"I doubt you'll lose your thumbs," Sophie said, playing with the new texture on his hands...it never ceased to fascinate her..."I mean, the other Islanders haven't, not even the hooved ones. I'm sure you'll be fine." She then let go, lifting a hand in comparison. "And just for the note, I don't think kangaroos really have fingers. They have paws." She looked to her backside with a painful grimace. "And really, really long tails."

Well, she definitely wasn't looking forward to growing this kind of tail out.

"Yeah, but all the one's I've met have had cloven hooves. Horses just have one solid toe. I dunno how it's going to work." He shook his head sadly. "Ah well, I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there."

Glancing down at her tail, he winced. That was going to be hard on her.

Shifting over, he stood up, still holding her hand. "How're you feeling? Think you're up to a couple steps?"

"Bridge? I see no bridge. Any bridges and we'd all be off this forsaken Island."

She laughed, then took one hand, using the other to push herself up off the bed. True, the feet didn't hurt for the moment, but would she be able to walk with them?

At first, she shuffled a step forward, then managed to step away from Gaius, all on her own. True, it was slow, and it was done in concentration, but it was walking.

"Hey, I figured it would be as bad as walking with flippers on. It's not awful."

She mimed some of the other Islanders by getting on the tips of her toes, testing her balance in a digitrade stance. "Well, at least I can still walk."

Gaius grinned, applauding her progress. "Hurray! Now you just have to learn how to run on those things! Or maybe how to hop," he teased.

A yawn escaped him before he could hold it back. The late hour and adrenaline of the evening were catching up with him. He shrugged apologetically and sank back into the chair, covering another yawn with his odd hand. "Sorry about that. Can't seem to control it... I'm -yaaawn- feeling kinda run-down."

"I'll work on it, just for you, horseface," she retorted in response, a teasing tone in her voice as well. She shook her head, then sat back down, concentrating with each step to get back to her bed.

"Y'know, if it's late, you can go back to your duplex...I mean, I don't mind if you stay the night here, it's just that, well, your stuff is back in your room, and some people have issues with sleeping in places that are different." She tilted her head, smiling meekly. "But I'm glad you were here, though. I mean, I don't think I would've believed this, and then gone to breakfast in the morning and have someone tell me it's real. At least I got the news broken right away."

She scooted closer, starting to feel tired as well. Not to mention a tad hungry and the desire to forage, but she managed to ignore it for the most part. "Who needs being normal, anyway?" She asked, leaning against him with a smile. True, that wasn't the way she really felt about her fur, but if Gaius really liked it, then perhaps she could get over her own personal thoughts on the subject.

"Horseface?" he retorted, scrunching up his nose. "Fine way to treat a friend, Ms. Dino-Bunny!" A broad grin broke across his face and he caught her in the ribs for a playful tickle.

"I'm glad you were there for me too. I think... it's easier, going through it with someone else. I think it helped keep me sane." He blushed as she scooted closer, looking down at where their hands interlocked. "Normal's overrated anyways..." It was only a half-hearted statement. Somehow, he seemed much easier to deal with someone else's changes than to deal with his own. He still couldn't look in the mirror without wondering what had happened to his nose.

"Ah, don't worry about me. If you want me to stay and keep you company, I can sleep on the couch or something. I'm used to sleeping in the strangest places," he added with a chuckle. Glancing up at her face, he felt his heart lurch suddenly. He lowered his eyes again as his blush deepened. "I-I just want you to be okay."

That had been it: Sophie was intensely ticklish, and she cried out in surprise and giggles as his hooves prodded her. She then sighed in contentment, leaning her head into his chest as she closed her eyes. "Wherever you want to stay is fine with me: there's a spare blanket in the closet, though, if you need it."

Standing up a tad shakily, she managed to walk herself around to the other side of the bed, unfolding the covers to her bed and slipping into it. She barely had the time to say, "'Night," before her breathing slowed, and she slipped into unconsciousness. It was the one good thing about narcolepsy: she could go to sleep easier than anyone else.

Gaius laughed, pleased to get such a response out of her, and nodded to her offer. "Thanks Sophie. I should be fine."

He moved over to the couch, sitting down as she got into bed. "Night, sleep well!" For a while he sat, her loyal guard dog-horse, watching her sleep - there was something soothing about it, but he couldn't tell what. Finally, he kicked up his hooves over the armrest of the couch and rested his head on one of his arms.

Soon, there was nothing but the sound of light breathing in the duplex as both of them slept.
