Gundam Wing Acronyms
I can’t read Japanese but I recently looked over the lyric booklet that came with the Gundam Wing Operation 3 soundtrack and it contained an information section about AC technology and some rather curious acronyms which weren’t used in the series.
MOBILE Suit: Manipulatavl Order Build and Industrial Labors Extended Suit
I think they misspelled Manipulative and Manipulatvl is a typo. Then again, they may have done that on purpose for reasons I can’t imagine.
GUNDAnum: Genetic on Universal Neutraly Different Alloy
Again, another typo. They spelled Neutrally with a single L.
MOBILE DOLL: Manipulatavl Order Build and Industrial Labors Extended Direct Operational Leaded Labor
ZERO System: Zoning and Emotional Range Omitted System
These acronyms seem a tad nonsensical to me but hopefully some of you guys can shed some light on them. I wonder why these were never used in the series. It’s just like with OZ meaning Order of the Zodiac but never being identified as such. Mind you, I find it a strange coincidence that Dorothy Catalonia insinuates herself into Romafeller and, in a sense, wanders into OZ business due to the war. Is it a reference to The Wizard of OZ wherein Dorothy Gale ends up in the Land of Oz due to a cyclone carrying her off? I mean the war could be a metaphor for the cyclone. Anyway, I’m babbling now but that’s an explanation I thought of for the OZ acronym making it ambiguous to Baum’s novel.
Does anyone have explanations for the other acronyms? I mean, when I saw SEED, I thought it was the first to use acronyms for their terms, but upon seeing this, I now know that Wing used them too. A pity they weren’t applied in the series...

Maybe the acronyms are just to make cool-sounding names make sense in a military context... or maybe the Japanese think that acronyms are cool... alot of games and shows from Japan use acronyms all over the place.

I think someone had too much time on their hands and wanted to see if any one noticed. Although the Japense do love acronyms, maybe they just don't translate well.
As for the Wizard of OZ referance interesting... Does that mean Heero is the Tin Man, Trowa the Scarecrow, Quatre the Cowardly Lion, Wufei Toto, but that would make Duo Dorothy....snicker.... Or would Duo be the Wizard and Relena Dorothy.
No wait I've got it. If Dorothy is Dorothy then Zechs is the Tin Man, Trieze the Scarecrow, Une the Cowardly Lion, Toto would be Otto or Walker. No their both dead. I know Trowa can be Toto undercover yet again.(cool costume)...more snickers... Nah...really it would have to be Noin as Toto.
So does that make Relena the Wicked Witch and the Gundams Her flying monkeys.....Cool!!!!

Okay, that's it. I'm officially lost. I've tried to make sense of some of these, and they simply don't make any sense. It's ridiculous. For instance, what the hell does armor plating have to do with genetics? The "MOBILE" acronym might jive if we assume that OZ created the first Mobile Suits under the guise that they were to be used for civilian labor, but that's all I can think of. The "DOLL" portion of Mobile Doll makes very little sense, though (it seems to be translated strangely).

Actually, I believe MS were made for civilian use (colony construction) first in this universe, and then adapted for warfare later.

They were already in English when I found them in the lyric booklet and that's the way they were written. So I'm not the only one confused by them? As for OZ, I'd think Une is both the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good North Witch since she has a split personality... And Oreasa, I agree, Treize is the Wizard. 3nodding

But strange, how'd they have the OZ reference and a character named Dorothy in one show... is that supposed to be the underlying meaning?
About the acronyms, what the heck does 'leaded' mean? Maybe it's just a translation error... other than that, I can see the MS's former use, just not the MD's.

Part of me thinks that the "leaded" is simply a translation error: maybe it was simply supposed to be "led," as in to have led a group of people.

That's what I thought too, that the MD's would take orders from some higher program and be 'led' by it...

hey, I am from Kansas and the references you make knda pertain to us. but personally If you were to boil it all down you would not find much in common with the wizzard of Oz.however, orrifginally dorthy was a little blond girl not the brown headed rendition of her. and if you readthe books in the Series called Thbe wizard of Oz you will find a lot more charecters than you know from the movie.
