If you post in this thread, please refrain from using your signature. As I'll assume everyone has read the Terms of Service. It's basically a set of guidelines as a few of the things that they say not to do, you can and generally do see on a regular basis.
Either way, the rules of this Guild are as follows:- No content that is PG-13 or higher. However, just like it says in the Terms of Service, "Exceptions to this rule are made on a case-by-case basis to allow for artistic creativity and freedom of speech." So, tasteful nudity in picture posts, etc. I would say is allowed. Nothing gratuitous.
- Roleplay threads, while not restricted should be made in moderation. Also, please keep the Thread title concise, let it express the fact that it is a roleplay thread as well as give the briefest description possible without making it sound ambiguous,
in the title/subject.- Inquiries of a personal nature (seme seeking uke, uke seeking seme, fan seeking fan, dog seeking cat, etc.) should be kept to the
The Seme Dating Service sticky.
- Opinions may be aired, this does not mean that we have to pay attention to them or have them expressed belligerently. Please remain civil, even when expressing your dislike for things. This is a Private Guild for a reason.
- This is a
Seme Guild. We are here to enjoy being or enjoying semes (as with fans and ukes involved). The topics may run the gamut from:
politics
philosophy
games/anime/manga
art & literature
weather
what type of uke you prefer
what kind of seme you are
tricks of the trade
There is no restriction except that threads are not repeated. There aren't many now, but there will eventually be, and then it would be good to keep an eye on present and past discussions.
Obviously we would not be in this Guild if we didn't know what these terms are, but, for anyone who might be a bit iffy about the definitions of terms, common ones are as follows:
Bara - 'Rose' a term used at one point to describe homosexual men, namely referring to them as "The Rose Clan/Gang" (Bara-zoku).
Bi- - 'Beautiful or Pretty' Added to terms to describe them as beautiful. Bishounen (Beautiful/Pretty boy), Biseinen (Beautiful/Pretty young man), Bishoujo (Beautiful/Pretty girl), Bijin (Beautiful/Pretty lady)
Canon - Basically legitimate story. The story and intention made for the characters by the original author. ex. Kurama is not gay, Shuichi on the other hand, is.
Citrus/Lime - Normally dealing with heterosexual relationships or Ren-ai, this is a lighter version of Lemon. Closer to Shounen/shoujo-ai, whereas Lemon is closer to Yaoi/yuri.
Fanon - Also known as Artistic liberty. Basically you take whoever you want and throw them into whatever situation no matter how inane or improbable through canon. Gays turn straight, straights turn gay, semes go uke, ukes go seme, people they love become people they hate, etc. ex. SesshoumaruxInuyasha, SakuraxTomoyo, ShuichixYuki.
Lemon - Also usually applied to ren-ai, this is basically telling you that the situation involved is going to eventually lead up to sex.
Loli - Also known as Lolicon. Pictures or stories pertaining to (usually sexual) relationships of young girls with other young girls, young boys, or adults.
New Term exclaim Neko - Literally meaning "Cat." This is the Japanese term for a 'femme' lesbian in a girlxgirl relationship. Examples are Anthy, Michiru, and so on. This could be considered the lesbian version of a 'uke'.
PWP - 'Plot? What plot?' Basically the term used when a story is about nothing, quite literally, except sex. There's either a water soluble plot or absolutely none at all. La Blue Girl is a perfect example of the water soluble variety.
Ren-ai - 'Romance love', widely accepted as between a man and a woman.
Seinen - 'Young man', generally the term used to describe youths who have met or are past the age when one would gain facial hair. This is still a young man, past puberty.
Seme - From the Japanese 'semeru' or 'to attack'. Usually the one who takes the lead in a relationship between two men. This will be due normally to assertiveness, sexual experience, etc. Stereotypical descriptions of a Seme would be: older, taller, dark, colder, more composed, and so on. He is either the recipient of unwanted advances by a genki or aggressive uke, or the aggressor to a shy or otherwise very unavailable uke.
(If you don't know this term, who are you and how did you get here? lol)
Shoujo-ai - 'Girl Love' Love between two girls. Generally a term used to classify a genre of manga/anime/etc. possessing a romantic plot based around two girls.
