You must have a very open-minded priest... who is obviously going against the Vatican by teaching you this. Going against the Vatican isn't necessarily a bad thing, but... well... the lack of basis for this argument is astounding. If your priest actually told you this, I worry for your church.
There are Scriptural arguments against homophobic rhetoric, many of which are acceptable even within the structure of Catholic creed, but this is not one of them.
As for Leviticus: Leviticus 18:22 states that laying with a man as with a woman is
toe'bah, which is an abomination of the spirit. Failing to repent from it, according to Leviticus 20:13, is punishable by death. Mosaic Law is
not the place you want to go for pro-homosexual argumentation, unless you bring historical context into the picture (and most fundamentalists won't accept that, since they believe the Bible is literal and all parts of it are eternally viable).
