The ice wall towers into the sky all around the edges of the valley, protecting it from the outside world around it. All along this wall you will find numerous holes and ice caverns, and this is usually where most of the dragons make their homes. Some don't like the fact that it's in ice, but they prefer the "cavern-like" appeal over the open jungle or the lakes below.
Cold breezes and chill winds flow over the wall and into the edges of the valley, making the trees and plants have to be of the more hardy variety. Some plants can even survive being frozen and thawed out repeatedly. But, the tempretures usually don't go below 30 degrees.
In this wall is also another important feature. The entrance for the Mer is located here. On the side of the ice wall facing towards Dragon's Hope, and the Lake, is a large hole. You can walk into this cavern area, but once you get to the back of the cavern you have to stop or you'll walk directly into the lake. The river flows into this cavern, and then when it reaches the back it fills it, so that the water reaches the ceiling, for the ceiling wall slopes downwards.
