I have a question do I have to cut my nails really short to play guitar? I have had longer nails not too long but they are longer then most peoples nails and I dont want to cut them because I hate short nails and I hate the feeling of paper on my finger tips. so if you have any answers please post them.

It's really up to you. Basically if you can reach the frets comfortably and make chord changes without any problems, let them be.

Um...I cut my nails whenever possible. Having long nails does limit you. If you don't like the feeling, try other ays to play. But cutting of the nails is advised. Because when you break a nail playing, it hurts like crazy...

Im really bad for cutting my nails I always forget but at one time I just cut my left hand and the i left the right hand longer so I could finger pic using my nails. Now I use a pick but its all to how it feels and yes it does hurt when you brake a nail.

Short nails on the left, long nails on the right (so that when you fingerpick it has a nicer timbre).

Dancing with Myself i keep mine as short as possibly, but look at big boobed country star dolly parton- her nails are hella long. haha, yeah. But the nails are short on my left hand an typically unnnaturally long on the right hand.
