Last night I was thinking about everything and then started thinking about god and the devil. I have come to the conclusion that they are one in the same (if they were real) because Hell would be a punishment for those who did not do good deeds and such, while Heaven is a reward for doing good deeds. The Devil is just another version of God because if you think about it they are both trying to do what they feel is right and I'm sure that without one or the other order and such would collapse because they couldn't balance themselves. Just so you know the movie Little Nicky inspired me to think this. And this is just an if they were real thought because I know neither Heaven nor Hell is real.

Well... when did Satan appear in the bible anyways? And the christian/jewish god is just a bunch of older religions mixed together. Babylonian, Greek, Egyptian, etc. etc.

Lucifer (The fallen angel, not the king) was actually invented around 300 BC.

Nergalitos Lethkhar Lucifer (The fallen angel, not the king) was actually invented around 300 BC. Hmm, I didn't know that. Odd. Well, I think he's based off of a sort of polytheistic religion. I used to know a lot about him, but I've since forgotten. sweatdrop

Whatever it is your smoking please pass it with the rest of us. That is my opinion but your conclusion you base it off a movie. Also there would be conflict with those who believe (mostly from theists) that jesus is God though there are some contradictions. Or from the mostly repeated that Jesus is Lucifer(or you would call him the Devil..He has lots of names lets leave it at that) what you fail to provide is possible verses from what the Theist hold oh so sacred (the buybull ^^)
here is a link with verses that some whacked out Atheist (under the influence of MJ wink )
http://www.timboucher.com/journal/2005/07/30/is-jesus-lucifer/
Oh and for those of you who posted here is my reply
PickleBoy-Each Religion has their own version of hell, underworld, netherworld, nether realm, Ti-Yu, or Jigoku (choose whichever you want they are all the same and I can give you a list of the names it is just the same thing just pick your religion)
Lethkar- The idea or concept of Devil Originated In China which has quite the history so you are pretty off for a couple of hundreds of years
Thatisonesexypanda!- Satan did appear in the bible when he Tempts people, adam and eve, Jesus, and even God himself
Nergalitos- Look into the Yama or Yangluo Wang and you'll see a brief history on the devil
Lethkar- You are right about him being based off of a polytheistic religion I just saw a documentary on that that he might have been based on the Mesopotamian God Pazuzu.
Somewhat accurate input on the Devil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil
That is just my Opinion but I stand by it somewhat I'll have to look into my sources for more info but that is a small list on the devil himself.

That says he started with Zoroastrianism. Isn't that like 6000 B.C. or something? I could've sworn it was 300 BC...

This concept, that is of a single higher-being that is neutral and impartial to our moral code, or any at all, is similarly described in a couple stories from science fiction writer Philip K. d**k, who spends most of his time on hallucinogenic drugs, so it's pretty interesting.
And actually, it's the most accurate concept of 'deity" that I can imagine being possible. I wish I could come up with the exact story off-hand, but it's part of Counterfeit Unrealities. An interesting read at least.

I am uncertain about when it started(the idea of the Devil) and what religion started the idea of a demonic being that rules an underworld.
I do know this though. The Devil and Lucifer are actually two different things. Satan and Lucifer however are the same.
Lucifer was supposedly the most beautiful angel god created. He was also the most loyal. He only bowed before god.
When God supposedly created humans he told all of his angel's to bow before humanity. Basically he told them that they were below humans.
Lucifer did not share that view. He refused to bow and become below humans, and thus he became a fallen angel, cast out of the heavens by his refusal to do Gods will.
So then Lucifer over time becomes the opposite of all that his creator stood for. Then his name changed from Lucifer to Satan, as the one who tempts humans to come to his side.
Hypothetically Satan could actually be a good being, and Hell might actually be a better place than Heaven. However by demonizing his once coveted angel, and by demonizing the place where that fallen angel chose to make his realm....it is a way of turning people from following the one who refused to bow to humanity.
If you think about it, Lucifer(as told by the stories) did only one wrong and that was to refuse to bow to humanity.
What kind of god anyway creates one race of being, and then creates another...and tells the first race they are to bow(and become lower in status) than the new creation?
