I just wanted to see exactly how many people here are actually into phanfics. I know as a rule I generally don't read them, although I've written one or two. This is just a quick consensus for future reference and it gives me a clearer idea of what kind of phanfic contests would and would not work, if any.
For the poll pick the option best suited to yourself, even if it's not a perfect fit.
A better breakdown of the options:
I read and write it lots -- This just means you write a fair bit (more than one or two; or a long fic) and hunt down phanfics for the purpose of reading them rather than reading them as they come.
I read and write it on occasion -- This means you sometimes write and read it but don't do it very often and don't usually go out of your way to read it.
I read it often and maybe write a little -- If you like to read it but haven't written much or anything at all.
I write it often and maybe read a little -- If you like to write it and do it fairly often but don't really bother to read it or don't read it at all.
I don't do either -- Pretty much self-explanatory.
-----
I'd appreciate anyone who posts and lets me know how often they write and read it with more detail than just a poll answer. Keep in mind that this is a bit different than the "What do you think of phanfics?" thread in that I'm asking moreso about your habits and less about your opinions. However, I'd still like to hear the "why" of your answers as well. More questions I'd like to know the answer to are:
Do you just write when you feel like it or can you take requests? Do you write long or short fics? Do you like to read long fics or just drabbles(really short stories)? How much time do you spend reading and writing phanfics? Why?
And anything else that seems remotely relevant.

Do you just write when you feel like it or can you take requests? I write when I feel like it, and it's hard to be tied to some elses idea and requests, because you can't always make it the way they want it.
Do you write long or short fics? I wouldn't know everything ends in the recyling, but probably middle not to long or short. And I can't stand writing something to long because I usually run out of ideas or something short because that means everything is limited.
Do you like to read long fics or just drabbles(really short stories)? I like reading longer phics, but if someone can get their point in a short phic than I'll be impressed. And I read any phics especially people who are new to it because they need a chance and feedback, or people who more experienced. Really I go for the ones that are different or highly unuasal. But I prefer reading something longer, because it get more into the story and better detail on characters and development.
How much time do you spend reading and writing phanfics? Why? I spend alot of my time reading them and writing them, it's fun for me and enjoyable to see some elses idea slowly comming to life. And writing them is fun, and good pratice and experience. Though reading them also gives you ideas and you learn a bit from reading them, not just about the characters, but the writer/author themselves. And why I do it because I have nothing else to read, and it's nice to actually get the chance to talk to the author and ask them to explain something if you didn't fully understand it. And I've red all the books all my books and find none of today in stores worth buying or reading really, since there usually a rip of another or not well done, or made into a movie.
I hope this was a good answer besides my vote on the pole which was I read it often and maybe write a little.

Asueway, that answer was exactly what I was looking for, thanks so much. I just have to say I agree with you on today's books, although I do usually find something worth buying.
I personally prefer short fics, but that's my attention span probably. I can't sit at the computer and read something that takes more than an hour to read. I also write shorter fics because I find making a real plot is difficult for me and I just want to get across the feeling of a moment rather than a detailed story.
It's interesting that you like long fics, probably because it's something I'm not good with.

Your welcome ninja heart .Well the phanphics I read it is on poto.com and you get one chapter at a time, so you have to be patient. Also within one hour I've red at least up to six different phics at different stages of the stories. And the other thing is I barely go to a library, because no ride and two only a smal span of time for me to read it all. But fiction and fantasy is what cetches my intress, or tragedy, sometimes mystery...but I find in these days it's not about the dead it's more about the livings relationships and I usually have to skip a whole chapter because it's not for all readers.
But I prefer the classics, of horrors...I just find them I don't know just more intressing and sad and nice to read something with full thought, and detail and a good plot. But heck I have to give it to some of the writers phics I read, my gosh how many have I red that says first phic and it's high rank work (including yours which I hope you'll update soon).Actually the longest phic I've red has stretched to about a year...I'm still reading now, it's never seems to have an end. But the one thing I like about any fanfiction it is once in a while that you find someone orginal, creative and has a wide variety of hobbies and experiences that they use to help them write. Still over all I just like escaping from reality, and trying to take a glimpse of what someone else see's, a different ending or new begining or a new story.

*yawn* Performing thread necromancy because I'm bored...
Do you just write when you feel like it or can you take requests? I can do both, but I'm a lot more likely to actually finish a story if it's on request or on a deadline. If I'm just writing for myself I tend never to finish anything. Do you write long or short fics? I've done both, but I like writing moderately short phics better. 1-5 chapters is easiest, because it gives you room for the details without the plot turning into a monsterous thing. Do you like to read long fics or just drabbles(really short stories)? I'd love to read some longer PotO phics, but they all tend to be urple romance sagas. How much time do you spend reading and writing phanfics? I never read phic anymore unless it's by an author I know. I try and poke out at least few paragraphs of phic every week, but work and writer's block get in the way. Why? I haven't read anything really seriously since the movie came out and it became impossible to navigate through all the Mary Sues and boring, repetitive E/C. It was always hard to find PotO phic that wasn't romance, but now it's downright impossible. I've also found it more difficult to write if I haven't read anything good to inspire me, so that sucks.

Other than in-progress SpectralFantasy, I haven't really done any phan/fanfics.

Do you just write when you feel like it or can you take requests?I write when I feel like it; there's no creative flow unless I have my own ideas. Do you write long or short fics? Both. I've done several oneshots, but I'm also currently sitting with a few longer fics on my computer. Do you like to read long fics or just drabbles(really short stories)? I like longer ones, as long as the author updates soon enough, and drabbles have to be well-written to amuse me. ^^ How much time do you spend reading and writing phanfics? I spend some of my time reading/writing phanfics. Why? I hate the overflow of movie fics because most of them are poorly written, incorrect and, quite frankly, stupid. I write them whenever I get a decent idea in my head.
