I have a lot of trouble reading music, mostly because I am self taught from books and DVDs, if anyone knows a way to help me memorize the notes, please do....

I taught myself as well and I just got used to it. After a few months of learning songs in tab form, I just compared the notes to the tabs I knew. It's like comparing maps! It just clicks after a while. Trust me, anyway it's easier than using a bloody delay pedal! That took me ages to get my head round!

You're perfectly welcome. Most musicians are my friends.....but some are just bastards in artist's clothing!

Black Jack Booted Demon I have a lot of trouble reading music, mostly because I am self taught from books and DVDs, if anyone knows a way to help me memorize the notes, please do.... Is memorization your only problem?.. well.. if you've got the understanding of the more complicated things like time signatures (4/4, 3/4, 2/4, 6/8, etc) done and a good concept on the variations of the different types of notes (whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, etc) then all I can recommend is that you use repetition (at least that's the way I learned). Constantly going over and over and over the material and reminding yourself what is what. Its a bit tedious, but it does get the material implanted into your head after awhile. I personally wasn't self-taught, but have helped people who have gone that route before and most are fairly decent players now, so I would say repetition would be one of the best ways to go. smile
