I think this racism thing is stupid. Black people get all offended when someone who's not black calls them a ******. But they go around being just as racist as we are/were. They go around calling up whitey, and cracker and I'm sure that there are plenty of other derogatory remarks thrown at white people too. If they're going to call names they should expect to be called names back, and the same seems to go for all races, they're all still racist.

In my opinion-and I noticed someone else said this as well- I believe that by them using it they are trying to take away its power. If you have noticed many curse words have become much more commonly accepted in the world because of constant use. I think the same thing is starting to apply with those words. The more people are using them the less they mean and the more they become just another word. Its more and more widely accepted to curse and even television is starting to let words such as "b*tch" "sh*t" and what not be said on publicly shown tv shows. I remember when there was controversy about Law and Order using one of those words in an episode and people tried to stop it from being aired, where as now if you turn the televison on you see several shows that will use one or both of those words if not other curse words. My point is they may feel that if they use it enough and make it more accepted to hear and say that it will lose its power and people wont make such a fuss anymore.

As long as people aren't segregating buildings or punching different races in the street I have no problem with racists. I can roll my eyes at them and move on.
I think racist jokes are hilarious and I'll tell you why. Taking a serious topic lightly, taking something that is taboo and putting it into a humorous context makes things especially funny.
d**k Cheney shooting a guy in the face isn't funny, of course, but d**k Cheney shooting Bjork by mistaking her for a quail gives me the giggles.
People worry about racism too damn much. The world needs more pansexuals and more panfrienduals. rolleyes

dboyzero First of all, that is NOT where the word "******" comes from, it is derived from the term "negro," which is derived from the Latin word for the color black, which itself is derived from "necro," the word for death. The word "niggardly," meaning stingy or cheap, also came from the same root, and was then applied to the Jews. In any case, I think that people will sort it out for themselves, and that we shouldn't make any action to correct them. If people are comfortable with saying it, that's their perogative, if not, they won't use it. I, personally, am not comfortable using the word (even typing it out makes me cringe a little), so I usually don't, unless I'm using it to explain something like I did here. I also have problems with other racial monikers, such as "gook" and "c***k," since I am of Asian descent. In any case, I would advise not using any of those words unless you know the people you are using it with will be comfortable with you using it. It is for this reason that I curse much more liberally when around friends than when I am around family. Same words, different crowd. sorry but the first part of your statement is halfway-correct. the word ****** dosnt come from the word negro alon, it came from the workd ignorant and ******. and it wasnt only used to describe africans, it was used to insult anyone of low intelligence (sorry im not realy good at spelling)

"I just can't believe that every single cop that arrests a black is racist, that's just insane. I can understand that their frusterated by having been oppressed for hundreds of years, but I think they're going about this the wrong way. Especially since so many people have accepted them as an equal. Will they ever be satisfied?"
I also think that blacks shouldn't refer to one another in such derogatory terms. However, I do not agree with your other statements. For example, the above quote shows that you are, indeed, not black. The battle against racism is not an easy battle(even if the statement is corny) In reality, I consider it impossible, there will always be racist people. I think that you're confusing "de jure" racism with "de facto" racism. "De jure" racism is reflected on racist laws that do not respect the human rights of every citizen. "De facto" racism is a more complex type of discrimination that is often not direclty typified in law, but is reflected in society. You cannot state that "de facto" racism is gone because you cannot speak for every individual in this country. For example, many blacks still do not have the same access to a good education like their white counterparts,
Also, why should blacks go to Africa? After all, they are not Africans. Yes, they are Americans. After all they speak English, participate in American society and have been born in the U.S. They do not hve to be interested in Africa. I know that you're intentions are honest, but you should be more careful with this kind of argument. Many racists, like Lincoln (yes, there are several letters that proved his racism) argued that blacks should return to their "homeland", Africa. Their homeland is America and , until people are able to admit that, the "fight" against racism will go on.

