Prologue The Viking Gods had always been militant. The fact that all of Greenland ran off of war, it was understandable to all that it was not peace that made the world go around but rather the art of war. The infighting of Scandinavia was an odd thing though as it was not inspired by the King of the Asgardian Pantheon, Odin, but rather his mischievious and often outright evil diety called Loki. Odin's one regret in life had been allowing his child live after the slimy jester had consorted with numerous entities to create something that would render his father blind. But if Odin had not at least saw the point of having his son stay living, the father-god of the Norse would have struck down his son earlier in the child's maturity. There were scarier things than a god enraged though and that was a god that cared nought for anything. You can never trust that they will assist you in battle or even wish to exist. And that was the trouble with Hastes, the God Nothing. No-one but the gods knew about him. There might have been the small majority of mortals that knew of his existence just before he eradicated them. He had cared once but his emotions had washed up after a human had slain his demi-god wife for no good reason. The rampage to follow lasted for over a century as the deity killed every single person that the man had ever met or been related to.

Chapter 1: The Cup of Baldur Baldur sat in his chair drinking wine from a cup. It wasn't the best wine but it was the best that his human subjects had to offer. A gnome named Barrendd sat next to him and told jovial and simply farsical tales to the gathering of women as they gawked at Baldur. The two men were friends and had come to this tavern for many decades now. "Baldur, melad. Watcha looking at ya cup for? It looks gorgeous, friend. It doesn't need any improvement." "There is something wrong with it, Bar. I just haven't detected it yet." The gnome laughed with a jiggling belly, "Can't trust that brother of yours, can yer?" "Thor is trickier than Loki sometimes. I expect that this one will trigger off some sort of ligthning bolt or the like." "I don't know Thor but he seems like a reasonable man. Why worry when there is plenty of women to be grabbed? Hmmm..." Baldur snapped out of it for a moment to think for that split second for his decision, "I am not interested in anybody but Freya. Unfortunately she is married to Odyrr..." The gnome stood up in his chair and face his friend. For a moment he sat there staring. Then, after some time came a loud clap of the little gent's left hand slapping Baldur's right cheek, "SNAP OUT OF IT!"

A loud belly-laugh came from behind them as the man known simply as "Thor" entered the tavern. The mountain of a man had a long golden beard trailing down to his belly button and was a stocky build compared to the much shorter brother that was Baldur, the weakling of the family. A lightning sounded as he slapped his brother on the back rendering most of the mortal clientelle deafened for quite some time. "Suspicious, heh? Its good to see that you've learnt something, Shorty!" Baldur hated that nickname but he wasn't that sensative that he would show his weakness to the lightning god. "You do seem to play more pranks these days, Fatty!" The three men laughed at the joke that started nearly a century. Being immortal does offer some keen advantages. "So, what brings yer here, friend?" Barrendd asked as grins mischieviously at his other friend. "I'm looking for me missus. She seems to have gone missing in my hour of need." He batted his eyelids playfully at his buddy just before going back to normal. "It has been nearly a month..." "You're nearly five hundred years old and you worry about the kindest of women being going for a month out of two hundred years of marriage. You really must be bored." "Baldur, you always were a bit jealous of my woman!" Thor teased. Thor had always enjoyed messing with his brother over his lack of any number of wives that he could have knocked up by now. All of Thor's children were fully grown but then again, most deities bear children that are aduly mature at birth. "You know that I don't go for that old man. I am a man seeking love from my beloved..." Thor interjected, "But you are just too much of a 'man' to tell her... B'ah! You always were a bit daft. Tell her. Get it out of your system and then you can get her out of your system." That was Thor's answer to everything. Brutal honestly didn't win you friends but at least let people know how you stood.
