It really depends on your style of play. Open bolt gives you much faster firing rates with less chance of ball breakage and jamming. Closed bolt is amazingly accurate, but if you want good rates of fire, you gotta time it, plus you usually have to get some sort of anti ball break eye or something. Both have their pro's and con's.

I like the open bolt because I mostely spray when I shoot. I rely on a good barrel for accuracy. If you are more of a sniper then you should definately get a closed bolt.

Or you could just save up the massive amounts of money and buy an 04 shocker, which combines both the speed of a open bolt and the accuracy of a closed bolt (something to do with how the bolt works, which I won't go into right now).

if i remember correctly, i found somwhere on WARPIG an experiment comparing the accuracy of closed and open bolts in relation to each other. They found that at least for paintball accuracy was not affected by being either open or closed bolt. ill look for it and link when i get a chance.

What type of bolt does the DM4 have. I haven't been able to take a look at one yet.

Now we know that there is no difference in accuracy, how about rate of fire?

I was at the paint shop getting ready for a game today, and I asked the guy if there was any difference in ROF between the two bolt types. He said that there wasn't a difference, at least not a noticeable one. It depends on the quality of the marker. The high quality markers will always shoot faster than the low quality no matter what type of bolt they have. There are only two types of closed bolt markers still in use, one is an older model Shocker, and the other is either a Cocker or Mag that was designed as an extreamly accurate marker intended mostely for sniping. Both of these guns are older, and hard to find because the current trend in paintball is high rates of fire for people like me who mostely sprey'n'prey.
