In a nestled corner of Barton, a face peered out through the glass of an old coffee shop. Set right on the edge, the small shop would barely be visible to the naked eye, rather it was set back for those more refined customers: those who would willingly search for their own personal delicacy delights, rather than have them crawl to the consumer with their garish signs. In this late hour, it was a surprise it was still open, one could even go as far as to wonder why it was open- after all, it was scarce apart from the child at the window and the teenager cleaning mugs behind the counter.

Deep hazelnut eyes watched the few passer-bys, steaming up the glass with each warm breath he set onto the glass. His wings flickered upon his head, suddenly finding himself completely bored with the aspect of people watching, and thus turned to the more interesting prospect of watching his Author.

"Just a few more hours, and then we're all done - promise," Placing the mug back down onto the wooden counter, Taley pushed the small grating aside, stepping into the main store full of it's many comfy chairs and wrought iron tables. Her puppy like tail swished behind her, fur covered fingers flattening her apron against her skirts as she made her way over, ducking down beside the small boy.

Fai's face, rather dismayed by the prospect of no company, completely dropped. His wings even drooped at either side of his head, mottled feathers flailing back against his brown leather goggles. The two and a half year old certainly wasn't very impressed. Leaning forwards, one chubby fist landed before the other, crawling over towards his mother with amazing ease considering his age.
"Come here then," Pulling the child up from his position on the floor, Taley gently dragged the Tale up and onto one shoulder. She'd become accustomed by now to be wary of his thorn covered arm, and even took the extra precaution of shifting him over onto her left shoulder. It was easier that way - fur didn't get easily caught up within the thorns trailing up Fai's arm.

Far happier to be in Taley's grasp, Fai gurgled happily, bringing both arms up to reach for those white ears. If only he could reach, biting his lip in frustration, his chubby fingers flailed in the air in vain. He wasn't about to reach, especially so as Taley started sliding along the floor back towards the counter. Ah well, he'd get to find out why they twitched someday.

Having become slowly used to the night time hours that Khalindra liked to keep, Aiden was being dragged by a very energetic girl who looked maybe three or four years old, down the streets of Barton. They had been all over trying to find something open so late, but nothing that had been open caught the star princess's eye.

It was HER night with daddy. Emi was at a baby sitter's and that meant she had her author all to herself. Of course, this pleased the golden haired girl immensely.

"Come ON daddy!" her little voice could be heard, demanding, excited. She saw lights and lights meant something was open.

"Khalindra, give me a moment to catch my breath, huh?"

The little girl would hear nothing of it as she continued to drag, with some difficulty, the med student towards the coffee shop.

"HURRRY!!!!" she gave a little bounce as they reached the door and attempted to reach for the handle. Still a bit too short, she pouted and waited until Aiden pushed the door open before racing inside, "I SMELL GOOD STUFFS!"

Aiden, wincing, looked around the establishment for an owner. Coffee. He could use some of that about now.

People. Taley's set of white ears flicked, grey eyes turning towards the door: a little girl and her father by the looks of things. Smile, just smile. Pulling a smile, the furry girl bounced the little boy on her shoulder, her cheeks burning a soft shade of pink. Usually the shop was empty, her shift was the easiest: they barely got any customers in at this time of night. Perfect, the one night they do and she wasn't even ready.

"Evening," With a smile pressed onto her furry face, Taley leant down to slip the little boy back onto the ground. With some difficulty, she prized Fai from her shoulder, the lad coming face to face with the edge of Taley's paws once more. Now, just apologize and get the man what he wanted.
"What would you two like at this late hour?" She questioned, her fingers finding themselves caught up in the edge of her apron when not holding the lad so close against her chest.

Fai could have whimpered if it hadn't been for the young girl that followed. The two and a half year olds face almost lit up, someone to play with while his Mum was busy! Just to wait for them to order. Pulling his hands up, he latched onto his author's ankle, his non-thorn-covered arm tugging himself up and onto his rump. From there, his hazel eyes watched the rather excited little girl, wings flickering lightly against his head.

Now, would she play, or would she not play? Would it be best to ask now, or later? Opening his mouth like a fish, Fai spoke his first word for the night, deciding on the latter: it wouldn't hurt to ask. His language was obviously not quite as toned as hers, and it held a soft, but rather distinct, edge of a slight accent.
"Hello?" He asked, not quite as loudly as she had, slurring up part of the word. He kept it quiet, not wanting to really disturb the girl if she didn't quite want to go anywhere near him. Pausing, his arm reached up towards his goggles, chubby toddler fingers brushing across the edge of the leather strap for re-assurance. His goggles seemed almost like a comfort blanket for the young tale.

