Okay... I'm getting tired of my parents saying that I need a job and I need to find a way to make money and put my "talents" to work. (....I'm 14. >_> ((Turning 15 Tomorrow xD))) I go to an art school, and what they teach there isn't something I plan to make into my future (Art History, Drawing, how to make a "good" drawing, etc.) I love it, don't get me wrong, but I really don't want to have a future in that...

What I do want is to do though is designing, or at least get more involved with the Lolita fashion. For a 14 (15 tomorrow!!!!!) year old girl (Disreguard my gaia avatar) living in the US, it's hard to find a way that I can make myself useful and get a job this way. I am starting to learn to make clothes, and hopefully that will help me more, but what I'm really looking for is ways that I can enter contests and actually be active with Actual Gothic Lolita sites or communities.

Problem though, I can't read Japanese.

If anyone has links to ENGLISH (or French. =D) sites that help you get involved into contests for drawing or making Lolita clothes, that would be wonderful. I'll edit this post with your links so it can be shared with everyone.

Thank you~ <3

I don't know sorry. sweatdrop I know a fun place to work at, that I would want to work at (if I could work) Joanne fabrics! blaugh That way you get lots of discounts on fabrics for your designs.

And that's freaking awesome you go an art school (envies) I would love to go to an art school. whee
I agree with what you say though, I enjoy drawing and art, but it's not somehting I want to make a living and work with.

I'll look up a way to work at JoAnns..

I'M 15 NOW! 3nodding

Maybe they will accept me as a volunteer or something... Thank you!

I found on this Lolita site that someone won a Lolita Design contest with this one picture she drew. I asked her where the contest was held and hopefully she'll tell me?

Hopefully! that sounds fun
You know what you could also do is just get different patterns and piece them together to form your own lolita clothes, so its not necessarily a "copy" of something.

It can be tricky, because different brands have different sizes and way they do things.

Thhhheeeen when you get really skilled of course, you can just make your own!

One day I want to be cool like the people on Project Runway *dreamy eyes*

Project Runway makes me laugh...

But I could make my own clothes if I wanted to and all, I just want to actually be a part of a contest or something, it's fun to compete (in a friendly way) and yeah... sweatdrop

Well, those are high hopes for you immediate future, but...

Try practicing drawing clothes and different fabrics. To through fashion magazines and find little things about outfits you like, and try to put it all together.

Local colleges and universities sometimes have contests for design that you can enter into.
Though drawing has a lot to do with design. You have to know the proper folds and how a fabric would fall and look on the human body..
I don't know any of yet but I could look around for you. Plus you could just search in for a design contest etc.
Truthfully, a lot of successful designers started by just tinkering at home with some junky machines because they loved it so much.
ALSO! High school usually give coarses and you can sometimes find local night coarses etc in your area ( I know we have lots here)

I don't think any of that typing helps you >w<

Thanks I'll look more into that, it did help.
And thanks, everyone else, I'll keep looking around.

www.lolitasnap.com hosts contests from time to time and I heard that there are some in Live Journal communities but those arn't the types of contests i'm looking for.. It's a start though x3
