“You want me to take one of the brats GD stuck you with?!” Jessi stared at Catzi from where she sat across from her in the kitchen, rather flabbergasted. She had to be kidding. As much as she knew Catzi loved the children she had, Jessi was not exactly a children kind of person. She hated kids.
"Jessi love, I've got too many of these little she-shits running about! It's driving me nuts because there are just too many, ya know? All I'm asking is that you take care of just one. I've got a couple of quiet ones I'm sure you'll just love, but I really need this. Please." Catzi waved her arms around as she spoke, and the sounds of little girls running around and screaming could be heard even through the thick door that separated the two from the chaos that was the rest of the house. It was a temporary reprieve at best, as Catzi would soon have to go out there again to manage the horde that was currently residing in her home.
Rubbing at her temples, Jessi sighed. She just knew a little kid would make a mess of her art studio. But, Catzi was her friend… And it’s not like she’d ever asked her for much else. And gods, her patience with Jessi’s more irritating tendencies was really exceptional.
“Okay, okay, fine. I’ll take one. But only the one! And I get to choose.” She winced as she spoke. This was not going to be fun.
“Yes!” Catzi throwing her fist in the air and quickly standing. “And choose whichever one you want; the important thing is that you take one of these chica's off my hands.” Walking towards the back door and opening it, she motioned Jessi towards the main hallway where girls ran around wildly, a screaming and crying and biting mass of little bodies. She scared aghast at the chaos in front of her, terrible images in her mind of what even just one of these little brats would do to her nice, cozy condo. Looking about desperately, her eyes latched onto the first little girl she saw that looked to be staying in one place. Giving her a quick appraisal -- thank god, a calm one! -- she walked towards her. Small, obviously, with short curly red hair and rather pale skin. The little girl looked up at her, and Jessi winced. Okay, she was creepy as hell with those pale green eyes staring up at her unblinking, but at least she was quiet.
“Looks like you’re coming with me, kiddo,” she said to the child and reached out a hand. The girl just stared at her, eyes focused with that creepy intensity on her face. Jessi’s hand dropped slowly. “So, I guess, um… Follow me?” She started to walk away from the chaos, checking behind her occasionally to make sure the girl was still following her. One leading, one trailing behind with eyes watching, they walked out the front door.

The ride home was silent. Jessi couldn’t think of a thing to say, and the girl seemed disinclined to talk. She had yet to say a word, and Jessi was starting to wonder is she even could. She led the child into the condo, turning on the lights as she went through the house explaining. “That’s my room. You can’t go in there. And that’s the kitchen. You, uh, can’t go in there either. That’s my studio, and if you go in there realize there will be consequences.”
Jessi paused, feeling awkward. “That’s the bathroom and this is the living room, and you’re more than welcome to use either whenever you’d like. Obviously. Just… Don’t destroy anything. And this…” she walked towards what was currently the storage room and opened the door. “…is going to be your bedroom.” The room was filled with boxes perched precariously on one another, with a broken jukebox in one corner and a dead houseplant in the other. A fine layer of dust covered it all, and the girl sneezed.
“Quite obviously, we’re going to have to redecorate,” Jessi drawled, looking at the girl who was rubbing at her nose angrily.
“Meantime, you’re going to have to sleep on the couch.” Jessi looked at the girl, expecting a response, and was treated with more silence. After a short pause she shrugged and headed for the linen closet. Snagging a clean shirt from the laundry as she went, she got out blankets and a pillow and set up the couch for the girl to sleep on. The girl slowly walked over to where Jessi was standing, and they stood and stared at one another.
“Well, goodnight then, kiddo,” Jessi said, handing her the shirt. As she reached out and took it, those pale eyes flashed. “My name is Nimue,” she snapped. Jessi quirked an eyebrow. “She speaks! Fine, then. Nimue it is.” Jessi left the girl standing there, shirt in hand, and went to her bedroom. Before shutting the door, she poked her head out and said, "Hey, try not to pee in your sleep! I just got those couches."
Jessi heard the thunk of something hitting the door.

Nimue sat outside the condo and glared at her surroundings. Go outside and play, my a**. More like get out of her hair. God, that woman irritated her. Her nose scrunched up. It wasn’t that she was a horrible person or anything -- she was just aggravating beyond all reason. Always implying that she really couldn’t take care of herself, treating her like she was four years old…God, Nimue knew she was young still. That’s the only reason she was sticking around. But she didn’t have to treat her like she was a baby!
The red-head peered around her. She’d already done the playground thing. But no one was there ‘cause everyone was at school, and that woman hadn’t enrolled her in it yet. She’d explored the area and was bored of that. Climbed a couple of trees and ate crabapples. She’d been outside for what felt like forever and really really wanted something to drink.
Standing abruptly, she headed inside. This was stupid. She’d been out there for long enough, and she was coming inside whether that woman liked it or not. Slowly, she pushed open the front door and looked around the room. Yuck! What was that smell?
Oh, the woman was painting again. Figures. She went and stood in the doorway of the room. Hunh. Why the hell would she be painting people? Just take a picture. God. “Hey! I’m done being outside. I was out there for forever so I did what you asked.”
Jessilynn looked up, startled, and looked at the clock. “What? You were only out there for an hour and a half! That’s hardly forever.” She stood up and came over to where Nimue was standing . “But that was apparently long enough.” She poked the girl’s nose and got another scowl in return. That seemed to be developing into her favorite expression. “Your nose is burnt. Come on, I’ll get you some aloe vera for that after you eat your lunch.” She walked out the room, Nimue trailing reluctantly behind.

"Nimue? Where the hell are you?" Jessilynn cursed. The little brat was out at all night -- again! -- and the only indication Jessilynn was getting these days that she was even home was whether or not those bloody boots were splatting mud all over the furniture. She'd tried with the girl, she really had, but she was turning into a hellion of epic proportions and she just wasn't prepared to deal with it.
Doing a quick walkthrough of the house, she spotted a light on in the bathroom. Walking over, she started yelling. "You can't just be out of the house all hours and expect to not get into trouble! What am I going to do with...Oh." She stopped, looking at the girl who was cleaning blood off her legs. "Did you hurt yourself?"
Nimue scowled, and blew her hair out of her eyes. "No. I just started bleeding."
Jessilynn softened. It looked like she was going to have to give the girl a talk. It was a very confusing stage in a young girl's life, and she was bound to be confused and need to be reassured and--
"Damn. I guess that means I'm going to have to use birth control now."