Aiden smiled pleasantly at the woman, "I apologize for my daughter in advance, and if she breaks anything, I'll pay for it. For now, I'd like a nice cup of black coffee...." he paused, "And if you have a sedative, I swear, I'll slip it in her water or juice."

Khalindra stopped her bouncing and looked up at her father, wide-eyed. He would do no such thing! Harumphing, the golden hair was blown upwards as she flounced to where she heard the voice. Yes, company!

She liked playing, after all, with anyone other than her sister, "Hi!" she responded, flopping herself rather dramatically onto the floor. It appeared that, unlike most princesses, the star child was not afraid to get dirty.

"Hello!" she exclaimed, silver eyes glittering, "I'm Khali! Who're you?"

"Oh, don't worry about it." Returning the pleasant smile with one just as pleasant as her own, Taley found herself pawing back behind the counter. Leaning down, she plucked a rather large mug from beneath the counter, pulling both that and it's saucer onto the clean tabletop. How could something so sweet make so much hassle for the man?

"I'm sure Fai will keep her busy anyway," The furry commented, scooping a scoop of brown coffee powder into a coffee plunger, tapping the hot water machine on. A second later, the plunger found itself sitting beside the mug under a paper sheet, complete with a (what appeared to be) posh version of a digestive biscuit.

So she would talk to him? Fai's hazel eyes followed his author as she found herself disappearing behind the counter, now what? One hand fled before the other, the composer crawling over towards the princess on all fours - seemingly standing up was still a little shaky, and he preferred crawling for the time being.

Making his way in front of her, he promptly parked back down onto his rump, soft mottled wings flapping gently against his head. This time, however, his hand didn't find itself wrapped around the leather goggled perched upon his head.
"Khali," He rolled it over his tongue, pointing one thorn covered arm back at himself - now to introduce himself. Smiling happily, the young musician introduced himself, not quite as nicely as the princess had, but he tried to be gentlemanly about the matter.

"Fai, I'm Fai," He spoke. It didn't quite come out how'd he'd fully hope, but it would do. It was an introduction. He went on for a moment longer, pausing.
"I came from a scary book," Fai repeated, something he'd gotten from his Author no doubt.

"I don't think anyone can keep Khalindra busy for long," Aiden remarked as he watched the woman make the coffee. Just the smell of it was beginning to perk the tired med student up, "She's a night owl. I'm in Med School. Do the math," he said, leaning tiredly against the nearest thing he could find.

"Fai! Nice to meet you!" she answered, a beaming smile on her face as she wiggled about to get comfortable, "I came from a book too, but it wasn't scary. Not to me! My author was a little nervous though..."

She giggled at the memory of it, her blonde curls bouncing slightly with every movement the girl seemed to make. Did she EVER stop moving? Chances were not high that she did, considering the tiredness of her author. She would wear out, eventually. Most likely when the sun was starting to come up.

Try as he might, Aiden just couldn't get Khalindra into a normal routine.

((I'm so sorry this took so long, I've been caught up in a few things as of late.))

"Ouch," Taley consoled, pushing the small china tray of plunger, mug and biscuit towards the student. Her purple tipped ear flickered, almost cringing as Fai recalled one fact she'd hoped he'd forgotten. It'd been a few weeks now that she'd held the boy in her charge, and looking back onto it: the book incident could have been far far worse than it was.

Astute white ears flicked, his little girl was from a book too? She glanced down from Fai, back to the man and then back down to Khali. Now how to approach this topic. Busying herself with another mug and a tea towel, the younger waitress pulled back her smile.
"I know this may seem absurd, but, would Khalindra happen to be a Tale?" Taley seemed to etch around the subject, wiping the brown and white patched cloth over the etched china. Slowly, her large tail etched around to pin back against her legs, what if she wasn't a Tale? She'd remembered clearly that small robotic creature calling Fai and Tale, and she'd hoped to find another for so long. Yet, now the situation was upon them, she found all her questions at a loss.

Fai was apparently a little more weary than Khali. Even a few nights none-stop of this routine could take quite a bit out of you. Fai had only just started to lapse into the daily life of not returning home until half past two - then returning only to rise a few hours later.

What to talk about, what to talk about? Deep hazel eyes glanced over to the spot he found himself situated in just a moment before, mottled gray wings flapping against his head. It appeared Fai had almost lived in this corner all day, with his large throw blanket, his scratched up whistle, an old stuffed rabbit and aha - that was what he was looking for. Some kind lady had dropped off what appeared to be a large picture book, with a brightly coloured musical note on the front. He'd been wanting to look at it all day with Taley- but she'd been rather busy.

In truth, it was one of those books that when you pressed certain buttons they made certain sounds. Fai adored it.
"Please come?" He questioned, minding his pleases. In one steady sweep, the toddler was up onto his feet, offering a hand out to Khali. Maybe she would like to be escorted?
