Kotai clenched his jaw at the news. "Cowardice in Fire Country? I won't hear of it. A ninja must be proud to put their life on the line for their country and loved ones. I'm going to have a talk with the next Hokage about this..." Kotai smoothed back his hair and sighed, letting the momentary anger dissipate before turning back to Hinata with a sad smile.
"Shall we get ready, love?"

::she sighed, casting her eyes upwards for a moment before pushing herself out of her chair. She would have liked for once if people could actually just leave them in peace, but that was not going to happen anytime soon::
If help is offered this time then I shall be glad to accept it.
::she looked over at Kotai with sad eyes::
We cannot stand another attack on the village, no now, not outright. We still lack formal leadership.

Kotai caught hold of her hand with a reaffirming squeeze. "We'll do what it takes to make our home safe again. Safe for our friends, our family, and for us." The stout tone of his voice made it all the more believable, that this time it would really happen. His face softened and he smiled up at her, "We'll do it together, love."
Elsewhere, Aburame messengers were spreading out to the other clans, and provisions and armories were being unlocked and distributed. It was time to prepare.

We do what we must do then
::she gave Kotai's hand a squeeze and went off to gather a few things from home. It would be best to get this done as quickly as possible::

Hitokage knocks on the old man's door, mumbling to himself. Things were in kind of a sorry state lately. Ever since he'd come back, well, recently anyways, it seems like morale was really low. He had an idea or two on how to improve that..but first, he had to talk to the Yama-jii and see if he could swing those ideas by him. He couldn't really do anything without the okay of the geezer.
"Yo, Yama-jii? You home, or are you sleepin' again?"

"Both." A loud yawn could be heard on the other side of the door. "Come on in already if you're going to..." There was a hammock situated beside a laden desk of papers and flyers, and in that hammock rested an ancient man, his beard and moustache running together into one long avalanche of snow-white hair, trussed up 3/4ths of the way past his chin for neatness.
Beside him on the hammock sat the treasured Hokage Ornament, it was the conical hat that commonly distinguished kage from ordinary ninja. His body was covered in a black yukata with white drape, stylized with the kanji for Fire across both in brilliant red.

"Jeez. And I thought I slept a lot. Looks like you've made the office pretty comfortable since you took up temporary office. This brings back a lot of old memories..man..I remember back when you were..hm. No, you were always old, I guess you just had less beard."
He sighs, and flops down in a seat, and scratches the back of his head before smoothing out his long moustache. It's been a long time. This really brings back memories for him..he can't help but smile.
"Anyways, the fact is, ever since I came back not that long ago..and was able to move around again, I've noticed morale is way down. So down in fact, it's like there's a raincloud over the village all the time. I had a whacked out idea..an idea that not only might raise village morale, but let us gather intelligence and on top of it all, get the business idea I had off the ground.."

*Shunketsu had prepared both Saeko and Hoshi, the guides to the enemy base, for the trip ahead of them. Although a little reluctant to go up against what they thought was so powerful, they had hope that they could defeat this menace with the likes of Kotai on their side. Shunketsu also planned to tag along.*
Shunketsu: We meet the others at the gate before heading out to meet up with reinforcements from Sand and Cloud, along with possible help from other villages.
Saeko: hai hai...but Shunketsu, are you sure you wouldn't rather
Shunketsu: my personal issues will come later. This is an immediate threat.
Hoshi: we must respect the man Saeko, he outranks us now, with our absence and everything.
*Only about 10 chuunin-jounin nin could be spared for the battle at hand. The others had already been sent on other missions to help the village. As they all got ready, they approached the gate and waited for their commander...*

::it didn't take her long to quickly gather her things. She traveled light with only a few weapons, her medical supplies, and some rations. For a moment she sat on the edge of her still rumpled bed, her head in her hands. She had worked so hard for so long to try to help bring peace to leaf but that peace seemed nowhere in sight. And now, they were being forced to the offensive::
::with a sigh she stood, taking one last look around, strapping the small knives to her legs, grabbing her bow in its case along with its full quiver. She went through the door, shutting it for what she hoped was not the last time::

arrow Leaving the Forest
Kotai took 2 Aburame ANBU with him as he left the manor, bowing once to his staff of servants and guards. "We'll meet again." He turned from his family members and bounded through the trees out of the forest. At the edge of the greenery, he met up with two of his Akimichi cousins who'd agreed to aid him, the rotund Jounin joined with the ANBU and the five of them headed down the thoroughfare.

Kotai arrived at the gathering point with his small crew, arrayed in his usual battlegear. He carried two hefty sacks bulging with what sounded like pills, and a new pouch filled with odd vials and scrolls. His group spread out around the other Jounin and Chuunin and formed a perimeter as Kotai awaited Hinata.
"Gear check. Does everyone have their scavenged weapons?" Nods all around. "Negators?" Again, nods. "Good, the other Villages sounded in, they've already dispatched their teams. The waypoint is closer to Leaf, so we'll make it there first."