Just some things I saw on the first page and decided to comment on..that's about it. On with the Show! Malekhi just for the record... my family is a white family, and my brothers and friends call each other ******, so what does that tell you?? that tells me that there are no black people around to tell them otherwise and that you live in a fairly rich area. that'a very discriminant though of mine and judgemental, but it's the world of today. I don't think the black teens of today should be showing resentment against the white teens. the white teens didn't enslave anyone and if their anscestors did that doesn't define who the teen is today. AgentPingoX69Oo 2) It wasn't reffering to their race, per say. The word '******' means an uneducated, unintelligent person, and to the Europeans/Americans who went there for slaves, they were indeed niggers. They managed to use their Tribal hate for each other to have them trap each other. They saw this as stupidity, hence, niggers. yah, I think it's pretty ironic that the start of slavery was the Africans own fault. They wanted guns to fight their neighbors in battles that I think the Europeans helped spur. so they traded their prisoners of war (ppl from other tribes) for guns. an endless cycle ending up..well, you know. dboyzero First of all, that is NOT where the word "******" comes from, it is derived from the term "negro," which is derived from the Latin word for the color black, which itself is derived from "necro," the word for death. The word "niggardly," meaning stingy or cheap, also came from the same root, and was then applied to the Jews. actually the word "niggardly" comes from a very different word. it comes from "the Old Norse verb nigla, meaning 'to fuss about small matters'" and "'******' derives from niger, the Latin for 'black.'" You were close tho. (Reference: http://www.reference.com/browse/wiki/Niggardly)

I find it annoying that they find it offensive when we (whites) say it, and then they go and say it to each other - no biggie! It really annoys me how they can be so hypocritic. It caused so many problems and now suddenly its no big deal. What's the catch?

Preface: I don't want to come across as rude or offensive so if I seem that way to you please PM me and I will re-write this I don't care how picky you are I promise that if you PM me about any post I will make the best response possible.
Ok: WHY!!! WHY does it matter? We know this very well in our society today. A person is a person. Color is just a difference in our melanin in our skin. Can't we move past past prejudices? Jesus provided salvation for all races(No debates now please. I just what you to understand where I come from) equally! What does it matter?
(Like I said. I want to come across strongly but not offensive) Thanks, bugguy

when a normal person is called by a name, he/she tends to respond with it. when an intelligent person is called by a name, he/she then corresponds the name on what name he/she was addressed to, then tries to promulgate it to her/his mind if that word suit her/him and responds intelligently.
but that is not that fact.
Black people are not the only one's being discriminated in this universe. Racism has a broader meaning. Racism demeans. Racism won't stop unless everyone stops being stupid and so full of herself/himself..
sorry, if im too dumb to comment on these thread...

Harbinger of Hate sorry but the first part of your statement is halfway-correct. the word n****r dosnt come from the word negro alon, it came from the workd ignorant and n****r. and it wasnt only used to describe africans, it was used to insult anyone of low intelligence (sorry im not realy good at spelling) I'm just curious as to where you found this etymology because every source I've seen agrees with dboyzero that the word comes from the Latin word for black.

Toxic Oven Toast In my opinion-and I noticed someone else said this as well- I believe that by them using it they are trying to take away its power. If you have noticed many curse words have become much more commonly accepted in the world because of constant use. I think the same thing is starting to apply with those words. My point is they may feel that if they use it enough and make it more accepted to hear and say that it will lose its power and people wont make such a fuss anymore. This is why I find the English language so fascinating: because it is always changing! Look at the word Yankee. While we're not entirely sure where the word came from, we do know that it was first used by the British as a derisive term for New Englanders. Now, the word can refer to all Americans, Northerners within the US, or even a beloved (to some unfortunate souls wink ) baseball team--and there is nothing derisive about it. Many even take pride in being known as a Yankee. At the moment it seems unfortunate that people choose to use what was originally a derogatory term to refer to themselves. And the N word is not the only one. It is becoming increasingly popular among women to refer to their good friends using terms like B***h and C**t, words whose use would have been unthinkable only a few years ago. However, it is not unheard of for the meaning of a word to change due to popular usage. If people want to take a negative and turn it into a positive, more power to them. In the mean time, everyone should be careful about using any word that could be offensive, if only because there is no reason to throw logs on the fire.

If they feel the need of it, they may even use "son of a b***h" instead of ******. I think it's just a matter of emotion if you feel insulted by it or not, so it doesn't matter. I have been called ****** myself, without being black. I only wondered about the stupidity of many people.
My friends and me even throw words like b***h a*****e or slut on each others head, without taking it serious. I think "Little Johnny" is just a kid, kids do mistakes, I did myself equal mistakes, too, but I never meant it serious.
It's just the noise making the music, just take care about what you say to people and with what intentions and you'll go a safe way.

Okay i didnt read the whole thing cuz it was just to damn long but i think i got the gist of it
I think the word niger or niga or whatever is the most stupid, ******** up word ive ever heard, i think its wrong for blacks to think its ok to call themselves that, i dont think anyone should use the word period , and i think that people are insulting themselves and their race (if theyre black), and i think people who call white people ******/*****/or ***** wanabe or any variation of the word are all dumb ******** who need to get a life and learn some new age insults
conclusion *****: stupid a**, dumb ******** of a word , noone should say it ever
