Okay, here's some things I have amassed about bands who, at competitions, are really school spirited. Think of a competition where (for awards ceremony) it's not a full band retreat, but you have the parents on one side and all the bands sitting in their schools in the back of the field.

AT A COMPETITION, HAVE YOU EVER:

Alone or with a friend:

biggrin Waved at a member of another band

biggrin Struck up another conversation with a stranger drum major

biggrin Randomly walk up and hugged a member of another band and left without a word

biggrin Delivered fan mail to someone from another band (say, for continuing to march a show after breaking their ankle redface )

biggrin Randomly walked up and hugged the director of a band you just saw without explaining who you are

biggrin Created the equivalent of a yearbook for that competition and asked everyone you see to sign it

biggrin Hugged the representative of the host school or university

With the band:

mrgreen Started doing school cheers

mrgreen Had everyone sing their parts for the school fight song

mrgreen Sung everybody's parts for football game songs

mrgreen Done the wave along with the rest of the band

mrgreen Started the wave from one side of the bands to the other

mrgreen Gone crowd-surfing on the bleachers on your band

`Who knows if they're in a band? I wave at everybody!

Struck up a conversation with a stranger drum major?
`Yup. yup...

Randomly walk up and hugged a member of another band and left without a word?
`YUP!

Delivered fan mail to a member of another band?
`YAY! Of course...How could I help myself? He breaks his ankle on a crappy muddy field within the first 30 seconds of his show, hauls butt out of the way and continues to stand and play the rest of the show. Chad, whereever you are, (never met you), I love you. Honestly.

Randomly walked up and hugged the director of a band you just saw without explaining who you are?
Actually, no...Not yet, anyways... ninja

Created the equivalent of a yearbook for that competition and asked everyone you see to sign it?
Next year...next year...*shakes fist* pirate

Hugged the representative of the host school or university?
Bloody stupid security... mrgreen

Started doing school cheers?
Totally. Lots of sugar was involved, and that made many of us the equivalent of drunk, but it worked... mrgreen

Had everyone sing their parts for the school fight song?
Everyone we could get to, at least... mad

Sung everybody's parts for football game songs?
Again, those we could talk into it. (the sugar started wearing off) xp

Done the wave along with the rest of the band?
Absolutely. Absolutely!

Started the wave from one side of the bands to the other?
Oh yeah. It was fun to get up and run, and it was so late that everyone was hyper and lots of people in each band did it. whee

Gone crowd-surfing on the bleachers on your band?
Oh, I WISH! Someone from another school did it, though. It looked awesome...until he fell to the floor. rofl It was pretty sweet. mrgreen

You would totally know, Sonhou... I've done everything you have and nothing else. I've hugged all those people with you!

You know, two people hugging someone randomly and then going off laughing would probably actually somehow be more unnerving than just one random freak... mrgreen

My band played at a Buffalo Bills' game, and we got the wave to go around the entire stadium-- twice! 300 people can do that to ya...

Oh I forgot! We get on trouble on bus rides for singing the Alma Mater really loud a lot. (We sing the alma mater at our football game pregmae shows)

I have done a few of those. But I've got somethin' better. At one competition we went to last year, they were callin' county names for awards. Well....We're Camden County and there was one that sounded just like that when the guy spoke over the mic [I can't remember the school now]. When he got to that school we all thought he said 'Camden' so we were all cheerin' and freakin' out when it wasn't us, and then we remember that they also went by class [A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA]. We're 5A and that other school was 3 or 4A. Funny a** thing.
