I noticed as I was watching Kenshin put his sword back in his sheath the other day that Watsuki made a loop hole out of it.

When Kenshin replaces the sword in the sheath he does it in a way that to me oesnt make any sense because of the sakabato.

Just in case you dont rememeber or dont pay attention to that here is a refresher.
As some some of you have noticed Kenshin pulls his sword back into his sheath in a way that makes his sword vertical to the ground. Now doing it this way would make it so that the back edge of the sword (or what is usualy the dull part of the blade) slides against the sheath till the tip and then is pushed into it.

But if you remeber a sakabato is sharp on the other side so techniqally if you think about it, Kenshins sword would be cutting at his scabbard(same as sheath). Does anyone see this? or want to elaborate?

Well I don't have a book handy but that's an interesting detail...either Watsuki did this on purpose somehow because there some hidden reason behind that... sweatdrop or he thought people wouldn't notice this...

Well, the sheath is made of steel. The Sakabatou can't cut its own sheath.

yes it could just because it has a revised blade dosent make it any different from a real sword and a real sword could cut through a sheath with proper force

Whoa, that made me confused... But I kinda see what you are saying. However, I do agree that the sheath is made of steel and it isn't like Kenshin wanted to attack his sheath so he would probably take the precaution of not putting away his sword too hard.

both of the sheaths I have are made of wood. I dont know that I have seen many sheaths that are compelty wood. Even so, when the sword is pulled back into the sheath your thumb and pointer finger are very close to the sword when its pulled in.

Yes, and your first finger is still close if the blade edge is on the other side. This is why an experienced swardman would not let his finger slide off of the sheath when putting his sword away. It is an interesting delema though.

It's not like Kenshin is going to try and see how fast he can sheath his sword. Though taking it out....

No...because a battojutsu that is performed at a fast rate has the sword slammed into the sheath, then unsheathed, while pulling the sheath back adn the sword forwards, putting more stress on the inside of the sheath. So in a fast battojutsu double the amount of stress it put on the sheath. THat is why kenshin's sheath is ALL STEEL, otherwise the blade would slice the sheath and the wood would warp.

his sheath would have to be all steel if he could use it to break Jin-e's arm. if it was wood and he hit it at that impact, the sheath would break.

you know later, after kenshin's sakabato is broken, he gets the final sakabato and the hilt and sheath are made of wood. Is it possible that they would line the inside of the sheath with metal or something?

well yeah the sheath is pretty hard if u look at katanas nowadays the sheaths are pretty much metal. and besides nto many people could cut through metal without putting a lot of force behind it and i dont think putting it in horizontally is a very hard force to technically he wouldnt cut it. and watsuki probably designed it so the battoujitsu could be performed correctly, wouldnt be right the other way and it looks like a the way a real sword is supposed to look, i mean it is a real sword the only difference is the blade is backwards O.o. as u can tell from some episodes they cant tell it's a sakabatou unless they already konw or if kenshin pulls it out

they dont line it with metal, if u saw the wooden hilt broke and they put the "modifications" i guess u could say to make it look like a real sword i.e. he got a metal sheath and a metal hilt put on it after it broke
