I thought it would be nice if we had a place for everyone who has read the new Merry book, to discuss it without spoiling it for those who haven't read it.

So for anyone who hasn't read it, beware:
THIS TOPIC CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!

I loved this book!!!! I am very concerned about Shoulto. What happened to him? Where was he & what kept him from coming to the commotion?

I really like Adair & I didn't think I would because of Seduced by Moonlight. Same thing with Mistral.

I love that Merry is just getting more & more blessed by the Goddess and I love that the Sithen has come to life again.

I think that when Merry is Queen, she will decree that people can have as many lovers as they want, even if they are married.

GARK! Bad ending!

I was SO irritated when I found out that she wasn't going to do EITHER of the balls in this book! Gark, I say, GARK!

And if I hated Taranis before and plotted nasty things for him, now... now he will truly feel my wrath! *charges at with rusty iron spork*

I also like Adair 3nodding (woot for sunshine boy), though I thought Mistral was a bit irritating... and distracting from the plot. It was like "whee, here she is having a one-time thing to bring back this arrogant dude, and... whee, now back to the rest of her life!" I mean... what was he, a commercial break or something? It didn't quite fit.

The new developments with the demi-fey were intriguing, but I wish there was more about it instead of a quick peek. (And what's with Doyle and Niceven?)

The marks were... strange, if kinda cool. I'm getting a bit worried about where everything is headed, though... what with the door and wall exploding (poor demi-fey! crying ) Of course, I love the fact that the sithen is coming alive for Merry, though maybe a bit less literalism would be healthy... whee

I absolutely love the sithen coming to life. I also love that the Queen is starting to seem a little intimidated by Merry. Of course she is hiding it behind her wrath, but it is there.

I do like the fact that the Sithen is coming to life, but overall I think the series is declining faster than Anita Blake. I think this series just started off in a worse position than Anita. I like it when there's more substance to the plot as opposed to scene after scene of the female leads banging whomever she happens to run into in the hall. xp

I also didn't much care for Doyle's little scene. I like him as the cold, distant straight man. Then again, I don't much care for Frost's pouty brooding. I did want to see Sholto involved in this one, though to be honest, I rather fear any scenes involving him would be like something out of a fetish hentai.

When it comes to Sholto, I dont think that LKH has a chance in hell to write a decent love scene. One thing I know for sure, shes gonna use them tentacles for some sexual purpose, makes you wonder if LKH is into that stuff. eek

Well, she's already explained that the tentacles are a form of sex organ (Kiss of Shadows, in the hotel room scene).

Also... she writes a lot of murder scenes. Does that make her into murder?

I'm not trying to be attacking, I'm just saying that writing about something doesn't really mean you're into it, or even have experienced it before. I've written about things I've never done, and never plan on doing. If you really get into a character's mind, as it were, you begin to realize how very different they are from you personally.

Just a little food for thought... domokun

I get what you mean. It's hard not to read through her books (and other authors too) and wonder just what are they into or have witnessed to come up with some of those kinky love scenes. I know I think the same thing often when reading both series. Especially when she starts devoting entire chapters to oral sex. Sometimes it's funny to me and sometimes I just roll my eyes. Fun either way.

I just finally broke down and finished it all over night. I couldn't stop myself after reading about the sithen returning to life. For a series I never thought I would like the world of Faerie and all it's charms have left me elf struck xp

[[Beware: Having just finished reading this'll probably be long winded]]

Sure there were tons of sex in this book and lots with new guys who haven't really grown on me yet but since the series started with lots of sex and it makes sense with Merry being descended from five fertility goddesses, I wasn't bothered by it the way I would've been if it had been an Anita novel. Sometimes all the sex is kinda boring to me. As if the scenes aren't spread far enough apart. I'll go as far as to say the fact that power and change is born from those scenes makes them worth reading through.

I too miss Sholto. For someone with so little spot light I can't seem to let the character go. He's like Edward in that sense for me. So little of him shown that I have to see more.

Frost and Doyle are still my favorite of the guard. I'm pleased to see some character development going on. Galen not being so oblivios and Frost not being overly pouty is great. Also Andais is growing on me. The Queen of Air and Darkness seems to be growing not only the makings of fear, but some respect as well for Merry, though I'm sure she'd never admit to either. I think she's realized a lot of her faults and is genuinely willing to save her people. Unlike certain Kings of Light and Illusion. I just wonder if when the time comes will Andais really be able to step aside and let Merry rule? Or will it have to come to an "Over my dead body" style battle. I imagine crazy Cel will be around to do some damage and I'm not sure if Andais can be trusted not to let her love for her son cloud her better judgement.. again.

I think that this series has a great plot, and if someone thinks that the books are focusing on the sex then I think it might be because that's what the person who thinking it is focusing on. There's great like sub plots and little mysteries that are constantly being hinted at.
I also like Adair. But I think that Usna and Ivy also seem like some awesome newcomers. I was a bit disappointed when I read the book because it only encompassed on night, but I think that perhaps the length of the book reflects the events that are taking place on the pages (the whole slowing of time thing).
