Finally, rain! It splattered against the windowpane and created a myriad of abstract patterns on the glass. Linnea sat on the carpeted floor with her nose smushed up against the pane, watching the drops as they decended. "Look. Rain."
Any other day Ren would have splashed about in her cup, creating a spray that might rival the storm outside, and vocalize about the weather or the artwork on the window or something entirely random. Instead she just took a deep breath and stared into the depths of her glass, whose contents were still enough to resemble glass.
"Wanna go out?" Linnea prodded, poking the glass on the table lightly. The movement sent a ripple through the still liquid, the only movement that had been observed in some time. The absense of the usual effervescence was observable in the liquid, but also the girl who sat as still as a statue, and Linnea was becoming increasingly worried.
Ren was motionless for several long moments. Finally she moved slightly, shrugging her shoulders. The movement caused another small wave of ripples in the glass, which calmed down almost immediately.
Before Linnea could take another crack at things, the door burst open and Eriol flew into the room, propelled by his tripping over the doorstep. He flailed ungainfully for several seconds before falling on the floor with a loud thud that shook the room. "Ow. That effin hurt."
"Are you okay?" Linnea asked, hands firmly around the cup. What if it had tipped? That would be just awful. Once she was sure that Eriol was fine, she sneaked a peek at the glass, just to check on it.
There were ripples in the liquid again. But this time Linnea could not view the movement as a good thing. Ren was shivering, her trembles so violent that made the entire glass vibrate. Her face was frozen in an expression of terror, and she hugged her arms tightly as if protecting herself from the world.
Linnea shook a little herself at the sight, but held the cup close to her. She wasn't going to let anything happen to her friend. She would fix things. She had to.

The depression doesn't yet disappear, going so far as to cloud her normally clear liquid. She continues to be flat, flat, flat. The cloudy liquid is a dull gray, uninviting, and seemingly uncomfortable to be in.

"Ew." Eriol examined the glass, taking in the fizz-less, gray liquid. "That stuff looks disgusting."
"Shh," Linnea hushed, looking at Ren with alarm. What if she'd heard? She didn't want her friend and her brother to be mad at each other, not over something so silly.
If Ren did hear, she showed no sign of it. Instead she simply raised one arm a few centimeters out of the drink, letting the liquid drip off her and back into the cup. Then she sighed, let her arm fall back in with a slight splash, and tilted her head back down. She didn't look at Linnea or Eriol, and hadn't said anything in days.
Eriol held the glass up to the light, letting a few errant rays of sun shine through it. "Sorta looks like she's melting."
"Don't say that!" Putting her hands to her mouth, Linnea looked fearfully from Eriol to Ren. If her friend was melting, that would just be awful, especially if it was somehow her fault.
"Jus sayin," muttered Eriol. "Like the color's washing out of her. Not that she had much color anyways, with-"
"Stop," Linnea begged. "Please."
Eriol looked at Linnea, then smiled and rubbed her head lightly. "Don' worry. She'll be fine. I think."
Completely unresponsive, Ren continued to look straight ahead, as if in a daze.

Finally, finally, Ren seems to have a better day. Her liquid hasn't cleared, but a couple of soupy bubbles have popped to the surface. Is her fizz coming back?! And not a moment too soon!

"LOOK!"
The shout was so startling that Linnea, who had been napping, sat up with a yelp and flailed. The action caused her to topple out of bed, and she fell to the floor, scraping one of her fin-wings in the progress. She didn't have time to worry about that, however. Before she could even stand up she was hurrying for the table in the other room, crawling on her hands and knees. Did she really hear that?
"Look!" Ren repeated. She was alert and looking at Linnea, but only for a couple of moments. Then her gaze was back in the glass, watching a large, milky bubble float lazily to the surface. "Look! It's a bubble!"
They were the first words Ren had spoken in several days, and they made Linnea burst out into a big smile. "It looks great!"
Ren smiled meekly. "Do... do you think they're coming back?"
Linnea wasn't sure she wanted to answer that. The bubble was big and sluggish and didn't look anything like Ren's normal bubbles. But she couldn't say that without worrying the small girl. So she nodded, putting her hand around the glass. "Wanna go outside?"
After a moment's thought Ren's smile faded, and she shook her head. The bubble popped, while another began to form near the bottom of the glass. "I just want to watch a little."
Still worried, Linnea had no choice but to let her be. "Okay. Maybe tomorrow."

Her liquid clears a while more, until it's only a fair bit cloudy, and the bubbles start returning. But they start getting a little...aggressive?? Ren starts breaking out...in bubbles!

Finally, it was almost time to go home. Linnea and Ren had at least managed to get outside a little bit, and explored the hotel a fair bit after Ren had recovered from her strange depression. The small girl still had bouts of quietness, which Linnea actually found a relief, but all in all seemed to be much more like her old self.
So when she heard a scream from the living room, Linnea dropped the blanket she had been folding and bolted, terrified of what could be happening now.
"No no no!" Ren held her arms out in front of her, batting them against each other. Her actions were amusing to watch, but did nothing to stop the fizz that raced through her body, making it bubble oddly. "Stoooop! This feels icky!"
Perching at the edge of the coffee table, Linnea's eyes widened. "What happened?"
"I don't know!" Ren moaned, swatting a particularly large bubble that was emerging in her chest. "It just... happened! I wanted the bubbles to come back, but not like this! Make it stop!" Another swat, another bubble, this one on the surface of her leg. Before long Ren was hitting herself all over, and looking miserable.
Linnea was definitely disturbed. Before, Ren hadn't been upset, but she hadn't been happy either. She just hadn't been anything. Whether that was better or worse than the dismayed bubbling that made her friend smack herself was debatable. Personally, Linnea just wanted things back the way they were.
Hugging her small frame with fizzing fingers, Ren looked up at Linnea. "I don't want people to see. Please?"
"Well..." Looking at Ren's hopeful expression, Linnea nodded. They would figure somethin out.
