Now this is a place to talk about Christopher Durang.

If you never heard of this man, then get your mind out of the gutter, and move away from the musicals for a while. I have to say I started reading his stuff when I started high school and some of his humor was a bit too sophisticated. Though I will be a senior in high school next year and now when I read his skits again I laught out loud and it makes me want to read more things about him.

This year I had the chance to be the lead in one of his skits titled Naomi In The Living Room. I was nervous to say that I never thought high school students (even myself) could pull off Durang humor, but it got done. Durang is a little on the weird side. Such as Naomi the skit is about a wacked out mother who is insane, but in the end it turns out her son likes to dress up like his wife and copy everything he does.

Anyway, if you heard of this man do talk on. I love to hear what you guys have to say.

I must say, Naomi in the Living Room is one of my all time favorite scenes by him. I really love it when she finds the pig, screams about kitsch and throws it into the kitchen. He is a hilarious writer, though I've never been able to be in one of his shows, though I almost did Nina in the Morning once.

For those of you who want to bring the topic back to musicals, I recently found out that he was part of the musical review "Putting It Together" with Julie Andrews. Weird.

I did a portion of For Whom the Southern Bell Tolls in seventh grade for speech competitions, and it was a little beyond my scope. (Of course, it didn't help that my teacher gave me the whole script to read, and not Glass Menagerie. How that made sense, I'll never know.)

And my friend Sconey did one of Durang's skits for TMS auditions. It was called Gym Class or something like that. It is generally very hilarious. 'I don't believe in deoderant! Deoderant's for pansies! Any of you buys pansies? I didn't think so. We find a pansy, and we tie him up in the shower and put his head in the toilet. We'll be doing a lot of that this year.'

Plus, our one-act cast did The Marriage of Bette and Boo, which was kind of Durang's autobiographical show. I wouldn't reccomend it if you go to a super conservative school, as there are about a million dead-baby jokes. I was cast as Emily, but was removed (after not being ineligible. whatever) But they won state! So yeah.

But I've never read anything by him that I didn't like.
