Have any of you read it?
Paksennarion (Paks) is a sheepfarmer's daughter. Instead of being wed to a pig farmer, Paks runs away to join a mercenary force. Which begins her involvement in a fight against the Dark Master Liart and the webmistress Archrya and their 50 year scheme to destroy the throne of Lyonya.
The story and characters are very realistic for a fantasy. And it teaches alot about military life and tactics and strategy. It discusses good and evil and what cowardice really is, and the good and bad sides of anger.

I read it, and I think I liked it, but I don't remember it very well (I tend not to remember books unless I've read them many times, and, as I recall, it was rather long for me to do that). I think it has a sequel. Do you know if that one is any good?

They're more like prequels about Gird and his servant. Frankly I was uninterested.

I read that trilogy, I really enjoyed it, too. One thing that really stood out to me about it was that it had a female protagonist, and NO romance at all. Which improved the book greatly in my mind. Quite an enjoyable series, and I recommend Elizabeth Moon's other stuff as well, though it's Sci-fi rather than fantasy.

My husband bought me the trilogy in one book and I have read it at least three times. I love the story and the way the characters develop.

I enjoy military sci-fi, so it was great to read some good military fantasy, too!