Shounen - 'Boy' A young man before the age of puberty normally.
Shounen-ai - 'Boy Love' Love between two boys. Generally a term used to classify a genre of manga/anime/etc. possessing a romantic plot based around two boys.
Shouta/Shota - Also known as Shotacon. Pictures or stories pertaining to (usually sexual) relationships of young boys with other young boys, young girls, or adults.
Slash - The western equivalent of Yaoi, except that Yaoi did not previously pertain to 'slashing' straight characters. Slash normally pertains to actual people or characters being put into sexual situations, whether it's the boys from Queer as Folk, or Harry and Draco.
New Term exclaim Tachi - Literally meaning "Standing" or it could also be derived from Tachiyaku, "or the player of male roles in the Kabuki Theater, who is thought to embody strength, power and masculinity." This is the Japanese term for a 'butch' lesbian in a girlxgirl relationship. Examples are Utena, Haruka, and so on.
Uke - From the Japanese 'ukeru' or 'to recieve'.Usually the one who takes the following role in a relationship between two men. This will be due normally to passiveness, sexual inexperience, etc. Stereotypical descriptions of an Uke would be: younger, smaller, light, more open/shy, genki, and so on. He is either the recipient of unwanted advances by an aggressive or sadistic seme, or the aggressor (by that normally meaning overt sexual innuendo or just overall annoyance) to a cold or otherwise very unavailable seme.
(If you don't know this term, who are you and how did you get here? lol)
Yaoi - An acronym for 'Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi', 'No peak/climax, no point, no meaning'. This is stories about two men who have sex, a canon example of this would be Boku no Sexual Harrassment, Level C or Fujimiya Orchestra (though there's not much to it)
Another, though incorrect and amusing, defintion of the acronym is 'Yamete kudasai, oshiri ga itai yo', 'Stop please my a**/butt hurts.'
Yuri - 'Lily' This could be derived from two places. One would be where in 1970's Japan homosexuals were referred to as the Rose and Lily Clans/Gangs (Bara-zoku and Yuri-zoku), Bara being Rose (Bara is now used for 'real' japanese homosexual manga involving men). The second possibility is that Yuri was one of the first couples of this nature to be written about. Kei and Yuri, the original Dirty Pair.
Now, for a few terms that aren't as prevailent on the internet:
Bi-do - 'The Beautiful Way' Another term for Nanshoku.
Doseiaisha - 'Same-sex-loving Person' More than likely the only term used in present day Japan in regards to homosexuals, outside of the obvious 'Gei' (Gay).
Kagema - Male prostitutes who worked for tea houses. The term is also used for Onnagata.
Nanshoku - 'Male Passion' Viewed in times past in Japan as the purest form of love.
Onnagata - 'Female form' Young male Kabuki actors who exemplified and were paragons of 'womanhood', both theatrically and socially. They also moonlighted as prostitutes.
Tobiko - Travelling Onnagata who also moonlighted as prostitutes.
Described once as:
womanish youths who called at rich widowers' estates or made the rounds of poor sections where country samurai lived. They might peddle other dainty goods besides perfume, but...their trade was a screen to hide their true identities from the unknowing. They followed a set pattern of conduct and a line of talk easily recognizable to men acquainted with their secrets: men who felt no attractions in real women.
Wakashudo/shudo - 'The way of the Youth'
A couple quotes involving Japanese homosexuality.
"A young man should test an older man for at least five years, and if he is assured of that person's intentions, then he too should request the relationship. If the younger man can devote himself and get into the situation for five or six years then it will not be unsuitable."
-Hagakure, 'Hidden by Leaves' by Yamamoto Tsunemoto
A Samurai manual, historically it was the younger man's duty to court the older man.
'I cannot believe that you
Are far away
For I can
Never forget you
And thus your face
Is always before me.'
- Ise Monogatari, 'The tale of Isle'.
Bamboo clappers strike the hateful number A Japanese short story.
And for an amusing quote, "In general, courtesans are a pleasure once in bed; with boys, the pleasure begins on the way there."