The old man shifted one large, white eyebrow upwards as he observed his former pupil with one piercing eye of resilient blue and ice. "Fu fu fu... you and your ventures... even if I said no, you'd still continue talking, so might as well get this -unf- over with." He shifted around in the hammock and laid back down, stifling a yawn. "Let's hear it."

"Heh. You know me too well..but then again, you were my teacher for how long..? So I guess being surprised by that is kind of pointless, even for a student as dense as I was.."
Though he lies, he was damn sharp..but he was never one to dote on his own skills; unless it happened to be cooking. Still, he stretches and flops back into a chair himself, taking on the usual relaxed pose he had with his old sensei. This was the one man he could totally relax around and know that he wouldn't be in trouble for having his guard down.
"Well, the Chuunin exams usually draw all sorts of talent..though I use the term loosely in some regard. Right now, alliances are pretty unstable, and relations are kind of at an all time low. Pops always used to say 'Good food satisfies more than the flesh, it also satisfies the soul, but a good fight gets the soul and body hungry'. I guess the gist of it is, right now, a lot of villages that aren't at war are on the verge of it, or at least something like it. Why not extend an invitation to all of the villages we know won't try to outright sack us, to a fighting tournament? We can have it in leagues; Genin and Chuunin in one league, Special Jounin and Jounin in the other league."
He yawns then, the old man's tiredness affecting him as it always did..a sleepy look on his face..
"I can commandeer some kids to help me with the cooking and catering for the whole thing, and we can use the fight to observe the fighting styles of anyone who might one day become an enemy..or friend. The prize will be up to you, really..but most likely what would draw other villages that are ailing would be a promise of support money for their people and a chunk of it for the winner himself..or, if possible without compromising ourselves, a trade of techniques between the village of the winner, and us. If one of our own wins it, we can substitute technique trades for either a raise in rank for the winner, or advanced training towards a raise in rank for proving themselves in battle. All in all, it's a good way to raise morale of our own village and get involved in relations with others. I just hope such a competition wouldn't get ugly. It's the only problem with these kinds of things. I guess like you used to say, what was it..? Rely on the good nature of others, but don't expect others to be good natured..something like that. It's been a long time.."

::she started off at a brisk jog, passing houses that were mostly repaired, though still showed hints of the tragedy that leaf had suffered. Houses stood ready to either be defended or abandoned at will, few luxuries were to be seen and the village had taken on a drab look, as if reflecting the hearts of its inhabitants::
::it would not take her long to reach where Kotai waited, a breif smile crept onto her lips as she saw him double and triple checking things, making sure that all was in order. It still amazed her that underneath that supposedly calm and collected exterior was someone capable of such anger::
::she slowed to a walk and met up with the rest of the group::

*With preparations just about complete, Shunketsu, Saeko, and Hoshi arrived at the gate.*
Shunketsu: "alright, if we're all present, we'll head out to a predesignated checkpoint to meet up with additional reinforcements. I plead with all of you to look past any and all grudges you may hold against these villages because we'll need all the manpower we can muster to eliminate the common threat. So, if there are no objections, let's head out."
*Shunketsu, Saeko, and Hoshi headed out first, with some chuunin and jounin following closely, being that an eye must be kept on Hoshi or Saeko, being that they've been missing-nin for all this time."

Kotai's professionally neutral face broke into a smile as he welcomed Hinata over. "All set, Hinata-chan? Let's head out." He asked with the lack of that hard edge to his voice that he used to speak to his subordinates, showing a great deal of respect for her.
ANBU 1 positioned herself on the right side of Hinata, and ANBU 2 took up Kotai's left with the two Jounin taking up the rear. Konoha's second group was out of the gate and moving along with Shunketsu's group.

Yama-jii didn't seem to be listening at first, and he merely let out a sigh. "There goes the strike force. I probably should have seen them off, but they'll be just fine. It is a nice day for a nap, after all..." He turned his head over to his former pupil and sighed. "You speak the truth. I had come to that conclusion myself, but without the proper contacts or time, I am unable to manage such a meet. I will leave the arrangements with you, Hito-kun, you have my permission." The old man reached inside of his yukata like he was going to scratch his chest, but rather pulled out a document signifying his approval for a multi-national tournament under Hitokage's management, and an allocation of funds required to bring this about. He tossed this over to Hitokage and rolled over in the hammock. ... He'd been expecting this.

Hitokage catches what's thrown at him, and puts it away. He stands to look out the window and gives a sigh of his own. If he were younger, and Konoha didn't need at least some people on the homefront, he'd have gone out with something like that himself. But those days were long since over; he wasn't a young ninja anymore..he hadn't been for years.
"Domo, Yama-jii. I'll have it setup within the next few months most likely. With war going on, I can't just expect it to happen right now. I look down on the young people and I can't help but remember when I was as ready to fight for freedom as they seem to be. I guess as you get older you realize that there are some things still worth fighting for..but you're not as quick to fight anymore as you used to be. The impetuousness of youth..I miss it in a way. But that's an old story."
He stretches and heads to the door then...
"I know you'll sleep well. I sure wouldn't want to be the enemy that roused you out of your rest starting mischief. Under that old beard and sleepy eyes, you've still got a phoenix buried somewhere.."
