, as if this time the word deserved some more merit than he could give. He smiled, hesitantly. But with enough strength that it could stay. This was...

"This is awkward." he said voicing his thought outloud, and he nodded. "I should have told you myself... instead of keeping it as a secret." He sighed, a little bit of him relaxing.

"So you're okay then? Nothing happened? Nothing you had to repulse yourself?"

He looked the mage steadily in the eyes, this time

"Yes, I'm fine."

Hadrian didn't want to lie to Marc...but he couldn't tell him. No, he couldn't tell him about Thorn. If he did...

Well, Hadrian had a feeling that while Marc was willing to accept an argument, he was not willing to accept that his lover had cheated on him. With his boss.

No, that wouldn't go over well.

So he said only that, and smiled at Marc.

"How about...we retry that date again? Only this time, without arguing."

Marc paused, and smiled. He nodded, and he reached for Hadrian in reflex. Instinct almost. He needed to touch the man, to know that he was here, with him, this time.

"Alright." he smiled. "No arguing."

((wrap?))
