I saw Wicked over the summer, it was way awesome! Whoever voted it sucked, I'm sure you have your reasons but I must disagree.
I mean you gotta love Elphie and Galinda they're amazing! But I must say that Phantom will always be my favorite.

I can see it already...

Erik (Elphaba): Come with me... to Paris!
Raoul (Galinda): Oh! I've always wanted to see Paris...
Chorus: One short day, in the city of Paris...

Erik and Elphaba are alike though... they both have HUGE tempers, and they both have some sort of deformity.

Raoul: And even in you're case... *takes off Erik's mask* eeew... *puts mask back on* though its the toughest case I've yet to face...

Erik: Tell them how I am defying the light of day! I'm hiding down bellow, avoiding light of day! And soon I'll sign letters with 'O.G.' And nobody, in all of France, no Persian or Fop stands a chance. They're never gonna drag meeeeeeeee out!

Erik'n Elphaba are really the only two things alike in either. Galinda can be either seen as Raoul or Christine, depending on your opinion of either character.

The stories aren't alike though. Elphaba's not trying to seduce anyone (unless we're talking Gelphie, but let's not get into that) and Erik isn't trying to exact revenge on some big, bad Wizard for being a hickety-doo-da a-hole. Elphaba gets her love, Erik doesn't. Though Elphie's kinda.. well... I ain't spoiling that one. I'm too nice for that.

But... Chistery = Monkey Musical Box?

Well, they can't be exactly the same, but:
Erik isn't trying to exact revenge on the Wizard, but he does exact revenge on the people who don't follow him orders. So, they're both vengeful.
And yeah, I know what you're getting at with Elphie.

I think that Christine would fit Galinda only for the fact that she has a relationship with Elphaba, just as she does with Erik. But, the fact that both girls fight over Fiyero, I think Christine would be better suited for Fiyero, and Raoul as Galinda. Besides, can't you just immagine Raoul in a pink dress with a wall full of shoes?

And HOLYCRAP! I didn't even think of that one! XD Chistery as the music box... That could work.

Not really. Glinda is canonically vain. Raoul isn't. And while the concept is funny, I can't see Erik and Raoul as being friends.

I think Nadir should be Glinda. xP But then, that opens up a lot of horrific Erik/Reza slash possibilities that I'm not sure the world is ready for.

Erik's not exacting revenge so much as controlling people. He's like a spoiled child. Don't give him what he wants, something's getting broken in a hissy fit.

And why am I smelling the word "fop" from that statement about Raoul and a dress? *shrug* Raoul's not vain. If he was, he probably would've skittered off by mid-Act 1 and ran with his pantaloons bunched in his hands like a skirt.

Oh dear... I'm picturing the Phantom cast playing in Wicked. *Dies laughing* Mostly I'm picturing Raoul playing as Glinda singing "Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe..." Then Erik going, "BLONDE."
And then the managers talking to Raoul:
"Poor Galinda- er, Raoul, forced to reside
With someone so DISGUSTICIFIED
We just want to tell you:
We're all on your side..."
xp

Haha, that's a very good way of putting it. blaugh

Erik and Elphaba are both ostracized largely due to ther physical appearences. Though because they are of different gender, the ways the handle their problems vary slightly. Also Erik is accustomed to murdering for his and others' sakes. Elphaba murders once or twice, then becomes increasingly paranoid. Also that they both have simliar endings- those who've read the books will understand what I'm speaking of- and that they lose their true loves is very interesting.

Also that both Erik and Elphaba are despised by their mothers; occasionally Melena wasn't as frigid to Elphaba.

The biggest difference is the book Wicked has lots of schmex within its pages. Truly yummy. whee

And that Elphaba has a son and Erik doesn't get with Christine long enough to do that kind of thing... sweatdrop sweatdrop sweatdrop Don't hurt me...
wait wait wait... maybe im forgetting something... Elphaba murders? when? who? god i don't even remember that.

Spoiler Alert! Well, I know she killed at least one person in the book. Spoiler: .She kills Madam Morrible with a trophy while shes sleeping End Spoiler. There may be more, but I'm not sure, it's been about a year and a half since I last read the book

SPOILER: She didn't kill Madame Morrible, she just smashed up her dead body and then told everyone she was the one who killed her. At least, that's how I understood it. End Spoiler.

Anyway, it's late at night right now and parts of this thread are so funny I've been plugging my nose to stop myself from laughing and waking the neighbourhood. It works! But I'm laughing on the inside.

I'm Not a Girl...*plugs nose* Actually, I think my favorite thing that's been posted so far is that "Defying the Light of Day". *plugs nose again*

LOL. I would be great if Erik and Raoul sing "What is this feeling" lol

I remember some fanfics where Erik was paired up with Elphaba *attempts not to laugh and vomit*. She green and he's like half dead. Not a good combination.

Christine would probably be a good Fiyero (if she was more outgoing). It's more like a phanbrat's dream if POTO turned into Wicked.
-Erik will finally get Christine
-Raoul is viewed as a fop that phanbrats think him to be
-it's...gonna get tacky. gonk xd

Both are amazing musicals. I get to see Wicked again this fall. whee I wish there was a cross-over between the two because I think I'd die laughing. There is more of a similarity between Phantom and the book version of Wicked in my opinion though.

*gasp* I saw Wicked last Wednesday and then The Phantom of Opera the next day on Broadway! They were both absolutely fantastic. Yes, when you think about it, Elphaba and Erik are a lot alike . . . but their stories are different in many ways.
