Well, according to the poll, clarinet wins - 90% to 10%.

Frustrated Jack315 i think any instrument can be used to play jazz really? yeah i think clariney jazz does sound cool, flutes can sound cool in it too I'm having a hard time envisioning banjos and bagpipes, but maybe...just maybe. Both have been done. Johnny St. Cyr and Rufus Harley.

Anyone who says clarinets are not for jazz clearly hasnt heard Benny Goodman. Anyone who says clarinets are not for jazz and HAS heard Benny Goodman should... have something creative and painful done to them with clarinets...

There's some people in our band that wrote and arranged some cool stuff that makes us double on clarinet. I'd love to have a song where i solo on clarinet since my director had a gleam in his eye when he heard me warm up on myt clarinet.

Banjo keeps popping up as an unusual jazz instrument.
And I would like to add that the banjo was used for years before they ever considered using a guitar.. Because of the blues roots, I guess. So we don't see it much NOW, but before, banjo was huge.
I have to concurr on the bagpipes, though.
